Love sequences like that, it makes great action scenes. The Normandy campaign is great, I was drooling at the prospect of playing it but the price was steep at first, so I bided my time and got it when it was discounted from the IL2 Great Battles site. It's still pricey even now at almost £70, but the Mosquito was my driving factor, mad how I've only flown it half a dozen times though because it carries out mostly night missions in career mode. I hope you do pen a letter to 1C, they could use your knowledge to polish up some details, and there are some things that need addressing. I just edited a video in which a flight of bombers attacked a train depot and one of the trains s just a Russian copy from the Eastern front maps 😒cheers Jeff 👍🏼

That's a keen eye you've got, I'll be honest, I didn't even notice. I just had a quick search on them and found this description of the Type C.1 roundel - On dark surfaces except upper surfaces July 1942 - January 1945; upper wings and fuselage sides of all Second Tactical Air Force (2 TAF) bombers and photo-reconnaissance Spitfires, January 1945 to early 1947. Upper and lower wings and fuselage sides of 2 TAF fighters (e.g.: Hawker Tempest) January 1945 to early 1947. (Which just adds mystery to it, the Spit's I would say are definitely 2nd TAF aircraft ?) But then I just went and had a look at all my RAF models which span from BoB planes to D-Day and they all have the type B. So I'm inclined to agree. You should get on to 1C and ask them what their playing at 🤣 I have the Arado DLC collector plane but hardly ever fly it, I really need to reinstall PWCG soon so I can generate some interesting missions to record. Same with the Mosquito, whenever I think of creating some videos of it and start a career mode, the missions are always night time or dusk, which is useless for good video content. ​@@Halfakillladdie The 2nd Tactical Air Force was a ground attack RAF air force with Typhoon and Tempest squadrons. Your "DW" squadron is 610 squadron, an RAF Auxiliary Air Force squadron (County of Chester) that flew Spitfire Mk Is during the Battle of Britain and Mk XIVs in 1945. I think all the rich kids were in the Auxiliary Air Force. How's the polo pony doing?

@@JeffBecker805 Thanks for taking the time to gather all that info, I did a quick search myself afterward of 610 and it seems to fit with the locations and period in time, being that most of the missions are late 1944 with snow type wintery scenes. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a more correct skin for this squadron out there, well at least regarding the wing roundels. I'll have a look, just out of interest on the HSD tool. An interesting coincidence, I have a WW2 metal pin badge of the Auxiliary Air Force in my collection, found in a garden down the road from me whilst on a job. The pony got traded in for a Mustang 🤣🐴

Apparently they were still very much used during Normandy although I doubt the ones destroyed or wrecked were replaced with the same type, most likely the replacement would be the Tempest but I'm no expert. I think you're right with the 109 identification, I've deleted the screenshots of the mission info and that's the only way of me quickly checking. But I'd say it's a K and not a G model, the one we seem to come up against the most in this campaign. The 190s would have just kept going had not I gone after them, it's the scripting. I've got a video coming where 4 Spitfire's just flew line abreast as 109s ripped them to shreds, it's frustrating to see but I can't see the developers making any changes. I used to dread landing the Spitfire, but then I got the hang of it and it's probably now my favourite plane alongside the 109 to land, they both just feel ever so graceful. And yes, our base was in Belgium. On my previous channel I used to add all the maps and stats for the viewer, something I've purposely avoided this time round in the belief that most people don't care for detail, they just want action and explosions 🤣😂 cheers Jeff

@@Halfakillladdie @Halfakillladdie The 109Ks had retractable tail wheels (like the ones in your video) and did 452 MPH at 20Kft so faster than your Mk XIV. Big 30mm cannon too compared to your two 20 mm. I'd like to see maps, mission date, and stats but I'm more into history so maybe not typical of your viewers. Maybe you should take an audience poll. With snow on the ground, that makes it winter of 1944/45, and ships off the coast (I might be thinking of another video) might be near the Antwerp harbor(?). It would be nice to have more information to guess what the mission developer had in mind.

@@JeffBecker805 Your comment made me have a look at comparisons between the Spit Mk XIV and the Bf 109 K (even though reading charts and stats give me a headache), and found similar facts about the speed at least. The only query I have is in the game, things rarely take place at 20,000 + altitude, generally I engage aircraft between 5,000 - 12,000 ft and more often less than 3,000. So in the case of the Spit, I'd say it has the edge, or at least, going on what the "EXPERTS" say. As for the armament, the German planes are insanely well armed, my times flying the 109 and 190 with those cannons and the 109s under wing mounted cannons have been mind blowing, literally carving planes up by the score. I think my highest kill counts in one mission have been in the 109, if I didn't shoot down 10 planes, I felt dissatisfied 😂 I get what you say about the mission details, I used to add shots of everything described in the storyline, briefing, the route map, the debrief and results, so you'd probably have loved those videos, who knows, you may have come across one or two videos in the past. But with this channel I've gone for the different approach of just capturing aviation battles in a style that emulates a good war movie. There's scores of You Tubers doing the historical type videos, with accurate facts, figures and details. For me though, I like the mantra - No maps, no stats and no idle chit chat - just action 😝for the time being.

HaHa I was using the ammo sparingly cos I knew there was a target rich arena to play in. Love the Spitfire in this series, it's simply glorious to fly and fight in, in all 10 of these missions, I only came to grief once and it wasn't to an enemy plane, you'll see that in a future video. I scratch my head at times with the AI planes, I think they use some sort of "Cheat Engine" lol You'll notice I'm constantly dropping low to gain speed and pounce from behind because I just can't seem to keep up with some AI controlled planes in a flat chase. I've learnt to give those Ju 52 gunners a lot of respect, that's why I keep low and make hard turns downward if I come to high up and in their firing range, they will pepper you with holes. 2 planes I fear most, Ju 52s (cos you think this will be easy) and Pe 2s, that rear facing lower cannon is an absolute pain in the hands of an AI gunner. Yeah, no parachute, weird isn't it. I thought about cutting the scene, but I like to highlight some of the issues so that they may be seen and addressed, especially the issues with AI controlled Spitfire's engines cutting out simultaneously and falling from the sky, the devs are purposely I think not addressing something that's been an issue for a long time, because it's just AI planes. Shooting up trains is great fun but rarely do I get any real reward, well when it comes to shooting up the locomotive that is, I'll often get a wagon or two, but you're right, some of those fuel cars should have gone up in flames. 😄 cheers Jeff

It really is, one of my best buys I'd say on steam and although I'm not a fan of the DLC system, I've spent a fortune on this games DLC lol I fell in love with the IL 2 game back when I played IL 2 Sturmovik "Birds of Prey" on the X Box 360, still have the game and console and have considered trying to record some of that game through my PC, but it's not as straight forward as it sounds sadly. It took me a while to get the best out the .50 cals, I used to despise them, until I changed the calibration to 400 meters and then found them working great to down most fighters. They can still be a bit hit and miss sometimes, putting a lot of holes in planes but nothing critical, but on other occasions ratcheting up a stupid number of kills. I think the gunsight was an option in the loadout section, if I'm not mistaken, there was 3 options, but I'd have to check. You are a font of knowledge my friend, that's why I love your videos, you delve deep into the subject which is both educational and entertaining to boot. I'm certainly glad we did find a base in France though, those channel hops are long and dull and then if you come a cropper in France, the thought of doing it again is daunting. I've just recorded and edited the last mission for "His Majesty's Griffon's" and it's uploading to YT as I type, so I'll be back to recording some of these Mustang videos soon possibly. I've got the Lightning Strikes campaign nagging away in my head too, but I've never really done well with that campaign series or the P-38. So I'm cogitating on it. But there's so much choice with the game. Crazy thing is, I've done most of these campaigns before on my old channel, recorded them, edited them, uploaded them etc and now, I'm kind of mad at myself for getting rid of them. But I'm having fun redoing the videos for the most part. Cheers Jeff, glad you liked the tank action, one of my favourite aspects is capturing the ground battles to tie in with the air battles. I mean to do some "Road to Prokhorovka" videos too at some point, just have to master the tank controls a bit better so I don't look a mug haha 👍🏼I'm better with the planes in IL 2 than tanks 😂

@@Halfakillladdie You're the marksman but I wondered about aiming low when close in with the P-51 guns since the bullets are supposed to have an upward-arcing trajectory and I think the game simulates that. You seemed to be getting hits leading high though.

@@JeffBecker805 I'll test that theory out, might make a difference. I'll probably fly a mission or two with the Mustang later as the HMG campaign is done. I suppose the distance is a key factor too as the ideal would be to shoot at 400 meters if the guns are calibrated for that, so the convergence would be in effect. A lot of the time I get lucky, well with other plane types, a lot of my kills tend to be snapshots at close range and the movement of the enemy plane can make the shots less specifically targeted and the hits are sheer randomness. The only times I specifically target a spot is with say bombers or transports, when I try to take out wing mounted engines from astern. But astern shots are always pot luck with fighters, so I prefer deflection shots in a turn, but as we all know, IL 2 AI planes can be masters of the turn and you have to be somewhat patient, but once they get hit once or twice, they seem to know they're done for and seem easier to destroy.

Agreed, these post D-Day missions sure do throw up some cool planes like the Dora and the Me 262. In the next video I even got to record some cool Arado's as they went about their destructive business. It is surprising I got 4 and got away without a scratch, I can only put it down to flying with my head on a swivel and quite defensively to avoid anyone getting on my tail. And yes, the missions do select all the skins, but you can select a few options for your own plane in the loadout screen which are set designs, but you could also use customised. I had the HSD (Haluter's Skin Downloader) installed but since removed it, but with that the field was open for anything you liked that had been created. I'm thinking of reinstalling that and also PWCG (Pat Wilson's Campaign Generator) for some random missions for videos, so the download skins may come into play then.

Love the fact you got the title connection, you have to know, to know 😄Making videos is something that gets under your skin isn't it, it's partly the pleasure of sharing creations and partly the enjoyment of making them and seeing your hard work come alive on screen, I get as much joy watching the final product as much as anyone. It's a good idea about the plane IDs for sure, the reason I don't do it is twofold. As the videos spread across the globe I know not everyone would understand the English text, so I try now to keep the text minimal. And secondly, I find adding a lot of text increases the editing quite significantly and then there's the checking for typos adding additional time. The game does have it's peculiarities that are "meh," I'll avoid going down the path of criticising the many faults I/we see. Glad you enjoyed some of the visuals, I do try to make my videos flow like a movie and with as much action and detail as possible. The radio chatter is neat, I agree, but man alive, doing it made so much work and took so much time, matching scenes from a raw recording of the mission and the replay recordings, I simply wish the game creators would address this and incorporate the radio chatter into the replays, after all, in some campaigns like "Lightning Strikes," the radio chatter is incorporated into the replays. I can't see myself doing any similar videos with the chatter, it simply is a lot of extra work and my mind is looking forward all the time at the next video and the multitude of others that is rather daunting. And the stats for nerds observation of yours I can't really explain. Either it's a result of You Tube OR I may have changed the recording bit rate of Nvidia shadow play between videos, but I can't honestly remember when I did adjust that. Although I don't think this is anything to do with it as I just checked and it seems it's reverted back to 50 bit rates (possibly during a graphic card update.) I did raise it higher to 70 I'm sure, so I'm going to put that to the test. The video I'll be releasing later will have been recorded at 50, so I'll raise it for not the next video but the one after (as the next after tonight's is already in the can.) One other possibility is I may have recorded some whilst I had the game resolution higher ie 2560x1440 but then reverted back to 1920x1080, which I find runs the game better on my PC. I change my PCs native resolution to 1920x1080 whenever I run IL 2 usually, but Nvidia stays at 2160 (4K) And finally, Nerves of Steel ? Could be haha But I think it's most likely my telemetry settings for IL 2. I spent a lot of time researching how to get the best flight settings for the planes when I first started playing it and they have never been altered, I even keep my config settings safely backed up in a folder just in case the worst thing happens and the game resets them. I could take a screenshot of my telemetry setting the next time I'm in game and post it on the community page for you to compare. I dread having to set up my plane controls ever again lol I think that covers most of your points and I apologise again for any confusion and also this huge reply 😝 See you in the skies 👌🏼
