This channel is going to cover a lot of D.I.Y. style topics. Things like basic vehicle maintenance (Bike, Van and Car), Wood Working, Household Maintenance, Fish keeping and I'll even throw in the odd motorbike ride. Basically if I do something I think people will find interesting I'll probably video it and post it on here. I know not everybody will want to watch every type of video I make so I will try and group video's into playlists.
I don't consider myself an expert on a lot of the things I do and love people to suggest different ways of doing things. I appreciate all sorts of comments but trolling and spam will be removed. You are never too old to learn something new and should be open to ideas.

A Sad Loss
I've had one of those weeks. We all get them. I lost a lovely fish and a Job all in one week.
I have included some footage that may be distressful to some people but I will add chapters to this video so people can skip the unpleasant section. I have only included a short part of it. The full clip lasted around 15 minutes

Not having a go but you say what can you do, there is something you can do protect the sides more surely as if one can do it others still can to, sorry for you loss tho
Thanks for the sympathy. The issue comes from having a preformed pond. The only possible thing that I could do would be to net the entire thing. I'm not sure that would work either and it would look horrible. If it didn't have the trough around the edge it would work.
@@ItsWhatIDo can you not back fill it or plants around the edge as thats what its design for that area

Wow! mate, what a bummer with the koi, and he looked a really nice koi. You're absolutely correct about the media, I've had most of my media that's in my moving bed 10 years now and it's still only very slightly tinted brown, and I don't suffer with ammonia or nitrites problems at all. Hi Terry. Yes it was a lovely fish. I think what had upset it was I had turned the air off from the bottom drain (leaving just one airstone running)and any changes whatsoever would upset him. Having the media turn brown is a common misconception. At most it should only really turn an off white colour. All the rest is just dirt. Which isn't a problem. There will be those that disagree though.
Sorry for the loss this hobby gives kicks from time to time and its a hard ride and as to getting notice by Email is a low point and how life is today it should always be face to face good luck with your new path. Martyn
Cheers Martyn. Yes it was a real shame. He was a lovely fish and growing to be a really good size too. What got me with the job was they purposely left sending the Email until after I had finished my shift at 22:00. The timestamp on the email was 22:25. What really annoyed me was that I never got the chance to say goodbye to the other instructors that I'd worked with for the last seven months. They live up at Mansfield so no way I will get to see them again.

Hi, i live just down the hill from the zoo looking out on the chalk lion from our kitchen window. We visit a lot having bought season tickets for the grandchildren. its always a good idea to take your car in rather than parking outside as the place is massive as you found out. enjoy the videos
The gates were not open when we got there. We parked over the road and used the underpass. The guy on the car park did say we could park inside for free as we have a blue badge but once parked I couldn't be bothered with coming back out to move it.

The Retro Drains do get filthy I take mine out of pond about 4 times a year I have a brush so I can clean the top in between 🐟🐟🐟
Cleaning it with the pressure washer certainly solved some of the problem. You would think pumping the Ozone through it would keep the muck down but it didn't.

Hi Carol. To be honest I haven't measured her is quite a while. I would think she's over the 60cm mark now. The Kahaku is about the same size. As for the air... unfortunately it didn't fix it.

Wow! Jim, that was lucky really mate. I have seen a tube burst when someone switched the pump on and forgot to open the top valve. what a mess. I'm pleased all's ok though mate. Terry.
Cheers Terry. I can't stress enough how glad I am that I fitted the float switches. Hopefully someone will watch this video and see how easy it would be to lose everything with a pump fed system and get a float fitted.

Definitely! Without the float switch I would have lost them all. Don't delay mate. It can happen to anyone. There are a couple of video's on my channel that cover the wiring if you are not sure.
