In 1986 the Norwegian ketch Svanhild crossed the earth's greatest geographical stretch - the Pacific Ocean.
Twenty-six years later the children of Svanhild re-visits the Pacific's islands. Following in his father's footsteps, Erlend Kjeldsberg Hovland will command the new vessel - Blue Marble across the temperate waters of the Pacific Ocean. Throughout 2013 he will maneuver a ship crewed by nine happy sail-amateurs, from the Caribbean to Australia via Galapagos, Easter Island, Pitcairn, French-Polynesia, the Solomon Islands and numerous islands in between. It will be a journey in the historical wake of their parents.

Shipwrecked on The Rock (Niue)
มุมมอง 14K11 ปีที่แล้ว
The adventure onboard the Blue Marble came to a sudden end when our beloved boat had an unpleasant encounter with the reef on Nuie. Right now we do not know what will happen next. We are being taken care off by very friendly locals. We are all living in the same house for the time being. Some of us might try to hitchhike as crew on passing yahcts westward.

Lost in translation, in very French Polynesia

Getting fuel for the Blue Marble turned out to be tricky in more than one way. Not only did we have to pull up longside to a freight ship and siphon the fuel from barrels there was also a language barrier to overcome.
17th of May (Norways national day) celebration in Rikitea, Gambier Islands
มุมมอง 2.3K11 ปีที่แล้ว
The Blue Marble spent a couple of days in the Gambier Islands before it was time for the obligatory 17th of May celebration (national day of Norway). We started the day by changing our battered flag we got in the Bristish Virgin Island from the fellow Norwegians abord Lupi. Rømmegrøt and a parade through Rikitea soon followed. We would like to thank all the local kids for making this day someth...
