Short ride. Top gear pull to triple digits.
มุมมอง 8521 วันที่ผ่านมา
Part of a short ride on the highway. Top gear, no tuck pull to triple digits. I tapped the external mic wire to the helmet to cut down on the tapping/clicking noise. Still there a little bit. More tape for next time. And maybe next time I'll run through the gears to get there quicker. :-)
Neighborhood ride to check out Christmas lights

A ride around the neighborhood to check out Christmas lights and to see how well the GoPro worked at night. I didn't use any night settings. I'll have to try again sometime.

Tips for leaving from a stop, and smoother shifting
มุมมอง 509หลายเดือนก่อน
I'd encourage anyone interested in riding a motorcycle to get some proper training. MSF course is ideal. Friends, family, maybe this video might be helpful. Practice makes perfect. Hopefully you can do this in a nearby parking lot, or if the road in front of your house doesn't have much traffic. You want to get comfortable leaving from a stop before mixing it up with traffic. Most people aren't...
Be nice to new riders
มุมมอง 120หลายเดือนก่อน
So I watched a bunch of TH-cam videos where people are commenting on laughing at new riders stalling a bike from a stop. We need to cut them a little slack. Unless you've taken a class or maybe had a friend or family member who was able to explain how to operate a motorcycle, the hand and foot coordination isn't intuitive for most people. And in reality, most friends and family members aren't v...
Cruising around, talking about my motorcycle history.

Great weather this morning in Gilbert AZ. Cruising around some neighborhoods while I talk about my motorcycle history. 1st bike was a Kawasaki Ninja 250 that I bought in 1990. Great little bike to learn how to ride without getting overwhelmed with the power and weight of a bigger cc bike. 2nd bike was a 1995 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R. 1st generation of that model. Big step up from the 250. But unlik...

Chill ride to Tortilla Flat AZ and back
มุมมอง 652 หลายเดือนก่อน
A quick little ride to Tortilla Flat. A fun ride on some twisty canyon roads. Very pretty and scenic area.
Hungry hungry joeys❤
2 weeks of riding and I still can’t wrap my head around rev matching when downshifting lol it’s crazy how effortless it looks to other people. Getting better at launching at least.
You give a blip of throttle before letting out the clutch. Ignore the numbers, it's just as example: When you go down from 3rd (6000rpm) to 2nd, the bike might jump to 8000 rpm who knows by you giving a small amount (blip) of throttle you are now already at higher RPMS so they're like "aligned" The worse of a rev match job you did, the more engine braking you will probably encounter I think So if you see down shifts are going smoother with less force pushing you back (engine brake?) ur getting better
And the lower the gear the bigger that blip might be I'm not sure. It's possible gear 1 needs way more blip than 5
@@kevlarcs8910 yeah. Blipping to downshift is one of the trickier parts of riding. How much throttle you need depends on several factors--speed, gear, and rpm. Keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it. Something that you could try is to find a road that you can maintain a certain speed, and practice up shifting and down shifting while maintaining that speed. Hopefully it works for several gears, and you can go from 4th to 5th to 6th and back down.
i thought it had a light sensor in the dash for day night mode?
@@WhippyWhip2 It has a sensor to brighten or darken the display in either setting. The sensor itself won't change the display setting.
@ChristopherNinja500SE ok thanks,
I just ordered 500 SE in red. Your review is helpful.
@@victorkaplansky congrats. It is a great "little" bike. It'll be difficult, but I usually recommend following the manufacturer's break in instructions. 4k rpm for the 1st part of break in is the hardest part. 6k for the 2nd part isn't too bad since you can ride at highway speeds in most places--about 65 mph in 6th gear.
Ninja 500 ABS ? We have the same bike and color brother!
@@redfox1278 thanks and congrats. The 500 is a great "little" bike. Hopefully you are enjoying it as much as I am.
Thank youfor this video, recently got a 2024 ninja 500 and I'm at 360 miles and gonna bump mine up a bit. I wish the dealership would of told me this. They basically just wanted to sell me the bike nothing more 😂
@@clever805 congrats on the bike. Yeah. Some dealerships are more helpful than others. The place that I bought the bike from gave me some information, but certainly didn't go through all of the features.
@ChristopherNinja500SE it actually didn't work for me. Didn't realize this only works for the SE version. I have the 2024 500 abs all black. Is there a way to turn up the engine speed on this model?
@clever805 I'm not familiar with how to adjust the shift light on the standard display. Sorry. Check your owner's manual. Adjusted or not, the engine will still rev to 11k or so. Hopefully you figure it out.
@ChristopherNinja500SE alright thanks for the reply. Ride safe bro. My manual only shows for the SE version to change limiter
@@clever805 thanks. Ride safe. Maybe the next time you are at the dealership someone there can show you.
I always find it so weird when people say "yeah not a big engine" and be riding a 500cc like nothing when in my country there are mostly 125cc to 200cc as most sold. Then yeah I think it must be cool to have that a basic.
@@originalpollution thanks for the reply. Yeah I guess here in the US and some other countries a "500" cc engine is considered small. I find it fun and more than capable of doing anything that I need to do. It is quicker than most cars if you rev it out. And with a top speed over 120 mph it is plenty fast. I like how light and nimble it is, and 60 mpg is a nice bonus as well.
Wouldn’t even be able to reach legal speeds on half the roads I ride on with a 200.
Cheers Arizona. Mesa AZ here! Ya should cruise toward Tortilla Flats some time. Nice ride/lunch.
Tortilla Flat is one of my favorite rides. It has been a while since I’ve stopped for lunch there though…. I have a video going there. Started it just past the traffic circle in Apache Junction.
this showed up at the top of my front page you going places soon trust 🙏
@@oisdfypoijsdfgh Thanks for commenting. Hopefully this is helpful for you or a friend. Feel free to ask questions.
1 of the errands that my friend Randy Rarrang loves running on his motorcycle is to Fator’s. He loves Fator’s just like me and my family.
I'll have to google Fator's. I've never heard of it.
It’s in Redding California
My friend Randy Rarrang rides a 2006 KTM Supermoto 950 motorcycle & he absolutely loves it. He lives in Cottonwood California.
That's a cool bike that he has. And California is certainly a great place to ride.
This looks like a nice road with great scenery. I know action cameras never seem to capture the true scale of a scene. Arizona is definitely some place I would like to ride at some point. I’ve been there a handful of times, but I’ve never ridden a bike there. I like that you mention the road conditions and where one can expect more road debris. I always appreciate that kind of information if I’m considering riding on a new route. The standard aspect ratio for TH-cam is 16:9. If you’re using a GoPro you can change your lens setting to either “wide” or “superview” to capture a greater area. I typically use “superview”. Also, if you’re using a GoPro be sure whichever mic you get has a TRS connector and I highly recommend using a “dead cat” on the mic to help cut down on wind noise. A chin curtain for your helmet is also helpful for reducing wind hitting the mic. I hope at least some of that information is helpful. Unfortunately my knowledge is limited to my experience with GoPro cameras.
Thanks for the reply. It is a very nice road. I try to ride it 2 or 3 times a month when the weather is nice. Hopefully you can ride it or drive it the next time you are in the Phoenix area. I got a microphone, but I haven't had a chance to try it. Hopefully it works well. And I tried the 16:9 setting on the GoPro, but the way I have the camera installed on my helmet It didn't show much above the windshield. I have a short video showing it installed on my Shoei. It is pretty tight to the chin and I can't rotate it back any farther. I actually like the 8:9 setting the I've been using. Have a good one.
Nice I was wonder why 1st gear was kinda slow
Cool. You’re riding in my neighborhood! I use that station all the time. Nice bike, I’ll have to look for your other video on this ride. 😎
Thanks. The ride to Tortilla Flat is a nice scenic video. I probably should have edited out the beginning, started it when the road gets really twisty.
I don't like the design of the sliders. They could catch on a vine riding up a driveway or narrow walkway/dirt road or even a loose rope, or touch a car when lane splitting.
@@caveyful I don't mind them. They might be a bit over stylized. But they do match the edginess of the bikes overall design. I hadn't really thought about them snagging on anything. That could definitely be a problem. There are probably aftermarket options. Thanks for the comment.
Where are the triple digits? 😊
@@NMAfreak Maybe next time. 🏍
Nice video. I have the z500 SE and I love it just hit 1700 miles
Awesome. Ride safe.

@@DaddyFromTn I love the 40th anniversary paint scheme. It is a bit too much for me. Congrats and enjoy the bike.
Have a like and a new subscriber, because this video quickly and easily answered the question I searched youtube for, "Ninja 500 invert display". The owner's manual isn't always clear.
Glad I could help!
I set my shift indicator at 10250 and it's worked well, after break in of course.
@@RobertMorgan that seems like a good number. Gives you a little over rev. My bike is stock, so I settled on 9500. Most of the dyno runs that I've seen for the 500 have peak power around 9200 to 9700. So 950p it is. 😁 lol
Good knowing when I hopefully get my own next spring. :)
@@HepauDK yeah. Hopefully next Spring. It is a fun bike. 🏍
Hi. Do you remember what your engine speed was when you got it. I think mine is to high because the shift lamp doesn’t go off. Thank you.
When I 1st picked it up at the dealership the shift light was set for 4000 rpm.
@@ChristopherNinja500SE thx man I had to set mine they had it at 10250 I know something was wrong.
@@Curt_TheCrossIsTheWay no problem. That 4k recommended rpm for the 1st 150ish miles is challenging since it limits you to about 44/45 mph. After that Kawasaki recommends a 6k rpm limit for the next 100 miles. That slightly higher limit opens up a lot more use ability. I’ve had my 1st 600 mile service, so I can now rev it however I want. It was difficult, but I tried to break it in according to the manual since I plan to keep this bike for a long time.
@@ChristopherNinja500SE thank you. I don’t know if it reaches 45. I can get to 6th and I will look next time.
@@Curt_TheCrossIsTheWay the bike will not blow up if you go over 4k revs, just don't go red lining it and you'll be fine
What are the functions of "bluetooth connectivity"? I don't quite understand what it is for, does it show google maps on the screen or what can be done?
It doesn’t appear to do much while riding. Like you I had hoped that it would allow navigation on the tft screen, but it doesn’t. So it is a bit disappointing. All it seems to do while riding is light up an icon on the screen if you get a call, text, and/or email. So not very useful. Off the bike, after the ride there are a couple of semi useful features. You can review certain aspects of your ride. And it will alert you to upcoming maintenance and other service issues. So mildly useful. The app gets less than 2* in the google store, and the reviews are not good. It doesn’t seem well thought out.
The metrics it tries to capture, with random accuracy and completeness, are nice, speed, gear position, temperature, but they're none of the info I'd WANT, like lean angle, corner entry speed, g forces, fuel maps or anything 'cool' like that, and all that info you get from the dash display anyway. I'd like it to capture, via bluetooth and the factory app, all the OBDII data available and displayed/uploadable for inspection. Take note Kawasaki, my LAWNMOWER has it's own app that does all that, and it's a 2018 model...
Gotta love your first supercar!
