Hiking The Appalachian Trail: Reaching The Last Town! (Episode 46)

In this adventure it feels like all I talk about is bugs, rain and the 100 mile wilderness as I make my way from Caratunk to Monson, for my last town stop on the Appalachian trail. In Connecticut I was reminded to “put yesterday down, it’s heavy” I struggle to put yesterday down a little heading out of Caratunk, but despite the muddiness, mugginess and bugginess.. It was an amazing episode. I really enjoyed watching this video. I think you need to update the video quality a little. What do you think?
Outstanding episode man! 👏👏
Congratulations

thumbnail is wild, Murrica! great video brother! the moose did not want to be in your TH-cam video!
@@Richard12233 Thanks. That moose was standing in a lake to my left, and I had no idea it was there until it bolted onto land and crossed in front of me up the trail! I barely got my camera (I need to be faster) I thought a lot about whether the short clip was even worth showing.. but zoomed in, and slowed down, I had to include it! I only saw two moose!!
So serene and scenic, loving the visuals.
@@ervinslens it really was, thank you!

@@robstimson4234 S.O.B.O. Just means southbound hiker.
5:15 Synchronicity! When you said "nice to meet you birdie!" a titmouse or a nut hatch landed on the bell shaped seed feeder l hung 20 minutes ago.
@@robstimson4234 interesting 🤯 I had what I thought was the coolest white t shirt when I was a kid, the police synchronicity, and am just now realizing those may as well have been blue, yellow and red “blazes” on that album art..!?
I would never be brave enough..
Mom will be back. She'll drop one in one location, then go have the other far enough away that if a predator gets one it doesn't get both. She'll go back and forth between them to feed them but otherwise stay away, since they don't have odor to attract predators yet. Once they do, she'll gather them and stay with them.
It was a father and son who crashed a small plane. They both camped next to the crash site and hiked out the next day. Happened in 1984.
@@katherinecollins9636 Thank you for commenting! I had read that in the “farout” app comment section, someone had mentioned they were told that by the Woman who worked at the ATC visitor center in Monson. What an incredible story, so happy to read everyone involved survived!
Love all the literary references.
@@katherinecollins9636 your comment really means a lot to me! The feeling of walking through an unreal place I had only heard about never left me, my mind always came back to middle earth or Narnia hiking this trail. I sill feel like I’m walking through a painting when I go out on my favorite sections of the trail I live by now..

i made 2 headnets with lens + nose-shield cut in...1 sunglasses, 1 clear lab goggles 😊
the concept came from being trapped in a tent...needed adequate visibility...and had some duct tape and a knife😝
@@Se7nDust that is very interesting! One of my many issues with wearing the head net is less/altered visibility..

The green blue and white colors of the sky and Mts are wild!! Myron H Avery is a Mainer
The first time I heard of Myron Avery was standing on the peak named after him. It has been one of the more interesting things to come about retrospectively for me, I knew of Benton MacKaye, rewatching the videos I took and looking into Avery and learning about him, and a little more about MacKaye, and how the A.T. Came to be is fascinating to say the least..
Cool video! "Flagstaff Lake" not pond
Absolutely amazing scenes my friend! Beautiful episode 👏👏
@@ervinslens Thank you! You have been encouraging me here for a long time! I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the support and kind words. When I first began this hike, I was a complete beginner to long distance hiking and overnight camping, and had to learn all the challenges one by one, and figure out how to keep going with out at the very least, making it harder than it already was.. when I decided to share on youtube, it was the same thing, I was (and still probably am) new to all of it, and there are so many little details.. as challenging as a long distance hike is, it’s the easier of the two for me, I never wanted to stop hiking. I’ve never sprained my ankle editing and uploading a video to youtube… but I have walked away from it, taken a long break. I had just uploaded what I thought was a great video, one of my favorite sections of trail, unique encounters with nature, and very few views resulted, I felt crushed (I needed to be reminded to be grateful for the views I did have) and maybe toughen up a little bit, there are countless hiking videos higher quality than mine.. you commented on that video “Absolutely marvelous upload my friend, this looks and sounds amazing!” And I don’t really know how to express how appreciative I am for every positively reinforcing comment you have left, but I should try. Thank you for helping me down the trail that is youtube my friend!
@ you are so welcome 🙏 I watch almost only hiking content on TH-cam and I enjoyed your work!
Hiking in the ridge in frog toggs that time of year is wild. The bird is known as a Gray Jay aka camp robber. They always want food!!
@@Community-Action yes! You aren’t lying, and still no frog togg sponsorship… I got to know the Gray Jays through the Presidential’s and slowly caught on they wanted food and I wasn’t a bird whisperer. Thank you for watching and commenting!

@@Richard12233 the overwhelming majority of the time I’m using a go pro 9 in this video with some footage taken with my apple iphone 12. The 3 previous videos were all with my iphone because I needed to buy a new sim card. Other than that all videos I’m going north are a mix of both and all the early videos I’m traveling south were just my iphone. Thank you for watching!
Absolutely amazing episode my friend! This section looks so powerful!
@@ervinslens thank you very much! It really is, I wish I captured more footage in the notch and climbing out, but being honest with myself I spent so much energy navigating it and climbing up and out. I hope to be back some day and highly recommend visiting the Mahoosuc range

Hey Chris, You did well despite the challenges. Thanks for sharing your adventure! 🥾🥾⛺️

@@HikerChris7323I wanted to yell thru the screen just hit reset….take a moment. You were frustrated for sure. You did it though…😁
Well that wouldn’t be the first time I was yelled at 😂 maybe 1st time through a screen though? I probably knew deep down I wasn’t going to go any further than Imp shelter that day, but I usually am running through a plan A,B, and C in my mind trying to judge how far I think I can/should go based on all the different variables in the moment. Without trying to be sensational, that day was worse than I could show, I had a lot of bad falls off camera, plus a small fun fact, if you noticed small pauses when the audio went silent, I was editing out me cussing, once out of joy from the view, the rest from frustration. Thank you so much for watching!
@@HikerChris7323I was yelling to you, not at you.😊
