I am a cutthroat trout junky! So I hope you enjoy my adventures as I fly fish for these beautiful native fish in streams, rivers, and lakes across the west!
Fly Fishing for Native Cutthroat - San Juan National Forest - Colorado River Cutthroat Trout
Hey everyone! Today I explore another tributary stream of the Dolores River in Southwest Colorado within the San Juan National Forest. This creek holds native Colorado River cutthroat trout as well as non-native brook trout. I've fished here once before so I just had to visit again. My cousin was able to join me for this adventure and we both caught plenty of fish!
Hope you enjoy the video and let me know if you have any questions!

Yellowstone Cutthroat in Utah's Raft River Mountains - Native Trout Fly Fishing - Runoff Season Pt 2
มุมมอง 550หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey everyone! In this video I travel to the Raft River Mountains/Sawtooth National Forest in order to fish for Utah's most elusive native trout, the Yellowstone Cutthroat! Conditions were tough though as runoff is still in full swing, making many pockets which would hold water blown out and rushing too quickly. Lower in the creek it was also a bit off color and muddy, but as I travelled up into...

Fly Fishing for Native Bonneville Cutthroat in a Local Creek
Your cousin is hot
Such a fun place to go, I need to get back there soon! Also we have the same name😂
I’ll be there next week! Great video
"oh snap!" You sound like me when I get into unicorns like that!
Did me and my friend run into you up on Saturday? You passed us before going up the creek that starts with V?
Bingo! Yes you did, I didn't end up finding any fish up there by the way haha
@@ChasingCutts dang! Yeah I bet it was a tough creek
Pretty little stream.
Wow!!! Super cool. I grew up in Durango for 20 years and never fished the Dolores. Now I need to plan a trip up from New Mexico.
More Dolores River tributary videos coming soon! You can hit multiple creeks and find lots of pretty cutthroat!
@@ChasingCutts I’m excited for more videos! Aside from blue-lining on a USGS map, do you recommend any resources for learning the area and public access?
@@ScottKershawRX well I use apps like FishBrain to get ideas, but particularly when it comes to cutthroat trout I study various cutthroat population assessments that are put it ever few years and other research articles to learn where core populations are located 👍
Pretty little stream. I learned to love the outdoors in Durango. Beautiful part of the world.
Very nice video and amazing nature.
Utah yellowstones in late summer is the hardest I ever fished for one fish. Would love to fish it earlier in the year. Nice video.
So you uintas are kind of like the Sierra nevadas man cold in a lot of Rock but they also don't grow that big of fish not in high production I'll just let you know that I wasted a couple of Summers going to the northern part of the state to the uintas and I've never gone but gone back the middle of the states where it's at
We were up there about a week ago. The water wasn't so high and we all managed to catch our cuts, then we moved on to a friendlier stream where we all fell in.
I’m sure if it was a hot day falling in felt great!
Cool you almost had a double! so glad summer is here!
I met you this spring at the fly fishing expo. Glad I found your channel!
That's great! Was I at the Cutthroat Slam booth?
Gorgeous meadow. Too bad you couldn't get any cutts from that lake. They can get pretty decent.
Holy smokes! I tried my luck out there last year but never found water like that. Which creek was this, if you don't mind sharing?
Great video
Cool trip! Nice to see some water from that corner of the state. I've heard about the stream that everyone uses for their Yellowstone. I assume that's where you were, although I've done some map nerding and have other spots in mind. Anything that flows north off that range is game for the slam, right?
Yep that sounds about right, you can see the map on the Slam website that has the drainages highlighted that are home to the Yellowstone cutthroat, but check the Slam website for the suggested list of locations on where to fish so you have the best chances of success!
Hey I stumbled across this channel and love your content!!! Im in Utah as well!! I'd love to go fishing with you sometime! I'm currently pursuing my cutthroat slam! Let me know if you're interested!
I’m always willing to give advice for your Slam! I can’t guarantee I’ll have time to get out there and join you fishing, but I’m open to the possibility and can at least point you in the right direction 👍
Micah what's your email? I can tell you the name and location of this spot, and a couple of others in Raft - one in particular that is much more accessible than this spot in the video. I was just up there last weekend and yes, there's a ton of water right now!
Nicely done!
Thank you for this Hayden
Hayden, fun little adventure. Rising fish, early season midge hatch... nothing like a Parachute Adams #20, the America Express fly, don't leave home without it!
Such a great area. Probably my favorite. Too bad you didn't get anything from the main lake. The smaller ponds hooked you up, though, and you got a taste.
I though it was bleeding at first 💀 Beautiful fish tho man 🙌
Very nice Brown
Hayden I agree that spooking the first fish in most adventures is a staple for success 😂
They even painted them in there spawning colors!
Bass'n'Trout posted a video a few days ago from this exact same log you are fishing on 😅
Correct! Haha!
That "brookie" you saw at the main lake was probably a tiger. They're stoked there and also have that stripe on the fin. If it really was a brookie, the DWR will be very put out.😂
W O W That is beautiful❤❤❤
Nice colored up beauties
Dude. Sweet
Thanks!
Sweet catches
2:18 pretty fishy
We are going in that area today. Super inspiring. Great video Hayden.
What an awesome video! What gorgeous cutthroat those are. It is certainly my style of fishing. I subscribed. I fish similar water here in Arizona for our native trout. What fun!
Thanks so much! Love to hear it! Arizona's native trout are a fun time to chase also, I went for Apache trout this past summer!
That creek is my literal back yard. Much appreciated for not spot burning, tight lines!!
that was a toad not a frog! XD
True! Haha
Great video
I bought that same rod last year, it's a blast to fish!
So, what are the specs on the fly rod you used?
Maxxon Quill 4wt 6’6”
Man those were some nice ones! Such pretty fish in such small water. I’m sure the brush made it challenging but that looks so fun
Great work!
I love the purple haze so much it’s going to be tattooed on my forearm lol. Just subscribed Hayden let’s get out soon and collab.
Nice work. Brushy, windy and clear water. I’m giving a difficulty rating of 9
💕Wow💙💙💙💗💗💗💙
Let’s go !
Beautiful spot!
