don’t buy sage. it is endangered and it belongs exclusively in the hands of its original caretakers, certain Southwest tribes. they should decide what can be done with it, and they’re the ones who should profit when or if they do find it suitable to sell. definitely DON’T buy sage from “the health food store.” corporations shouldn’t profit off of things it straight-up appropriated from minority cultures without their consent or involvement. and certainly not ceremonial medicine!

she’s not actually Cherokee. even her own family says she’s a fraud. her message is nice, sure, but she has no right to pretend to speak for people who don’t actually claim her.

(@15:55 - Caterpillars) I am always checking the many white and red oaks on my yards here in south Alabama. The only time I notice any significant leaf damage or other signs of caterpillars is in the late summer or early autumn (around labor day) long after the birds have stopped nesting. Whitetail deer are a real pest to getting oaks established here too.

19:33 I'm sorry to say so, but this is a misquotation. What Thoreau did say was “The West of which I speak is but another name for the Wild; and what I have been preparing to say is, that in Wildness is the preservation of the world.” Sorry for the nitpick, I really liked this episode! I think it's useful to be able to talk about and be open to enchantment without (necessarily) having to submit to a religion. You can call it Nature, or Tao, or Gaia, or God. Whatever it is, I think we benefit greatly from being open to it and in contact with it. It's such an essential part of reality. And it does have a humbling effect on us, which I think our society desperately needs.

I don't think it's that strange . Is it rare, yes , but HONESTLY - HOW MANY OF US THINK OF RUNNING AWAY AT SOME TIME IN OUR LIVES . May it be for a breather or longer . THIS MAN MADE A DECISION AND FOLLOWED THROUGH . I think the Question should be , HOW DID HE ARRIVE AT THAT DECISION??? Was he unhappy and contemplating Suicide , but thought , let me try this first . Or was it , something that was in him for a long time , or was he running from pain , or ??????

What a great video, thank you for that! I've bushwhacked into there and the woods behind it over the years and wondered what some of those old machines were used for. Those historical photos are fantastic to put it all in perspective.
