A great discussion with Neil about target quality and presentation. I think it is a very important. I usually avoid the major events for target difficulty. I am definitely turned off by attending a super large event and shoot 45% to 50%. I would rather spend my money going to local clubs or a state event. I only have so much money for events and shells. I usually shoot 50% at my state event but can shoot 75% to 80% at local club events. Just my opinion too!

After hearing the podcast I called Steve and left a voicemail about a friend at my local club. He was on the Army skeet shooting team at Fort Benning and shot the targets for John Wayne there for the movie Green Beret. Steve and Phil called back promptly and were excited to hear the story. Phil asked if I knew the name and when I told him Richard Foranado Phil said I know him! I sent a picture of Dickie standing next to John Wayne both in uniform and Steve and Phil loved it. The thought of my friend getting recognized in the Museum, helping the museum, and reuniting some old friends with a simple phone call after hearing a podcast is amazing. Keep up the good work! Thanks for the Scoops. I really like hearing the opinions of people who attend the larger shoots. I agree with many of David's comments about the marketing of the National Championship. I would rather spend my money going to a few local events near to me or a state event than spend thousands to go to one National event or even one Regional event. The smaller clubs could use the money and their targets are hard for me anyway. I bounce between C class and D class. Not really worthy a visit to Nationals.

Jasper was shooting behind me in our squad for the duration of the Worlds. I can say he saw extremely polite and considerate and we talked over various topics during the four days. I could not fault his etiquette and he displayed some superior clay shooting skills. I don’t know him but did hear about the reason behind the indifference but that was not my business. I did also see the Make a Break final and was surprised at the end but I enjoyed my four days shooting with him and wish him all the best.

I shot the event and heard there was 740 acres with 400 Promatic machines in use across the 8 fields, three super sporting fields and the five stand. We enjoyed the event.

Hey guys, if half of your squad are missing do you think that squad rotation should be postponed and vacated spots be filled by other squads with similar problems.I had to shoot 5 stand at nationals with myself and one other guy and had no clue of target presentations once we started to rotate through the stands. It’s a horrible position to be in. Thanks

Thats the great thing about sporting you can sign up and shoot against the best in the world.Just make it world cup points like fitasc.They will lose shooters if they make you qualify for the world or national champoinship.Jon Kruger in 2001 made 18k winnings at the US Open at MM Brandon Powell earned 18k winning the worlds and events .Great review Joemez519873

I shot USPSA pistol through the 80s and 90s. I had to earn a slot to attend the National Championship at my local club which would get a couple of slots based on attendance through the year, or at an Area Championship which had slots for the top positions overall and top shooters through the classes. In those days the nationals could only have 500 to 600 shooters.

Excellent conversation with Mr Hampton Jr. I was glad to hear the discussion around classes. My perception was the EC only cared about the highest classes and top shooters. The NSCA portion was great! It was nice to get clarification on how the changes to class came about and the hard numbers that support the changes. After this segment, the changes sound appropriate, and time will affirm that or disprove that.

I wish I had learned to trust the process and patience as I grew and continue to grow in the sport. Also, I would have invested more time and money for a coach, to learn not only to be a good shooter but a good competitor. So many great points I agree 100% about the shells, I was guilty too.

Interesting change of shows. It brought out some thoughts of my own. I had punch fever, used shells that bruised my shoulder, listened too much to my friends and avoided larger events. A couple more of my own. Read clay books earlier. Check out TH-cam videos earlier. A comment on coaches. If I had a coach earlier I think by now I would have found a Level III. Difference in skill training. Thanks to all of you for your work for the sport.

Back in the late 90s. Remington decided to put their advertising dollars into Nascar. Their logic was sound, it's all about exposure to potential customers.Others followed and shooting sports have never recovered.

Unless and until you can get televised sporting clays competitions, with the type of cameras and expertise used in golf, there won't be big purses in clays. With shot tracking technology, super slow motion etc it is possible. But you can't have people pitching a fit, throwing shells and using profane language when they miss. There needs to be a code of conduct, a dress code, and some standardization in the flow of a tournament.

I heard the talk of the shoot-offs and stuff. My home club in Ione California has a special shoot-off 5-stand that has spectator seating, neon green targets that are easy to see and splash with color good when broken, and very tough targets with varying range and speeds (it’s on the side of the hill so the target setter gets really creative with terrain). Some of the shoots the club holds that use more than one of its 3 courses have a special Top Gun award where the top score of each course face off at the shoot-off 5 stand and the seats are always packed every time it’s quality entertainment

Regional championships should be tough .I hate soft targets i like a challenge thats why i shoot Fitasc i expect a challenge not a charity course. Plan your head for the bigger shoots . I shot the Fitasc at FSGC and did about 3 lighter than i wanted Finished 91In penelty class Master.Pick and chose the clubs you shoot.
