Five Silent Shorts - trailer
Over the last year, having no real budget, I started shooting Five Silent Shorts with just me as writer, director, producer, main actor, DOP and editor. And great music from Vũ Đình Trụ. This is the trailer of the 30 minutes total, now on its way to festivals and with a very special screening planned in Belgium, soon in '25. Premiered in Vietnam in Vin Gallery last May, with a very nice audience.

Plants in Pots. The streets of Vietnam are full of them. The return to normal street life after the long lockdown looked like a perfect moment to celebrate those modest potted gems. The love in there. The colours, the vitality and diversity, the pride and the sheer joy. And the fun we had in making this photo-video-pot-rap or whatever you want to call it. I shot, wrote, assembled and voiced it....

Well, feel free to be puzzled... So don't try to look for rational answers or a single 'message'. There's many ways to look at it... Like some dream you wake up from. On the other hand, if you focus on the idea 'What if the Sun Takes a Day Off' then a lot is very simple, I think... ;-)
This film is full of synchronized imagery and sound. Beautifully composed shots. Highly creative and an excellent short film. I’m very impressed by the story, camera and actor direction of this professional film from a first time director. Bravo!

I watched the movie. Quite magical and perceptive of a common man. Very interesting....
It's been a while now, but it was a great pleasure to shoot this short with a wonderful, almost all first-timers-on-this-kind-of-set team in Saigon. I think it's a universal story, but with an undeniably Vietnamese touch and mood to it. It definitely breathes the love of all involved.

I mean you can get many variations of a burger, without having to buy coke, it can be healthy, you can cook it fresh, it's just that most fastfood restaurants aren't meant to be fresh. Also there are many restaurants that the establishment offers burgers that it could be expected from almost any fastfood restaurant that has burgers.

OMG.. 3:23 was such a glad moment for me. I remember 10 years ago when my father was gifted Danise cookie box on Diwali festival. I really enjoyed them but after so many years could not remembered the name. I know they were cookies but didn't know the brand name. The moment I saw 3:23 I felt so grateful and looking forward to order them soon.
Well, these Danish Butter Cookies, - Danise brand and others - are indeed all over Vietnamese pagoda's. Didn't know they were popular for Diwali in India too. Happy to help you remember a nice moment.
