Prince was continuously evolving throughout his 40-year career and often performed new versions of his own songs. In this video, we explore 4 versions of Manic Monday.
1) 0:05 Manic Monday Demo Version - Song was recorded on February 4 & 5, 1985 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, CA and was originally intended for the Apollonia 6 album but was withdrawn from the album prior to release. Prince decided to give the song to The Bangles after enjoying their video for "Hero Takes a Fall." In May 1985, The Bangles recorded their version of the song at The Sound Factory, and their version was included on their second studio album "Different Light," released on January 2, 1986. The demo version included here was released posthumously on June 7, 2019 as part of The Originals project.
2) 2:55 Manic Monday performed live with The Bangles at their show on May 14, 1986 at Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, CA. Prince and Wendy Melvoin were featured as special guests during this show and performed Manic Monday and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On.
3) 6:05 Manic Monday performed live at Paisley Park Studios on June 28, 2002 (am) during Prince's Xenophobia Celebration. This performance features audience/NPGMC member Connie Castillo on vocals and was dubbed by Prince as "karaoke night at Paisley Park."
4) 9:15 Crimson & Clover with an interpolation of Manic Monday performed live with 3RDEYEGIRL on April 30, 2013 at Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ as part of the Live Out Loud Tour.
