Texsolv heddles: A tutorial for working with polyester weaving heddles
Polyester Texolv brand heddles are an affordable, easy-to-use option for weaving that, at first look, can be intimidating to put on your loom. And what can be worse is if you drop your Texolv heddles and they become a mess that looks like spaghetti. With this tutorial, Melissa shares how to put these heddles on a loom and how to rebundle them using a simple technique.

What you should know about weaving shuttles
Thank you. Planning to pick up my drop spindle again soon. I think this is the first video I have seen where the spinner actually stood. Very helpful to demonstrate how to manage. Also like the demonstration of plying from the ball. Thank you.
Wish I had had this video before I put my texsolv heddles on. You make it so clear and easy! Thanks!
Thank you ever so much for showing us newbies how to warp front to back. I have been almost paralyzed with the very thought of warping my Jane loom that I purchased used, last fall. Your explanation and demonstration was the best I have seen so far. Thank you for taking the fear out of the process! God Bless!🥰
We love hearing that! Don't forget to share what you're weaving - we'd love to see it!
The best video I’ve seen. Dressing the loom won’t be so intimidating
Thank you SO much for this video. I am a beginner weaver and weave front to back. This a wonderful and well explained demonstration.
Always good information!
I don’t usually comment, BUT I took Susan’s Beginning Weaving Class and without reservation highly recommend it. I find this video a welcomed review. Thank You Susan 59:44
thank you for the glowing review!
I have a big old Union loom with two shafts and I still manage to cross one or two yarn between the reed and the heddles. I usually thread the reed and heddles at the same time. I am making Lindsey-Woolsey 22inches wide, 12 epi for a total of 264 ends of 10.5 yards long.
Thank you so much for the detail such good information. I just started with my rigid Heddle and there’s so much to learn. Just a sidenote, though what’s the name of the pattern of the sweater Susan is wearing?, that is gorgeous.
Susan said it's a lovely old acrylic sweater from a department store and she doesn't have a pattern, unfortunately. We think someone should whip up the pattern and share it!
Thanks so much! This is a game changer for me.
I have used rigid heddle looms and just got a multi-shaft loom. Obviously, warping is going to be a different process and I've been watching several videos about it. This is the most straight forward instructional video I've seen yet. Thank you so much for making this available.
You are SO welcome!
What to do if it's a knit in the round project like a hat?
Thank you for this video, appreciate the fix it tips in the warp !!
Thank you for doing this detailed video. I warp back to front, so this is interesting. 😊
We love this! We'll be doing more of these, too. Susan is a wealth of knowledge and we want people across the globe to have access to her experience!
I look forward to more of her videos!
There's no sound
you might want to check your settings because we're not having that issue on our end. Please let us know if you keep having issues!
I’ll be there tomorrow😊
You inspired me to get a drop spindle. Thank you , wonderful informative video !
We love hearing that!
Nice job melissa :-)
This was a great video of explaining about different kinds of shuttles. Very informative. Thank you.
I meant to also say that I love the cardigan you knitted in this yarn, where can I get the pattern for it please?
This is the Miles Shirt Jacket and the button band and collar were left unfinished. We also have one with buttons in the shop. It’s a great casual sweater jacket.

@@YarnBarnofKansasLawrence aha! Thank you for the link. I’m in Spain so I’d just want to buy the pattern. As the yarn is made in Spain it would be better to buy it here.
Thank you for this, I used to love knitting with Icelandic lopi and would love to try this yarn. Also I live in Spain and have 4 sheep myself. It’s so good to see the wool from Spanish sheep being appreciated again ❤
how wonderful! Hopefully you're getting to spin with some of that wool. 😁
@ yes indeed! I’ve made a pair of slippers, a pair of socks and 3 crochet mushrooms with wool from them🐑🐑🐑🐑💕💕💕💕 I also use it to stuff cushions and the mushrooms and other soft sculptures I make 😊
This is not new. This is also called pencil roving and has been around since at least the 1970's. It might not have been from sheep raised as she described but it's still the same product in the end. It's nice to see it back but it's not new.
thank you for clarifying! We're big fans of Wool Dreamers and Manchelopis itself.
Thanks for the tour ❤
Wow, you guys have a lot more space than I imagined.
Great explanation! I am used to continental style and was convinced there is only one style for everyone.
Glad you liked it! A lot of people use Continental style, but it all just depends on what's comfortable for you.
Informative! It would be nice to know what shuttles work best for different loom types. I have two rigid heddle looms, I’ve read boat shuttles can also be used with them, so was kind of disappointed there wasn’t more info on that.
Im a beginner and so far English feels more natural to me.
If something feels natural, that's the right one to use!
This is very helpful as I purchased an 8 shaft table loom and wasn't sure which shuttle to get. Just checked out your website and put in an order for a couple boats and some bobbins. Cheers!
I love this store and dream of visiting it one day. In the meantime I will keep ordering.
We hope you make it our way!
Thanks for this video. Super interesting!!
Fun to see! Yarn Barn always fills and ships orders SO FAST! ❤
We also love saying that nearly everyone in the store touches your orders to make sure it's tripled checked and packed with care so you get exactly what you need for your projects.
Thanks!
I'm debating between a big warping board or just using the smaller clamps for my table loom, so this was very helpful! Thank you!
That's great to hear!
I've been trying to figure out which kinds of winders spin the bobbin fastest, so this video was SO helpful! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you for such an in-depth look at shuttles. Just starting my weaving journey and appreciate you sharing. Debs from Down Under
We love hearing that! Please don't hesitate to keep us updated on your journey!
I have two of the end-delivery shuttles I came across somewhere; I think they were thrown in for free with a used loom. They look antique to my uneducated eye, and I never thought much about it. Thank you for this video! I can see how they might offer something different than my 'standard' shuttles.
Thanks! Very helpful 😊
Nice overview, thanks! A weaver can never have too many shuttle options! 😊
Hi Melissa! Just found these-very cool. Great instructor!
We're pretty lucky to have her!
The Pirn shuttle I would think would be adding a lot of twist to the yarn as it comes off the end. Does this ever cause problems?
Great question! Using the end feed shuttles does add or subtract a small amount of twist, depending on the direction in which you wind the pirn compared to the twist of the yarn. The amount of twist is small enough that it is unlikely to cause any trouble. I think the only time I would be concerned would be with a loosely-spun single-ply yarn. Reducing the twist further could lead to yarn that pulls apart too easily. For most plied yarns, however, you wouldn’t notice a difference. The issue isn’t confined to end feed shuttles, however. Winding a traditional bobbin from a stationary cone also adds/subtracts twist but, again, it generally doesn’t cause a problem because the amount of twist added or subtracted is small.
@@YarnBarnofKansasLawrence Ty so very much for your very detailed answer. The question came about because in Bobbin lace we work very hard to avoid adding or removing twist as we wind the bobbins so when I saw how the pirn worked it just clicked that the twist would be changed. Being relatively new to weaving I wondered if I needed to worry about it. Your answer solved that nicely for me. TY again.
@@myrany8407 no problem! We're always happy to answer questions!
Thank you for this! I was struggling to figure out how to close my loom without a second person - this technique worked perfectly.
This is a Kansas treasure and I was lucky to call it one of my lys. I bought yarn last summer on my trip to visit my daughter, I live in Dubai now and the selection is smaller for me here.
I like the flexibility in the width and in the amount of tension!
Very helpful!
Very clear explanations. Thanks!
Thank you! Beautifully explained
This is so cool, i have always wonderd how its done! How long would it take you to make a full skien, because i can imagine its so time consuming!
Hi there! It really depends on the thickness of the yarn and how quickly you spin. Thicker yarns spin faster, thinner yarns take more time.
Thanks for very clear instructions. This would be great for placemats.
Thank you for putting these little lessons up. I am learning SO much.
You're welcome! We truly love helping our customers and fans.
I got millions $$ question! how do I fix the wrong threading yarn that is supposed to be two yarns per reed, on the 24Inch beater 10 EPI (END PER INCH) my mistake is in two places I thread one yarn only🤔. Of course, when I weave it creates a problem with the density of the fabric 🤐I feel, so stupid for not paying attention to it HELP, please 🙏🙏🙏
