Seeking support when feeling down doesn’t mean we’ve failed. It’s our way of showing that we want to get better.

This woman is so beautiful. It's a shame she didn't marry someone who looks like her dad.

In 1930 my mother's mother had a complete mental breakdown and spent the rest of her life in a mental hospital. In 1969, when I was 19, I attempted suicide ,,, but I retched up the aspirins I took (100 of them!). I went to a hospital and told them what I'd done ... but they didn't believe me! They gave me no treatment! They did keep me overnight (because I kept insisting I had taken the pills). My mother spoke to the psychiatrist the following morning and told him about her mother. He sectioned me and I was transfered to a mental hospital ... because I had had a "schizophrenic delusion" that I had tried to kill myself! I was discharged after a month and had no further bouts of mental illness. I was not put on medication whilst I was in the hospital. The psychiatrist there was very good (he checked out my kidney function ... something the general hospital didn't bother to do) ... we had a laugh about what the psychiatrist who had sectioned me had said about me. Fast forward to 2010. I saw a GP about a lump on my neck I wanted checked out. He accessed my medical records on his computer. What appeared on his screen was: "Age 19 years. Sectioned. Suspected schizophrenia. No definite diagnosis". I'm now 79. If I end up in a care home they'll check what's in my medical records and, maybe? "react" to the word "schizophrenia". Hopefully my 1994 diagnosis of ASPERGER'S will overide the influence of this label that was "stuck on me" in 1969, The aspirins distorted my hearing and the skin all over my body felt like "plastic" ... I tried telling the hospital but they were so convinced that I was "delusional" that nobody took any notice. .
