Barred owl sounds at night (audio only)
มุมมอง 97K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Barred owls in NC, USA. The "commotion" around 3:45 is a territorial dispute when they converge at the edges of their established territories. The loud "yuk yuk yuk" sound is typical when they get going. (h/t to @blueworldfire for this explanation).
This is the best owl species in my opinion in the Eastern United States primarily

For some reason when I first started hearing this noise last year I thought it was coyotes or Foxes or some type of wild dog Especially if it was a pack of them cause sometimes they would sound like a monkey and a hyena yelling at night
Like it for scarring mice y’all

I live on the west side of Mt Rainier foot hills near Yelm Wa and have been hearing this sound around midnight for the last 3 or 4 nights. Didn't know exactly what is was until I heard this video. It's exactly the same noise.
FINOOIT Is Not OINFOIT ... Or Is It?
witches sounding
Just heard this right outside my window around 2am, there's a big tree by my bedroom window, wasn't sure what owl it was just checked this video and same noise now I know, I'm in Canada BC. Window was open too
These are all barred owls. The "commotion" around 3:45 is a territorial dispute when they converge at the edges of their established territories. The loud "yuk yuk yuk" sound is typical when they get really going.
Oh that's the part I was thinking because. It sounded like a monkey type of yell or a coyote. I kept thinking it was a pack of coyotes or Foxes because of that particular noise but I heard the branches and shot smashing and about of "ya yah ya yah " screaming and I knew some was scrapping . I thought it was a bunch of coyotes fighting off birds . But when you said "territorial" it made sense .
Its just past midnight in southeast Missouri in the USA right now and i hear these exact sounds! Ones a quarter mile away at least in the front yard and the other is in the back yard but i hear him getting closer :D just a lil midnight convo between two owls i guess lol
These are more relaxed than the ones in TX. The ones here sound so freaking retarded!!
Most definitely a barred owl, I'm also in Baltimore! Barred owls are normally found near rivers, streams, ponds, etc. if you live on the east coast near water you most likely have barred owls if you know or not!
I play this before I go to bed for my wife because right when the lights go out she shares her to do list with me
Hearing this right now from the woods - 9 pm orange county ny. Was never certain what it was...
This is sertanly an owl I hear this out side my window at night im in the uk. Its so peaceful and magical.
are you sure this is an owl I hear this sound outside my house a lot and its not coming from the trees they were outside my window on the ground. I can't figure out what this is...
What owl is that around 4:00, that sounds like a "yuk yuk yuk" noise? We just had one right outside our window and I haven't been able to pinpoint what type of owl it is.
I'm listening to this very sound right now in Baltimore.
thanks for sharing... we just heard these exact sounds out our window in TN, USA and thought they were night owls... and now I know this is what they are...
