Nothing going to give anything away 😢but I got very attached to the Witch's in Terry Pratchetts books 📚 and Granny Weatherwax was my favorite and always will be Tiffany and the rest well second runner up and of course well we have a female wizard and Jeffery the first male witch and my name sake 😂😮and strangely very much alike so many are still carrying on whether we read about them or not, after all it's Disc World. Bless your gingerbread 🎃 heart Sir Terry Pratchett you are and will be Greatly missed
So many Discworld books yet to read...
I envy you!! So much joy to come!
Googled to find this answer and you popped up. Thank you for taking the time to explain. Supermarkets have a lot to answer for and not always in a good way.
Happy to help (and yes, supermarkets do have a lot to answer for… but I need the loyalty card points!😂).
@ agree with you there. Thank goodness for Nectar card.
😂
Congrats on the book(s) and may you be able to quit your day job... I must confess I've never read Sir Terry - so far, I've read a few odd books by his friend and sometimes co-author, Neil Gaiman. Except for Good Omens...but like with Lennon /McCartney, it's hard to tell who wrote what . But the reason I am commenting is the compliment your fellow writer said "just like Terry Pratchett" and your reaction as a reader to it - yeah right. As a Tolkien fan from the Seventies, i can well remember all the publishers getting us desperate readers to buy some writer by gushing "it's just like Tolkien!" and we readers were always deeply disappointed. Glad to meet you, and I hope some of your humility rubs off on others in the profession.
Thank you! And yes, when marketing hyperbole meets reality it can only disappoint. 😂
I don't think there's a bad place to start, and besides you can always reread them; each time you'll see new stuff in there, and make new connections. It's all good.
I got started early with "The Colour of Magic" followed by "The Light Fantastic" and followed up with the rest of his work including "Strata". All very good but sometimes the humour lost its way but all worthwhile reading.
The best place to start with Sir Terry Pratchett is "yes".
🤣
My first Terry Patchet read was "The Lost Continent", which is probably not the best introduction as, having read most of his other works, I'm not sure that's his best but it still got me hooked. I don't have an out and out favourite but "Wyred Sisters" and "Witches Abroad" would feature very high on any list. I'm now going buy "The Shepherd's Crown" and "The Crow Folk". Thank you.
Thank you and I hope you enjoy The Shepherd's Crown.
Thank you. Really good and enjoyable critique or Terry's work. I was especially beguiled by the fact that, like me, your first Discworld book was Mort. I really can't believe there could be a better introduction the the oeuvre. That and, as you have observed of many Pratchett fans out there, my copy of The Shepherds Crown remains unopened.
Thank you so much. And I really hope you enjoy The Shepherd’s Crown when you get round to it. 😊
I’m that old that I read them in chronological order because that’s how they came out and I was always so excited to see and read anew one, I agree with everything said and love the watch and death but love the witches most of all, I’m off to see the elephant😊
Say hi from me!
Discovered Terry's work with the Wyrd Sisters last week. Quite enjoyed it. Got me curious more about it. Absolute agree you could see Macbeth running in it, but a very unique take on everything.
For me, the hard part was closing "The Shepherd's Crown". I knew what was coming, but didn't know how hard it was going to hit me. His loss was a massive blow, & I'm not sure I'll ever get over there being no more Terry Pratchett books.
Just start anywhere read I Shall Wear Midnight is one of his last books. His genius is making every story a masterpiece in of itself YOU DONOT HAVE TO GO 1 2 3 4 at all start with what you fancy they will all your mind .I agree totally unless they get Lord of the Rings treatment leave Ratchet to shine .Because all the adaptations to date are frankly pathetic
Yes get back to writing! I love your books!
Thank you so much!!😁
Mort was my first Terry Pratchett book also, iy got me through a very hart time with my over hypper teenage son who had problems getting to sleep, thus I also couldn' get to sleep also. His books were amazingly funny and a laugh solves many of lifes troubles. :D
Terry's writing is a definitely panacea to many of life's problems!😁
@@MarkStayWriter yep :D

Thank you so much! Glad you found it helpful!
Had no idea about this

I really cant write unless I’ve slept well. Bit of a curse!!
@@brusselsclaire Sleep well, then!😴
If you’re snoring like an 18-wheeler, I think you’ll find that’s not deep restful sleep. Also we may have the reason as to why the wife didn’t sleep well either…
😂
Great interview! Who needs to check Goodreads etc when you have reviews in FT etc? And Natasha Pulley is so In Laura's space!
Thank you, and yes I agree with the Natasha Pulley comparison. I think we'll see great things from Laura in the future!
Thank you for this great informative mini tribute! 😊 I fall asleep and spend my subconscious mind and body every night with The Disc World audiobooks I look forward to discovering your writing as well! ❤
That's a wonderful way to end a day!😴
The first novels are generally the best place to start. The colour of magic.
Start at the beginning!
I started with Guards! Guards! and it's still one of my favourite books in the series only topped by the witches books. Especially Witches abroad... so hilarious and brilliant.
Love those two! And your first is often your favourite. There's no beating that first encounter with Terry's amazing writing.
Just finished The Crow Folk (with my eyes) and have already purchased the next two in the series! What a fantastic world you've built. It's gritty and real and absurd and lovely.
Thank you so much! I'm always delighted when readers enjoy the books (with whatever organ they choose to enjoy it with!). And can I share that gritty, real, absurd and lovely line via my other social media, please? That's a great line!!
@@MarkStayWriter please, feel free!
@@allxyouxneedxforever Thank you!
His first book would be a good place. Brilliant author, sadly missed.
I owe this man so much. No author has shaped my views on humanity as much as Terry Pratchett.
You and me both!😂
I came late to Discworld too! My best takeaway from his stories is the Morality inside the humour. If only the Human Race had has much as Discworld we could solve a lot of problems. I have too many favourites but I do go back to Interesting Times and the Last Continent a lot. Reaper Man is brilliant. Oh! What the heck, they’re all great Plus, you’re quite right. No one compares to Terry Pratchett RIP
100% agree!😁
GNU terry pratchett
I actually read The Light Fantastic first and then The Color of Magic. I absolutely devoured his books. I haven't been lucky enough to read all of the books, but I loved every one I did read.
Wow! I hope it wasn’t too much of a head-scratcher. I hope you get around to reading more of his books. You’re in for such a treat. 😁
Very excited to say that I just ordered your first book! The setting sounds like a delight, can't wait.
Thank you so much! I really hope you enjoy it!
Amazing interview. As an amateur artist and writer, it's so cool seeing this kind of content. I love book cover illustrations! I want to see more of it. Shout-outs from Brazil 🫰💖
So glad you enjoyed it. Harry is amazing. Do check out more of his work here: www.harrygoldhawk.co.uk/
Um, Death doesn't show up in every book, actually. In Snuff, there is no Death. But the video is great!
Duly noted! Thanks!
I still say read them in the release order otherwise you will be dissappointed. his writing style and concepts evolve with time.
For any younger girls (daughters or nieces you want to introduce to him) I think I might start with the Tiffany Aching series (though I'd want to keep at least the last one way from them until after all the other books) to help hook them on Disk World before introducing the rest (the Witches books may be the first with female leads and Equal Rites the first with a young female character but the Tiffany ones are perhaps the better written (or more whimsical?) and more 'accessible' for younger children) .. for anyone else I'd just start at the start with The Colour Of Magic.
Love the Tiffany Aching series!
wait to you see the fith one
I started with Moving Pictures. Loved it. Probably my favorite of what I've read, along with Night Watch, and maybe The Color of Magic.
I love Moving Pictures! An underrated book in the series (but then I am a big movie nerd!)😂
@@MarkStayWriter Yeah, well I think that part of it hit me, too. Or I became one, after that. Who could have guessed? Lol.
@@FiresideChatswithMatts😂
I started with Maskerade because I loved the idea of a fantasy story that parodies the Phantom of the Opera.
A great place to start! (And I went to the launch party for it when I was a bookseller!)😁
Sorry I missed the live stream...🙂
Can you show us the entirety of your DW/Pratchett collection?
I'm sure I can rustle that up. What would you prefer? Video or photo? Either way, it's not that interesting... 😀
@@MarkStayWriterThank you for the reply! As far as I can see you’ve got a very cool book collection, so a video showcasing it would certainly be interesting. Personally, at least, bookshelf tours are my favourite type of TH-cam videos :)
I love this book!! Just got it on Audible after I watched your video on Discworld and I’m so so glad I did.
Thank you so much! Candida is an amazing narrator. I’m a very lucky author. She’s done all four of the books so far!
@@MarkStayWriter I can’t wait to listen to the rest!
@@trillian5250 I really hope you enjoy them!
I’ve never ever read terry pratchett but I have to say I came to this video for some clarity as to what to start with but you left me completely bewildered and so much more confused 😐 Like are all his books to be read in publication order? And what is disc world? Are all his books part of this so called discord? I’m so perplexed 🤔
Damn, I was all excited to help you out, then I saw that this comment was 7 months old! Oh well, I'm not gonna let that stop me! The first three books in the Discworld series should be viewed as a sort of pilot episode; some of the characters, places and rules of the world change quite drastically between the first three books and the rest of the series, so for that reason I'd recommend starting with the fourth book, Mort, and going in publication order from there. The Discworld series is 40-something books of humorous fantasy set on a flat, magical world. He's written a few other sci-fi and fantasy novels, which have no relation to the Discworld series. Let me know if you have any more questions! 🙂
I've just started Discworld. I'm in book 10 of Wheel of Time and wanted some lighter reading to help me through the slog, so I ordered "Guards! Guards!" which I'm about a quarter of the way through as well as Mort and the combo of "Colour Of Magic/ Light Fantastic." I started fantasy in the 80's with the absurdist world of Xanth by Piers Anthony and other than a few of Robert Aspirin's Myth books hadn't been back. So far I'm really enjoying his world. I like how Carrot's optimism is rehabilitating Vimes. Hope that's the direction it continues.
Keep reading. You’ll love it!
Guards! Guards! is a great place to start. Equal Rites is also great. The last book his Alzheimer's didn't noticeably damage was Unseen Academicals. I didn't read the last couple of books because their extreme drop in quality just depressed me. I will certainly look into your work.
The Shepherd’s Crown is definitely worth reading.
I'll certainly get you book on audible when my next credit comes up. I can't bring myself to get Shepherds Crown. The couple novels that proceeded it read like fanfiction relative to his earlier work. Pratchett's work feels like a great marriage that had a bad couple of years at the end@@MarkStayWriter
@@TheAyeAye1 Thank you!
@@MarkStayWriter Agreed, I love that book. The whole Tiffany Aching series is amazing.
Several of these are going on my tbr📚Thank you!👍👍👍
Happy reading!
What if you just don’t want to read any of his books?
I love The Carpet People.
Old school. Like it.
A great video. I'll see if your book has made it to my library (its not scary is it?) Thank you for the recommendations re Pratchett. I've read about 10 over the years, but got my hands on the first 5 at a charity shop. I'll be reading Sourcery after I've finished Time Regained. They are amazing books. He is such a funny writer and I loved the TiffAche book series. I hope I can get to Wyrd Sisters this year too. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Angela! I don't think the Crow Folk is *too* scary. There's no blood or gore if that helps!
I knew Gaiman novellas first so I read Good Omens, then I read Sourcery because that was the only Discworld book in the local library. After than I mostly read in publication order.
Just got my first TP book: Going Postal. What do you guys think abiut this one?
I wasn't a huge fan of it on my first read, but enjoyed it a lot more the second time around. I don't think Moist is as instantly appealing as some of Terry's other characters.
