    Mate about to buy a Rav, just sold my 2000 Nissan Pathfinder r50 I owned for 6 years, prior to that 2000 Mitsi Challenger. You just cannot beat mid-late 90's / early 2000's Jap made 4WD / SUV's in terms of solid build and fuss free engine maintenance. Stuck between a rock and a hard place at moment between a 2008 Rav 4 'SX6' V6 Auto (WOW the power is crazy!) or 2002 Rav Edge 4 cylinder Auto. Maybe buy BOTH ! I've found a Unicorn SX6 just today in which I am having a professional mech inspection prior to purchase ($12K AUD) and another Unicorn in the 2002 Edge about to look at tmrw for $7'500 K AUD. Think I'll get both and share one amongst the family as a spare runabout. Any thoughts ???

      Here’s the thing if you buy it chances are you’re not gonna lose any money on it and in the future it’s going to be worth the same. the value of these things don’t drop very much. And they’re super easy to work on. You just wanna make sure that they both have Good maintenance and they are running smooth so make sure you listen carefully for any unusual engine sounds or wheel bearing issues and making sure the transmission shifts smooth and not rough. Otherwise there are bulletproof! Every single Toyota that I’ve owned except for one which was a 1988 Toyota Camry were amazing vehicles and held its value. Most importantly is the condition of the car. A wise person once told me “don’t buy a problem” :)

    I'm looking to get a '22 or '23. Only major concern is the cylinder deactivation. They say that, over time, it causes the rear bank of cylinders to remain cooler than the front bank and over time, this can cause engine issues. Any thoughts on this?

    • @AutoGuyVideos
      @AutoGuyVideos 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Camping Randy does a SVCM deactivation product. It’s a pretty easy hook up. I guess it takes a few minutes from looking at the video. And that will prevent the deactivation. You can also deactivate the idle stopper which I have. But I also understand that the cylinder deactivation Affects more of the older model Hondas than it does the newer generations. Obviously with any truck you wanna make sure you’re good about oil changes the Honda Ridgeline does require a little more oil maintenance but the good thing is that they are all easy to do yourself if you’re Kind of handy. I’ll probably get a SVCM module to install and make a video on that later. In the future it will deactivate and keep the cylinders all running. For me I don’t worry too much because I drive a lot of freeway miles and I’m pretty good about all my oil changes

    • @Justin-hz8bh
      @Justin-hz8bh 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@AutoGuyVideos I'm very handy with my cars, so it shouldn't be an issue. Honestly, the gas mileage on your cluster reminded me of the cylinder deactivation. It seemed a bit low, so I wondered if you'd done it already. Anyway, I'll check out that guy's video. Thanks for the reply!

    • @AutoGuyVideos
      @AutoGuyVideos 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I would estimate about 10% less overall but still pretty good. I would probably get about 19 electric during the winter time and 25 in the summer. Is my best current estimate. In other words, I don’t think it’s dropped very much considering I’ve put on that many miles. I still feel confident that it will hold a pretty decent electric range. The ice engine gets at least 50 miles per gallon or more in the summertime but it does drop quite a bit in the winter time. Depending on where you live and the weather if you’re in a warmer climate, I would recommend it.

    Been a tacoma owner for decades and shopping for a new truck but absolutely against the 4 cylinder turbos that the new tacomas are coming out with. considering selling my prior gen tacoma for the ridgeline for another aspirated V6. Not a fan of the VCM though and not happy that the tailgate cannot be locked. I've always installed the roll-n-lock bed covers but it would not be secure with this one.

    • @AutoGuyVideos

      Yeah, I’m not for the four-cylinder turbos either. Nor a fan of the VCM. There are things you can buy to disable it. But the tailgates do lock now for the newer Ridgeline and I know the black additions they locked as well and the trail sport and the RTLE I believe all lock as well.

    Bought a 2019 Ridgeline Sport new and raised the front with 1.5 inch spacers for a little taller tires. I tow a 3600lb Geopro 19' RV trailer which is around 4000 or so lbs loaded. It does well but that also means I change the transmission oil (which had the latest software updates for the torq converter) and both differental and transfer case oil every 20,000 miles. I have 56,000 miles on it now and must stress the importance of regular maintanance, and take care of it myself thanks to posted videos help. I'm 62 and have owned alot of trucks and have to say that this Ridgeline is the best driving and is still smooth and very quite driving. Gas mileage is great and I still get surprized comments on the in bed trunk which I use all the time when traveling. So, No problem with the 6 speed with regular oil change. 50 years old. Had a 2001 Silverado 2500 for years. Downsized because I didn't need a truck that big. I do a lot of driving in the city, so having a smaller, more comfortable rig makes it so much better. Also, I love how it's the only mid-size or smaller that can fit a 4x8 sheet in the bed. I do woodworking, so that is a huge bonus. I also like the in-bed trunk. Saves me from having an exposed exterior toolbox (that was broken into multiple times on my Chevy).

      That’s great to hear that you’re enjoying your Ridgeline truck! And that it works so well for your needs! I like the fact that it’s the larger of the midsize almost close enough to a full size for the inside space. And you’re right for woodworking or remodels that require 4 x 8 it’s a perfect vehicle. I am glad I was able to load plywood and Sheetrock. Otherwise maybe I would’ve considered a Tacoma. Just like you, I have to drive everywhere in the city as well. I love full-size trucks but the compromise is great having a Ridgeline! And yes, it’s so nice to be able to store tools in the back of the truck safely!

    • @AutoGuyVideos
      @AutoGuyVideos 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, many people are saying the 2021 years and up with a 9 speed transmission, might be more reliable. There are a handful of people that are complaining about the 6 speed transmissions having problems. But if you’re going get a first GEN Honda Ridgeline, I would get one in the later years after they work out most of the kinks. so a 2010 to 2016 Ridgeline would be good and a 2021 and up with the newer transmission. The 2020 may also have a nine speed. It depends if you like the new facelift or not as well for 2021 and newer.

    I'm in my late 40s and have had a couple dozen cars over the years, currently on my 4th Jeep Wrangler which I absolutely love most of the time, but I've been REALLY tempted to jump to a Ridge for the combination of utility and comfort on-road, while still having some softroading capability. The Jeep is just squirrely and loud AF when bombing across the southwest where the crappy highways and high winds combine in the worst ways, making roadtrips far less enjoyable. I love the blue on the TS, wish the Black Edition could be had in that blue because it's got the extra features like ventilated seats that just put it over the top.

    23 RTL here. I work from home. I don't tow. I do work around the house, woodwork as a hobby, etc. I've had sheet goods , a full size refrigerator, etc. in the bed. Roomier on the inside than the other mid sized trucks. It's perfect for people like me who want a truck bed, but don't need a full size or HD truck. I laugh at the guys I know that have full sized trucks, but no bed liner with pristine paint in the bed.

    21' RTL here. 43 years old. In my past, I've owned a few mid and full sized trucks (Nissan Frontier, Ram 1500) and up until the RL, we had two older passenger cars. Got 2 teenagers, and wanted only one new vehicle that would make for double duty - people hauler and cargo hauler. This vehicle is comfortable for longer trips and has enough capability for me - payload is good and lets me carry a ton of shit from the hardware store. Bed with an extender is big enough for my kayaks and jon boat. Most I'll ever tow is a bass boat (one day!).

    I looked into one, and couldn't do it coming out of an F150 Lariat. Didn't tow enough to move my equipment. I need at least 7K lb tow rating. Frontier can do it. Same platform as a CRV as I recall. Seemed like a pocketbook on wheels.
