I have seen 2 other makers do this exact project. 1 did it the traditional way. It was amazing and should last a century, but I don't plan on becoming a professional book binder to do it. Another did it the quick amd dirty way. She got a cool looking book, but over time, those 3 volumes will definitely come apart. This is the best of both methods. It is much easier than the professional way, but should last as long under similar use. GREAT method for the average DIY who wants a book that will actually hold up to real world use.

Idiots are better to work on farms :) or get a NASA Education mod, send them to the education facilities, and then the Idiot trait is gone.

If you ever felt like doing another project like this, four keys book arts did one recently and it be good for you to take a look to get more ideas. Your project was still good though.

totally doing this to my AD&D books I would really like to have the phb dmg mm1 and 2 and the unearthed arcana if room the greyhawk boxed set books in it and the maps floating in the front cover ....

So how much would it be to get one of these made?

some interesting techniques used there, for me to experiment with.

If these are perfect bound what is the point in sewing them as there would be no signatures to bind?

Oh I'm so annoyed! You did a marvelous job... But I've been working on mine for 5 years off and on, still havent finished it. I made the mistake of taking the glue off (soooo much Xacto blading!) and creating a new perfect bind. I even have the bookmark ribbons, though they're differently colotted to match the books they come from. I'm soooo stealing from you. This looks amazing. Props!

5 minutes in my neck hurts because I find myself craning my neck to not watch at a god damn dutch angle...

Old video, I know, but the creator is wrong. The books are, in fact, stitched signatures. Had he taken two minutes to examine the books, he would know this. Yes, there is glue on the spines, but that is normal for stitched signatures. If you don't put glue on the spines, there is nothing to hold the mull to the spine of the text block. The stitching on the three books does not line up, which creates its own problem but one that is not insurmountable. How someone who claims to be a bookbinder could miss this is beyond me.

This is 100% what I have been looking for and had no idea to just search for exactly this. I've wanted to combine 3 rule books into a single leather bound tome. Now I'm a little less worried about ruining nearly $100 in paper

Question: do you stitch each individual set of pages at the beginning or do them in groups?

I'm doing this myself and distressing the pages to look old and weathered (makes the book seem like some lost tome). It also allows some mistakes and imperfections in the process

Fantasic map! In terms of video editing I would suggest you mute the sped-up parts to avoid the chipmunk squeaks and have some royalty free music quietly in the background. That would take this to a 10/10

The beginning was so hard to watch. They are such beautiful books I had a hard time watching you take the covers off. I get upset if one of my pages gets creased or something. Beautiful end product though.

I could be wrong, but I think H2O2 acts as an oxidizer to help the acid work. I think strong acid plus peroxide is piranha solution (the stuff they dissolve dead bodies with in movies and tv shows).
