The original by Jaco is unbeatable. I enjoy the covers as variations, but they don't add anything better to Jaco's way of playing it. It's his composition anyway and he got the spirit and tone perfect.
About to make a comment that could get me kicked out of the "Low Enders' Club." I looked up Jaco playing this and decided I didn't like it. This I like!!!
Just look at his facial expressions when it kicks off. It’s of pure confidence and authority over an extremely complex piece. Jaco played drums on the album version too I think. His fluidity on fretless is pretty much stunning.
lord know what rhythm the kick drum is going, it might be a double pedal and the guitarist spent most the time looking at pedals and amps trying to get the sound perfect hahaha. very technically challenging but still a really strong sense of melody and progression
I never thought playing that bastard of a bassline was possible personally, I keep trying. Then Marcus Miller steps up takes it to a whole new level and slaps it!!! Cheers Marcus 😂 Amazing <3
Putain,ce slap parfait....Merci Mr Miller,je suis tombé amoureux de la basse avec cette basse Line terrible sur l album The man with the Horn " FAT TIME"💣🙏,merci et merci et encore merci
one day you fall on this video, and you ask yourself : hum, Marcus usually slap, he's not gonna slap teen town ? then at 0:45'' you take the answer in the face and in the ears !! WOOOOOOW he did

The thing I don't like about this cover (as impressive as it is) is that Marcus never places himself as the bass player and lays that very needed low end. The great thing about Jaco's playing in this tune is exactly that. No matter how complicated, gimmicky, fast, or solo-y he played, he never forgot to lay the low end and groove.
+Nikolaj Haun Hansen Huh. Seems you have that exactly backward. When I think Marcus, I think big fat low end and groove, solo secondary. When I think Jaco, I think thin tone, very busy, and soloing all over the place sometimes not leaving much room for anyone else. (Which is exactly what Wayne Shorter used to say about Jaco). This tune doesn't really have a bass line except the whole thing which is a written line.

me thinks Marcus plays a little too much on this legendary track, let your band mates shine too I say dude
Omg.... speechless 😊😊😊
One of the best bass lines ever played…

That bass is just slamming! So much better than the Squires...

The timing of the band is so spot on here, it gives me shivers every time
Fenomenale
Remember Joe Zawinul played in unison with Jaco! RIP Joe and Jaco
This is truly smokin' ~ ~ ~ ~ !!! Go Marcus the man - Brilliant version!

Whenever I start thinking I'm "good" at bass, I come back to this video
Who is the guitar player?
Dean Brown

In that vid he calls teen town ‘medium level’ 😭lol
🐸 Great Marcus ❗ He puts in evidence what Jaco Pastorius did at his time...where the Bass was really uderestimated✔️
とにかく無駄がなくて、余裕を持った分でグルーブする。マーカスは機械ではなく人が弾いてる事を教えてくれる。
this is best sound ever.
name of drummer ?
This is so good!!
very good...
Nice!
many bass players are not able to play it with fingers, Marcus plays it on slap...
many bass players are not maybe that interested !
lol as if slap was hard
@@doriangrayest yes but this specific song is hard to play using slap bass frankly because of its speed and technique required
Yeah but hes also playing it on a fretted bass...
@@zombieds bro shut up, try to play it yourself, then we're talking
I do prefer his version even to Jaco's one...! Nr 1 at slapping
Sloppah da beeeyass!!
Check out Mohini Dey`s version. As an 18 year old bass virtuosity, SHE ups the stakes on improvisation and technique. TNBT.

That is not the purpose of this composition. It is a bass solo. Captain Obvious
