Have to sand and re-apply varnish almost every year. We don’t trailer far, so don’t usually strap down. I am hoping to make a trip a little farther this summer, we definitely be applying a strap then.

Watched TH-cam video from Sailrite, lots of broken needles later, turned out great.

That’s what we were thinking too.

One year when we were putting the boat away for the winter Jami stubbed her toe on the keel box inside the cabin. To her surprise the toe was completely sideways. Ouch. Definitely good advice to wear some shoes while on the boat.

We all learned a lot.

Hello Brent, we did not replace the pivot pin. We have a harbor slip that allows us to keep the keel down all summer. So we only lift the keel a couple times a year. Eventually we will have to replace.

Hello UD, It was resting on its keel in the sand. Could not get any closer without getting stuck.

@@SailingLandlocked hello can the catalina 22 dry out ive got mine in a club and wondered if it would dry out in mud on river ok it looks fairly flat bottomed keel just protrudes a bit?

@@jakedonnely4094I am no expert, but I would not want to let the boat rest completly on it's keel on the ground. The keel is only held in place by a brass pin. I would be concerned about damage to the pin or fiberglass keel housing.

No it is not the Apostle Islands. We hope to travel there one up coming summer. The footage is from Leech Lake in Northern MN.

This Irwin is in great shape. It sure was a joy to sail.

It was a great boat to learn to sail on. With the roller furling sail you can be out in variable wind conditions and maintain control.

I didn't watch to the very end and I see it looks like you used Total Boat Wet Edge. Looks fantastic! Thanks for the video. Happy sailing!

The Total Boat paint has been a good product. The only mistake we made was using it on the rudder. Nexus was in the water all summer, the rudder now has small blisters. Nothing a little sanding and some bottom paint can't fix.

Thanks for the comment. What type of keel does your Corribee have. Our Catalina has a swing keel. It make trailering so much easier.

Hello Web, We just put things back the way they were after the restoration. We have never been in another Cat 22 so couldn't tell you what is different about it.

I am restoring my 22 she is a 1976 model. Looking for more photos of your boat. Mine has never had handrails on her

@@SailingLandlocked when you pull the tiller over it tightens up the mainsail. It may well be genius. the tiller is adjusting the traveller which is adjusting the mainsail.

Hello Howard Bull, when we bought the boat the lifelines and stanchions had been removed. We decided to not replace them. We generally don't sail in rough weather so feel that it is safe. Our next "larger dream sailboat" will have them. You should check out the rest of our videos. I used to fly a Parrot Bebop. You would get a kick out of the footage. Thanks for the comment.

We reused the foam from our original cushions. It was in good shape yet. Covers were another story. Good luck with your project.

Hello Zarkon, We have black bears, wolves and occasional mountain lions. The biggest critter you will most likely see are squirrels.

Sailing Landlocked if that’s the case than can we bring guns or shotgun as protection agasint wild animals?

You can carry a firearm for your protection. I have lived in the area for many years, never any problems with wild animals. They are more afraid of you.

Hello Gregory, Glad to hear of your restoration project. We used Total Boat JD Select. www.totalboat.com/product/jd-select-ablative-antifouling-paint/. It has been a great paint for us. We used the teal color. So far so good with the virus. We both work in essential services but luckily in a rural area. Send some photos when you get on the water. Fair winds to you.

Hello Mike, Our 1983 Catalina has a total displacement of 2,490lb and carries 800lb in the swing keel. The swing keel has a steel cable which allows it to be raised and lowered quite easy. It works out well in allowing us to get into areas otherwise not accessible, not to mention trailering. We are still locked in ice. 20 degrees below zero last night. Can't wait for some warmer weather.

Hello Charl Randall, the item you are talking about keeps the tiller straight. You can adjust the tightness level depending on how much you want the tiller to move. Kind of acts like an auto pilot once you are sailing in the direction you want. Hope this helps.

i think they call them tiller tamer.just a line that can be tightened to hold the tiller where you want it

Hello Monte Whitefield, we bought a new old boat and will be conducting restoration on it over the upcoming winter. We are now empty nesters and needed a project to keep the two of us busy.
