Cal Salmon, Rowing the Butler Run @ 4.5 ft.
มุมมอง 864ปีที่แล้ว
Took full advantage of the break in the weather and got out on the Butler run with some friends and fellow guides. It was nice to having enough water to solo row my bigger raft. What a fun level, 4.5 ft. / 2600 cfs.

Got out for a little R1 practice on some class II/III in my backyard. Beautiful day for it but a bit windy, which made for good practice. See you on the river.

Swinging Flies With Micro Skagit For Winter Run Steelhead
มุมมอง 5K6 ปีที่แล้ว
I was able to get a few minutes on the river while the little one was napping in the car. Trying out my new micro-skagit setup was a success! I was able to swing up a nice little chromer on a soft hackle steelhead fly. 7'6" 4wt. fiberglass and OPST 150gr Commando head w/OPST 5' sink tip.

Thanks for watching, and please like/ subscribe if you would like to see more videos like this.

Hitting up a couple of the local creeks to escape the smoke this past summer. Got some great dry fly action. Using the the top 5 or so sections of a Tenkara Rod Co. Teton with 6ft of Tenkara USA level line and 3ft of Rio 7x tippet. This is my first video and I'm going to try and post content every week. Let me know what you think, this youtube thing is all new to me, Please like and subscribe! T...
Nice video 👍
Nice, haven’t had a chance to hit that run yet.
it's a great class 2+ reek run.
@ is there a harder section above where you put in?
This is awesome! My favorite creek ! Whered you start?
Slippery view river access.
Sweet run! I proposed to my wife halfway down it in 2004.
Its a good one, and local for us, so we try to get on it at least once a year. A great one for a proposal.
hee haw!
4:24 best cliff jump ❤
That’s a big ol R2; love wing; love calsalm
Nice vid, I’d rather hear the river.
Yabba-dabba-doo!
Billy Strings tho...
Great video! May I ask what sink tip did you use on the video?
10 ft t-8
I need to get a spey rod! You can cover so much water!
It changed my game completely.
It's interesting to me that "steelhead" means different things in different places. Some states differentiate in regard to size, others by location, other still by whether or not the fish has been to the ocean.
A steelhead is just a rainbow trout that goes to the ocean. Size doesn't matter.
@@ericthefishman I agree. But I hear about Mid West steelhead coming out of the great lakes. I also am told that any rainbow over 20 inches is legally a Steelhead here in Oregon, even above reservoirs. It should be simple, but it's complicated.
Take the gloves off it’s terrible for the fish
What reel are you using if i may ask
Its an old Heddon 310
Where is this at?
I don't see the big deal about sharing information lol like if it's a public spot and private property than its not a secret spot lol
It might not be "secret", but you don't know where it is and i won't tell you. The last thing i want, is to show up at spots that i like to fish alone (and i usually do), only to find a bunch of youtube spot poachers. These places are public, but i had to find them myself. Do your own work.
@@ericthefishman Google earth bro 🤷
@@briantalbot7929 Have fun with that, bro. Most google earth images don't show you much if any up to date detail like bear/deer trails and often have images of the river in unfavorable or blown out conditions. Rivers are dynamic and spots change all the time.
@@ericthefishman Right on.
Why no talking? You could at least explain your set up or technique
Loved video Peace and quiet
Such an awesome run!!! Stoked to see a small raft run this one!!! Great vid & music. One day I’ll get an R2 to paddle my Sabertooth on the Cal-Salmon (Butler n Nordy!!)
Just wondering what rod/line you are using?
11' 5wt switch rod, cheap chinese switch line.
Hm, that spot looks familiar, can I get coordinates/directions?
If its familiar why do u need directions
Confirmation, fool
@@CptJYossarian Sure buddy, Go fish for spots elsewhere or better yet put your own time in. Even if you were being honest nobody is gonna blow up the specific run by revealing it on the internet, so you can ''confirm'' its location.
@@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj Look, I fish to fill the freezer, I'm not spending more time out there than I have to. Maybe if you had a real job and a family you'd understand
CptJYossarian just get a net then
Cool vid! I enjoyed that! What are the fish?? Chrome bright, steelhead jacks? "half-pounders"? The almost look like kokanee, but that's impossible. Non-anadromous rainbows? How far from the ocean is this?
Thanks! the fish are anadromous rainbows "1/2 pounders", 60 miles from the ocean.
Nice!
Thanks, i've learned a lot from your videos.
What state you in?
California
@@ericthefishman to be clear, that's NorCal right? Very familiar looking spot. In fact if I had to guess, pretty sure that's within the area some people call The State of Jefferson, am I right? Anyway nice little vid, and also great shots of that beautiful rod & reel lol
@@Taylor_in_Southern_Oregon the state of jefferson is a large area stretching from meford to just north of redding. But yeah, it looks like the upper sac, probably arouund dunsmiur
Sweet video
The Steelhead are big in Texas!
Nice! How are you rigging your eggs? Leader length, weight? egg pattern?
Hi Stephan. I'm using a 12' 0x tapered leader with 24"of 2x flouro, The egg pattern is my own, but basically, its a dumbell eye glow bug with a crinkle flash tail. No other weight.
@@ericthefishman Thanks! I'm not familiar with that pattern. Is it a yarn egg tied on dumbbell eyes?
@@stephencifka4629 Yep, thats pretty much it.
Nice... what rod is that?
Thanks. It's the top 5 or so sections of a tenkara rod co teton. The Grip is from a dollar store trowel.
@@ericthefishman thanks... i suspected it was kindda taylored rod.
I enjoyed the video. That looks like a beautiful area. And the drone footage at the start was cool 👍 We don't often see that perspective in tenkara vids.
