Lots of old school MotoGP Sounds from the 990 era, 2002-2006
Rossi’s 2002 spec Honda “2 Pipe” RC211V ridden in 2003 by the young up and coming Ryuichi Kiyonari
Ryuichi Kiyonari took over this ride after Kato was tragically killed as Suzuka in the first race of 2003. So they didn’t take any chances and decided he’d just ride the 220hp @wheel V5 Honda which was the same spec as Rossi’s 2002 championship winning bike. They weren’t going to let him ride the much angrier 3 straight cut exhaust pipe version of the 2003 V5 which was nudging 240hp at wheel. You can hear clearly how Hondas V5 was built to mimic a V-Twin on steroids. the 2002 spec bike here is filmed at the 2003 island race after saturday practice still wasn’t even runnning a ram air set up for the airbox.
Honda were able to add extra performance add ons whenever the competition started to get bit close. The 4 pipe version that Hayden, Biaggi and i think all the other honda riders except Gibenau abd the 2 customer Hondas were running the 4 pipe V5 which to this day was the best sounding honda GP bike ever. Honda’s V5 was also purpose built with this big v twin style firing order where the Proton V5 was designed it be run in a flat or cross plane crank & in 2003 it had the flat crank screamer, more like howling V5 reminiscent of an Audi Quattaro or RS3 5 cylinder. Which is essentially half a Lamborghini V10. That Proton to date is my favourite sounding engine, bike or car period!!!!

When a Ducati sounded like a Honda, a Honda like a Ducati, Suzuki’s V4 sounded like a big bang Yamaha - The Yamaha well sounded like an old 5 valve flat crank in line 4, the Aprilia with its howling triple and the gorgeous sounding Proton sounding like 2 Aprila’s or how i described them that year, They sounded like a Tie Fighter from the 1st Star Wars

I loved the first of the four strokes. There was so much interesting and violent technology ! They are due for a shake up of some kind now I think.

And that 2004 model was way easier & even sounded half as nasty as the 2002 cube & that had a full Akra muffler - I do have a clip of that I’ll put up soon

I think only one was a full house M1 Yamaha - the YRT hotted up R1 engined bike that run back then, was doing a heaps of laps that session, there was 2 of them, dark blue - but the kwaka, M1 & v4 Ducati were the screamers
@@paolouchicentofanti8494 M1, wow 270hp (way past insanity 😄), unsurpassed sound. The V4 sounds nothing like an inline liter bike; R1 or GSXR etc.
@@bikersoncall depends on firing order of their engine, the V4 ducati in 2003 was very much like an inline V4, they went back to this flat plane even firing order engine in the 800 days with stoner.
@@bikersoncall i think in 2003 they were still at the 230 mark at back wheell, maybe the duke was 235-40. In 2004 most bikes were 240 @ the wheel & in 2002 they all about 220 @ wheel with the Aprilia initially having the most.

back then suzuki, honda were the big bang cross plane type engined bikes, then in 04 things got better but file me the proton V5 in 03 was the best - in 04 they big banged it & sounded half as good

The best, he did ride this bike the week or 2 before at Sepang but the only footage I ever seen was him on the conventional flat crank (screamer engine)

Yes correct 990cc and that was its final year they raced it. The head crew chief said it had 240hp @ the wheel but the engine it Self was to BÎG physically. It was actually wider than Rossis big bang M1 Yamaha, which I also have exclusive video footage of at this test. It was the 1st time I believed it was filmed as I’ve never seen footage from the 1st ride he had on it a week earlier in sepang. This test he rode it both of the days

@@arunjyoti72 because it was revving to 17000rpm with pneumatic valves. Basically 3 cylinders from a Cosworth V10 F1
