Syracuse is a dead city. NO and I mean NO good jobs left. I lived just north of this mall and watched 1000s and 1000s of good paying jobs leave the area. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to understand why Syracuse and the surrounding areas are SH#T HOLES. GLAD TO BE LIVING IN SWF for the last 15 years. Should have left Syracuse area 35 years ago. My best advice is get put while you can.!!!!
Fayetteville Mall and Shoppingtown mall were under the same ownership, in the 90s Wilmorite wanted Fayetteville Mall to be a discount mall, with anchors cohoes, Burlington Coat factory, Tj maxx, caldor, Sears was never filled when they moved to shopping town, mall started going down hill in 96 when caldor closed.
Addis Deys wing was open in 1990, Caldor open in Fayetteville Mall Penn Can Mall, Fairmount Fair Opened in 1994 and closed 1996.
Nice video man!
Mall closed around 2000-2001 Town center of Fayetteville open up in 2002. Mall also had Burlington coat factory Tj maxx back side of the mall after Addis Deys closed it became a Cohoes then stickly, I have the mall map of the mid 90s
@@user-dp3xc2ut3s thank you for the info!
That’s awesome that you have the map!!!
Awesome video Steve! Sorry I missed the premiere, I got the time mixed up.
Does anyone remember the weird globe sculpture that changed colors that was in the center of Long Ridge in the 80’s/90’s it would’ve been at 21:15 where the guy is pushing the stroller, and I’m pretty sure that Metro store on the left was an Orange Julius at some point
I was there back in March ‘94 when the connected mall opened , if you were a teen it was the place to be in the 90’s, as someone else mentioned Rochester is a great a place to grow up, but so many people move elsewhere for better weather/jobs
😎💗
I remember when Great Northern opened. I was working at JW/Jeans West at Fayetteville Mall. It was a gorgeous mall. Not many malls left today. Amazon and Walmart killing the brick n mortar stores. Also had friend that worked at The Galleries JW downtown. Glass and Neon everywhere 😊
how’d you get in??
This used to be a pretty nice mall even a few years ago… good for when you didn’t wanna make a whole day out to go to Destiny. My local mall is still kicking around, but idk how much longer it will.
went there with my kids when they were younger they loved it . i miss mall's it was way different growing up in the 80's and 90's i remember going to penn-can mall i also went to shopping town mall best of times . walking with friends just having fun .
Music too loud to hear you
Time for an updated video!
I was at great northern opening weekend and I was there the final weekend. Took my kids to the arcade all.the time. Steve had been there forever.. very grateful he was part of my childhood and my children's as well.
Grew up driving by that place all the time
I use to go there, I lived on Morgan rd in Liverpool
Great Video Steve!
Nice to see something in the decaying orbit of McKinley Mall!
Nice
If you think this is bad, you should see Shopping Town or, any part of Syracuse. It's going to hell in a bucket. Unless your looking for a sanctuary city
I didn't know that I needed to see dramatic shots of my childhood mall with Heart playing over it, but I did.
its abanded 😢
Amazing Video
Nice work Steve
I worked there from 2021 to the closing. It is now going to become a Dick’s Sporting Goods.
0:15 this song is literally stuck in my head 😅 by the way, what’s the song title at the start?
Amazing Video Steve!! I wish they still kept the old teal paint and brick floors. That’s the reason I didn’t even bother uploading my take on this mall I filmed 2 years ago. Anyways, amazing work and camera shots!!
I used to ride in the back seat of my cousin's old stick shift Mercedes to get free ice cream from her high school boyfriend at Friendly's. Damn
DuBois used to be my halfway travel; stop when going to Colossalcon or Ohayocon. Last time I was there was...2018 weirdly enough. Bought a bunch of CDs at the former FYE and a few things from the former Gamestop. it still looks similar to then.
I grew up 20 mins from this mall. I was an early 90's mall kid at this place. Seeing what malls in general have become, I'm so glad Sangertown is still hanging on. But a lot of what I loved in this place is gone. The Hoyt Cinemas, the original Arcade, Friendly's, Pizza Hut (the good era), McDonald's, the two neighboring Chinese food court stores, Kay Bee Toy Store, JC Penny's, Bradlee's, Sears, The Disney Store, The GAP and a few others. The main tenants that still remain from the late 90's are Auntie Anne's, Spencer's gifts, Victoria's Secret, American Eagle, Foot Locker and Sicilian Delight Pizza (the oldest remaining tenant in this mall to date) Everything else is either newer or left over from the first real major turnover I remember personally in storefront tenancy. Things like Target, Hanoush Jewelers (used to be a Kay Jewelers) the coffee place (used to be Taco Bell), Dick's Sporting Goods and Yankee Candle were all 2000's additions. Thanks for the virtual walkthrough of what was a great place to be a kid in the 90's. If I ever get back home in CNY, I'm stopping by just for the nostalgia of it.
I went back to visit. Buffalo chicken pizza from Sicilian Delight 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@FloridaManRacer I’m still mad that they took the arcade out, I remember going there every Saturday as a kid in the early 00’s. When they put DSW in they got rid if it, probably like 2012/2013. Like you said I’m glad it’s still around but it’s nothing like it used to be. When I went there with my parents as a kid and by myself as a teen and you’d always run into someone you knew, it was inevitable.
@@vb7200 I was a big fan of racing games as a kid and I remember that ferrari racing game they had at that arcade with 3 screens... I looked one up to see what it'd cost to buy for my man cave. $8,000 is a bit steep lol.
@@FloridaManRacer those vintage cabinets go for big bucks, I always wanted a Galaga one but they're thousands. One of my friends always went there to play Daytona USA I believe, it used a card I'm pretty sure to allow you to save your progress.
How have I never seen a big lots in a mall
Great video man! Looks like a nice and cozy mall. I hope it holds on in the long term.
Great video and Keep em Rolling!
Went to that mall all the time 1998-2013
Good Video!
I believe the entrance you walked into at the beginning of this video was actually the entrance into the restaurant! I was very young at that time, but I remember that the entrance was in the back, even if that particular entrance wasn’t the one you entered into.
So many great memories there! The only reason to drive through the minefield we call a parking lot is. Ollie's and Two Cousins Pizza! One of very few places you can get something fresh and not cold to eat! I miss the theatre so much! But with the ridiculous rent, and horrible roof! They ran them out! One of the few places there was to go around here! It's nothing but depressing.
Very nice work steve
Looks identical to the location in the Mall at Millenia
@thefloridianman that is because both locations were constructed by Macys themselves rather than being built by a MAY company division
Please stop with the back wing crap.
The Mconnells are the reaon this mall died ,not jcpennys
Whats funny is just over ten years ago the mall was full. Abandoned by the community, what did you expect. Shop online and use your mall as a return center. Of course it closed.
Good stuff - thanks for posting it!
Hi and great video and take care
Awesome find! Pizza Hut are closing these sit down restaurants in favor of the express shops. I prefer the sit down Pizza Hut
Great video
As a teenager living in Grove City in the 80's Hermitage was such a great place to visit on Friday nights after school or Saturday mornings. There was the Shenango Valley Mall, Hills, and next door to Hills, Rainbow Comics.
OH YEA
