This scene is similar to what happened during the Civil War. Confederate troops were often called a Legion of Scarecrows. Barely feed anything. So during battles like Shiloh they would stop from their charges and advances to eat Union food still piping hot over a fire. I’d imagine it looked a bit like this scene.

Dude it's just painful to watch. Those young men freezing and starving in mud and how they just go for a food in the middle of the battle. I mean... Just imagine this shit. Hell... I tired up

For some reason these scenes are what i watch the most. After violent rampages through trenches and tents. They shoot down the few remaining soldiers that aren't of theirs. The last one goes down and then... Food, the better ones they usually see on advertised restaurant flyers. Food only the higher classes could eat while sat down comfortably on their purple silk-cushioned chairs and their monacles and colorful suits. And when they knew it was safe, the soldiers feast. In the blink of an eye they stuff themselves silly of the sausages and steak that lie before them. They knew there wasnt much time before the tanks mow them down so they had to act fast. Tomatoes, bread, meat, everything on the table, devoured before they face what is coming for them. They know their muskets won't stop an armored tank but they're glad they're able to have such a grand last meal before their inevitable deaths at the hands of bloodstained warfare.
