I never knew turkeys could fly until a flock flew right in front of my big rig and narrowly missed hitting one. The mental image of what could have been is disturbing.

I'm a proud MAAM member, been a Tour Guide since 2018. Frankly I get goosebumps when I do my best to decribe the undertaking to retrieve it off the mountain. Picture climbing up Mt. Cyclops, 4700' through dense jungle just get to it. No electricity meant they had to cut it in pieces with hand tools. My first look at the P-61 was about 1996, when only the front section of the fuselage was in a cradle on the floor. My recollection is thinking "how are they going to make an airplane from this?" And here it is today. Amazing.

These S.o.B.s showed up in my yard for the first time this year and there are so many of them and they’re everywhere! I’ve become obsessed and have waged full blown war on em. However, for the life of me, I cannot find any of their eggs. I have looked everywhere but nothing. Thought maybe they just haven’t laid eggs yet but I caught some nymphs over the past couple of days. Most annoying insect of all time

The concrete ties are about 1,000 pounds each compared to about 200 for wood ties. Amtrak says the concrete ties in this region are expected to last 60 years compared to 25 years for wood ties. This $122 million project is installing 113,000 concrete ties and cleaning/renewing 226,500 feet of gravel ballast on 43 miles of track between Lancaster and Harrisburg, Pa

I worked as an inspector on the Northeast Corridor Improvement Project with a contract undercutter in 1978. On August 24 we were working in Slocum, RI just south of Exeter Rd when one of the workers fell into the cutter blade doing what the worker at 0:50 is doing. He was killed instantly, only 22 years old. After that safety "shut-off " devices were added like you see here. The company was removed from the contract and soon disappeared.

You would think they could have a machine do this work tightening the clips down, but i guess that means less manpower and no jobs, but plenty of guys watching them work. Crew chiefs i guess

The TLS work group has already removed the wood ties and old rail and installed the new concrete ties and new rail in front of the Undercutter. The undercutter comes behind and cuts it deeper removing the broken down over time spoils or dirt and dust you could call it and the machine shakes out any reusable clean ballast and disperses them back into the track. The spoils go into the hoppers and get fed to the most forward hopper and then cast off along the tracks to be used for access roads.

Maybe they are and I can't see it.

You would think as loud as that machine is that guys would be wearing ear protection.

So they are vacuuming up the old rock and then laying down new rock to stabilize the track.

Why is Amtrak doing this work? Isn't it the track owners job to tend to there own tracks? Maybe Smtrak owns this stretch of rail. They do own there own track in some areas.

So this machine is not doing anything with the ties, just the rock around the tracks.

great video mate - looks like new equipment or its dosent get used much..lol how many miles does Amtrak have to maintain??

It would be much more interesting if the viewer were able to see what is going on between the rails. Even a narration of exactly what the machine is doing would be helpful for everyone. The camera does not see into the shadows very well. Looks like it picks up the ballast and shakes it then puts it back down?
