A nice version. well done. However it is not a traditional Irish song. It was written by 2 Englishmen, Frederic Weatherly and Stephen Adams, and published in 1897. They also wrote a lot of other famous songs. Frederic Weatherly also wrote the lyrics of "Danny Boy". "The Maid of Malabar" became very popular in Ireland and was still sung when it was forgotten in Britain. That is probably why many people think it is an Irish song. Best Regards.
thank you for the information , well done. John Harrington.
My lovely friends Carolina, and Susie O, Connell used to do full justice to this air of the Coast of Malabar. Sean Tyrell from Galway sings the greatest version of the air I sing it in.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
This is a woefully insipid -- not to mention, incoherent -- attempt at this beautiful song. Ry Cooder tried and was't very successful either. I agree 100% with your opinion that the great Sean Tyrell has come up with the best version.
