Do you rather set up fast and get to talking, or is messing around with the equipment part of the fun? What's your thought? 73,
What's with the 70s porn background music?
The meaning of life
Hey! I like stupid jokes and I like this built I’m gonna do it
I remember back in the 60’s and 70’s amateur radio builds were all about applying skill with good engineering practices. Today we don’t see that anymore. A person could instantly size up the capabilities of their soldering iron, just looking at an SO239 connector you would know that a 40 watt pencil iron just won’t work on that size of mass. This innate knowledge and experience is lost on today’s crowd. To crudely attempt a ground out would come the soldering gun, but that would only be done by the cb crowd. A Ham would solder the coax shield to a circle lug and fasten it the SO239 with a star or lock washer and a nut and bolt. Again, good engineering practices were the conscientious rule of the day. Shame we don’t see that level of skill and thoughtfulness in problem solving anymore…
@@tamistone2632 well thanks for watching and commenting, it helps Tue channel! 73,
nice
Good video, background music bed was annoying.
HOLY HECKFIRE!!! I may have built the boards for that old Tektronix TH 5006 depending on when it was built.
@@Plasmastorm73_n5evv WUT. That's awesome! I'll need to open it soon, as it seems to have a funky power supply. If you're good with it, and if I can't figure it out from the service manual, I may bug you for help!
@@hamradioexperience I would love to.
@@hamradioexperience Just as an FY! the TM5006 is a powered module bay capable of accepting several different components. It may be the power supply for the main bay is out or it could be one of the modules is causing the issue.
@@Plasmastorm73_n5evv it's the main bay, but a buddy and I also swapped the backup battery in the multimeter and since then it's displayed 6ARF + instead of a readout, so something obviously went wrong there...although his meter works 🤷♂️ I mainly just haven't had time to look at it.
Hey thanks for your video of this Michael Martens, KB9VBR design with your simplified improvements. I’m building your design today, I like the idea of the 1” pipe segments friction fitting the tape inside the cross and t connectors. I have something to add that helps this idea fit together straighter and smoother. I noticed the cross and t connector fittings have an internal smaller I.D. And the tape measure binds and kinks in the center of the fitting. I shaved down those high areas with a 1/2” x 1 foot long wood dowel and a 1” wide x 120 grit sanding belt section taped to the dowel longways. I held the dowel and moved the pvc connector back and forth to keep it all square and parallel. In couple minutes smoothed out the bore where the measuring tape makes contact. It now sits flush with no bends or kinks when fixing into place with the 1” pipe segments. Also soldering the wires to the cupped side of the tape measure to avoid any further bending of the ends when assembled. Thanks again for the video.
@@chrisupdegrave810 fantastic ideas here! 73,
Would've been good if you'd practised before turning the camera on. It doesn't sound like you have much of a clue, so I don't know to whom the video would appeal.

Nice video 👍
@@TheSmokinApe thank you! It's been cool deep-diving into carriers, modulation, etc., if only on borrowed equipment. Tye coolest thing to me was seeing on the scope what modulation looked like. If only every ham had an oscilloscope and waveform generator to mess around and learn on!
If there were some indentations/holes in the bottom of a case and protrusions in the top, then they could lock into place when stacked vertically and not slide about. Less permanent than gluing them together.
For the filter, could you disconnect the RF bits, and set a timer manually, or somehow connect a wired switch to it? For the garage door, is there a channel selector on the unit you could perhaps change to a different channel?
@@jampskan5690 no, sadly, there was no channel selector on the garage door. I even went as far as removing the RF module from the opener. No luck! I suppose I could modify the air filter, but I'm tempted to just get (or more likely build) a better weather station...it has been a bit disappointing.
move the weather station further away or add attenuation to your filter. as far as your garage door opener. mine went completely open and everyones remote would open my garage. what i find odd though is if you use the remote does the indoor weather station change its readings?
@@pen25 no it doesn't... That's the weird thing. Although my garage is significantly closer to the weather station than my house is, and my house has super ham-friendly steel siding 😂
It prints drawer walls very slow because of maximum layer time. There is not so much to print. You can workaround this by putting multiple drawers at the same time. So there will be more material per layer. If you just speed up you risk that walls may deform as they will not be able to cool down properly. But if simple speedup works for you, its OK.
I've been measuring out and printing similar little vase mode subdividers for my existing drawers and boxes, i should throw my design up on thingiverse/thangs/printables sometime. Theyre good to reuse those bulky boxes and such while still saving space
@@forivallyou should, I for one would love to see them!
For resistors, diodes, and other similar things I've actually found using a lever arch file and pockets designed for card collection (magic the gathering, etc.) All mine are just in a couple of files on the shelf.
I was expecting Gridfinity when you said printed organizer. This, is pretty neat too!
@@C3DPropShop ya know, I've been wanting to do gridfinity, but it doesn't really work for me. I keep most everything in tool carts, and gridfinity just doesn't seem to work in drawers (I know it wasn't intended to but cmon...)
@@hamradioexperience Gridfinity doesn't work for me neither. Amazing concept, just not for me.
@@NWGR seems like the big issue is, because Zack Freedman said it's not for use in drawers, nobody designs for use in drawers, so nothing's available for inside drawers. Personal opinion, but I think by saying that, Zack automatically limited Gridfinity's usefulness...
I use gridfinity a lot, including in drawers. Theres some nice stackable frames, etc.
@@DarrenPoulson is there a repository? I'd love to use it if I can find stuff that fits my tools!
3 ring binders and baseball card or coin pages work great for a large variety of components as well.
@@schwamforfreedom now that's a cool idea! Very portable too!
I always round or chamfer the bottom inside corners to make it easier to get small parts out. Nice that the design uses vase mode to print the drawers, makes it quick.
@@klave8511 Hm, cool thought on the rounded corners!
I just put a big chamfer on one corner and then I can slide them out
Fast-print modular storage drawer system is another nice one.
@@TheDark0rb sounds cool....you got a link? I'll check it out!
@@hamradioexperiencelinks don't work in TH-cam comments, but I searched the exact phrase and found it as the first result on printables. "Fast-Printing Modular Drawer System (Vase Mode)"
@@forivall ah. I'll check it out!
This looks pretty cool!
The only drawback I thought of, if it is vase mode it can't be printed too fast = ) You cannot print multiple models simultaneously in vase mode. And if drawer is small it will deform if not printed on proper speed. But they took less plastic is for sure. I love the idea.
@2:05 shout out to the Divine Mercy prayer card! :) Nice video! I should definitely make a couple of these! Thanks!
@@brandoneich2412 accidental cameo appearance lol. He hears what I say when the wrench slips! 73,
My first though is that it would be great if they would fit in a box or another case -sort small items into big groups, put big groups in a box, put box on shelf.
@@temporarilyoffline now that would be cool!! Maybe I need to spend some time on the modeling software and see if I can come up with something....
If you want to speed up the print of the drawers without having to manually up the speed at the printer for every print, check your print settings. Specifically External Perimeters speed. You'll probably notice that the External Perimeters speed is lower than the Perimeters speed. This is so the outside of regular prints looks pretty. Bump the External Perimeters speed up at least to the Perimeters speed to knock the drawers out faster. I don't know what slicer you are using so the terms might be a little different on your end. I use PrusaSlicer so that is where I got my terms. In PrusaSlicer you need to be on at least Advanced settings mode to see the speed settings. YMMV with other slicers.
@@Sembazuru good thinking! Yes, I'll need to translate that into Bambu Slicer, but. Thanks for the tip! 73,
@@hamradioexperience also check minimum layer time. which basically slows down printer when there is not enough time before next layer starts
@@slayer666321 good thinking, thanks!
Believe me, minimum layer time exists for a reason = ) Better put multiple items then have one fast and deformed item = )
Thanks Chris looks like a great little organization project!

Look up a T2LT antenna. hust coax and a wire.
@@ozone385 they seem very similar to flower pot antennas. Sounds like I should give one a try!
i use a dipole made with 1/2" copper pipe. it lays on the roof of my QTH because i am in an HOA.
@@robertjeffery3237 does it work for FM / repeater use? Around here, most hams use vertical polarization, so I've avoided horizontal dipoles...
@@hamradioexperience It doesn't have to be horizontally mounted.
Look into t2lt antennas. I might be biased since I've been experimenting with them a bit but it might just work.
@@chunkysalad9650 seems very similar to a flower pot antenna... Or am I missing the concept? 73,
I've built a "flowerpot" antenna for 6m a couple of years ago. It was for a club competition and I won! Let's not talk about it being by default as I was the only entrant...
Haha that's great! (And a bit sad) I wish more people enjoyed building antennas! 73,
Put together a 6m dipole.
I have a lot of luck with end-fed halfwaves. Easy to deploy, decent results and if you cut it right you don't need a tuner. NEver tried with 6m but the 40m one I built works great on 40, 20, 15 and with the tuner 160(ish) 80, 12 17 and 10
Yes, a 40-10 EFHW is my main HF antenna. Problem is, it's horizontally polarized for 6m FM and my group run vertical. That's where I was hoping the slim Jim would shine...guess not! 73,
Congrats on 1000, and hope the kit sells well.
I'd think about using that pole to cast a line over some of those trees, if they were mine. If they aren't your trees, ignore this comment.
I've climbed a few to put up antennas 🙂 I have the perfect trees for an 80m dipole! 73,
Thanks for all the fish...
Taut line hitch. I use them on my antennas too!
Thank you!
Hmm
1K now, and I saw that JPole at the FRARC hamfest. Maybe soon for my go box!
Yes! I'm trying to get a hold of Subscriber #1000...we'll get there!
@@hamradioexperience good luck wish I was it
Isnt this design actually a slot antenna?
Yup. Slot, slot cube...it's basically a folded slot. Thanks for watching! 73,
Question from someone who's never owned a 3D printer: can you print (using TPU ) small pickup rollers for a printer? Not the large main roller; these being the much smaller rubber pickup rollers that grip and carry the paper through the machine. Hoping I could do that for my vintage dot matrix, then sliding them over each of the four hard plastic cores. There's a split keyboard I also want to print, but that's another story altogether.
Someone with TPU experience please comment here.... ...but, from a theoretical perspective, I really don't see why you couldn't. The main thing to keep in mind when designing parts for 3D printing is that your parts will have a 'grain'. They'll be stronger in one direction than the others. As long as you design around that, you'll be good. My immediate thought would just be a cylinder standing on its end...fun project though!!
@@hamradioexperience That's encouraging. I really appreciate the reply. Just left a thumbs up. This looks like another expensive hobby. Oops!
@@harryvendryes It can be expensive, but doesn't have to be. If you don't count my old Ender, I have my printer plus a couple spools of plastic in it. Yes, you can get the AMS and enclosures and and and...., but I haven't seen a need for it, and I'm using the A1 for business use!
@@hamradioexperience Doing my homework on 3D printers right now. Thanks again from the UK... where tea is always hot!
Yeah the days of tinkering and working on the printer more than creating is over . The bar has been raised and it is not going back. 3 years ago i had a cr-10 and it was a nightmare im using the peopoly forge now its large scale fast and quiet resin printer . I was just like you when i first started using it just amazed at how fast and quiet it is . Yeah its a whole new world in 3d printing.........
I haven't touched resin printing yet....what's the benefit over FDM?
Resin printing is more detailed its also a little more messy but its controlled with a good work flow that works for you. Dont handle the prints without rubber gloves until they are cleaned with alcohol and cured with uv light or use sun light out side . Its way easier than fdm the printers run smoother with less tinkering you should get you a resin printer and give it a try and make sculptures .........
@@richardwilson2621 huh, sounds cool!
Fun bit of trivia: The A1 has no speakers of any kind. The little jingles it plays are all produced by the stepper motors.
W. U. T. Seriously? That's even more mind-blowing!!
@@hamradioexperience Bambu has a tool to convert midi music format to gcode. Search for "midi to gcode bambu lab tool". It's a page on the main Bambu website.

Print time is more like 12', ~13'. In total, calibration and whatnot, is 20'. I tried the benchy with the white filament that came with the printer, zero stringing! If you calibrate the flow with Bambu Studio for the filament you are using, I bet you wont see any stringing! (Fun fact, the latest Bambu Studio allows you to create calibrated profiles for different filaments, that you can then use with Bambu Handy app)
I haven't messed with the Bambu app yet; I've been running LAN only mode. I don't remember off the top of my head what, but I thought I saw that something will eventually need the app...what benefit does the app give you, other than ability to monitor from outside of your local network?
@@hamradioexperience the mobile app has a huge library of models with preset slices. Apparently, the filament can make a difference in the outcome, but you can adjust the right flow settings for each via Bambu Studio (the desktop app/slicer, not the mobile one). The desktop app gives you a couple more calibration options to fine tune your filament options.
@@CybeRNerO good to know! Yes, I've been messing with Bambu Studio a lot. A bit unintuitive sometimes, but once you find what you're looking for, it's got a lot of super cool features!
@@hamradioexperience I highly suggest you give OrcaSlicer a try. It's a fork of Bambu Studio that usually gets the latest open source improvements faster than Studio and it also has noticeable faster slicing as well as some really handy calibration tools/prints built in.
Same, got mine a week ago, printed complex stuff like torture toaster and gear top test from clockspring3d right out the box. I can't help laughing printing the sd card benchy on ludicrous mode, and it looks perfect as normal speed
