Alterior Motives with Carrie
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 เม.ย. 2016
I'm a Junk Journaler who loves playing with paper of all sorts. I used to make Altered Books and still make Artist Trading Cards. I also love stitching, especially hand stitching small things, and love doing swaps with other fabric obsessed artists. I kind of go in spurts where I do lots of stitching and then lots of paper crafts. I also do videos on crochet, stamp carving, upcycling, and my newest series is The Reading Life, where I review books because I read a lot and have a variety of interests.
#ThriftyThursday Patchwork & Mosaic Crochet
Several different patchwork-type projects I worked on at a recent craft retreat, after a fruitful thrift shop trip. Also goodies I bought at a local Wisconsin small town, and a crochet project I’ve been wanting to do for a while finally comes to life.

I know, I’m not showing my face like I did in the first two videos in this series. I thought it would be more useful for you to see the arwork in the books, since they’re all graphic novels. Add A Crochet Fringe To Your Jeans

I’ve been getting into textile upcycling more lately, which can mean anything from deconstructing a garment to make something new to decorating a garment to sort of renew it, give it new life. So I got this pair of jeans from the thrift store, and decided to add crochet fringe to the hems of the legs. I walk you through it step by step so you can do it too! Thanks for watching!

How long does it take to dry
I'm not exactly sure since I just left it to dry overnight. I am guessing it would be fine after a couple hours though. Thanks for watching!
That looks like a fun kit Carrie and SNAP!! I have a very similar glamorous pair of magnifying googles, very handy when making jewellery and miniatures. I need a mug like that for my black coffee!! :)
Glamorous--HA!! Thanks for watching, Annie!!
Love that Looney Tunes cross stitch kit ❤. Awesome!!
Well now that makes sense, that Kooky would love Looney!! HA! Thanks for watching!
Love the snoopy mug. Do the glasses gve you headaches carrie?
Well of course you do! I thought of you when I was at the exhibit. So fun, they had drawing tables to sit at and trace some of the characters. But to answer your question, NO I do not get headaches from wearing the VisionAid contraption. I might if the strap was too tight but I keep it pretty loose. I hope that helps.
I absolutely love ❤️ Snoopy. I have low vision for Valentines my Ma Karen got me a heart braille lettered one with I love you in braille. What a sweet cup ❤❤ Looney Toons mean alot to me. They have so many good memories from my childhood. Peope Le Pu and Sylvester and Tweety and Road Runner Beep Beep lol So sweet you love them too.
Oh yay! I have a lot of Snoopy fabric, I might hafta send you a piece! I've been hoarding it and not using it but it needs to taken out and loved! That's so sweet, the braille heart. Yes, I learned a lot of classical music from Looney Tunes, one of the many reasons I love it to this day.
I love Snoopy. That mug is huge!
Well that makes sense to me that you would love Snoopy! I know, I'll probably need a forklift to lift it once I fill it!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
this is so cute! i’m thinking about adding a lace trim to the collar of a denim jacket now 🤔
I think that would be really fun!! Thanks for watching!
Oooooh so much crochet goodness going on at once Carrie - I'm the same, I have three crochet projects on the go right now, depends on what mood you're in doens't it? :) Love the moth wow! Also love Tuula and of course I luuuurve yer snarf!! :)
Thanks, Annie! I appreciate the support!
When you just play with no expectations, it's amazing what we can create, pretty and fun ❤
I agree! I don't do it enough, I think it is one of my goals this year to play like this more.
You did a great job with these Carrie and I love how you play and enjoy what you’re doing. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
Aw thanks Christine!
Im on round 33 with a ton of extra stitches somehow. The instructions dont give you final stitch counts for each row so this has been the most maddening project for e, an experienced crocheter.
I agree, I don't like that you have to exactly match everything the designer does in the videos to get it right. I personally got stuck when I realized I hadn't been paying attention to the gauge, because all the blankets I've made in the past the gauge didn't matter. Ugh. I agree about final stitch counts, too. Those should be given every round.
Great carrie
Thanks, glad you liked it!
So cute Carrie.
Thank you!!
I’m enjoying your video. About the McGill punches, they very uncomfortable to cut shapes. I as well like the grey one too. .?..Where did you find those tag wooden chip? I have found the circle n square wooden chip but not the little tag. Thank you for sharing video.
I do not remember where I got the wooden tags, probably a craft store like Micheals or even one of those discount Chinese companies like Temu.
Lovely base drawing Carrie and really interesting seeing how you reworked it. Would also make a great stitchery. Cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
That's a brilliant idea! Why did I not think of that? I'd have to do simpler zentangle patterns inside the hair but that could be really cool!! Thanks, Christine!!
cool :>
What a cool idea Carrie, I hadn't thought of doing that for my swaps, I reckon you could also try leaving it the original size but cut pieces from it to give you abstract designs, that could work too. Your swaps squares look brilliant, your Swapsters will be thrilled with them :)
So pretty ❤
Thanks! I do love Zentangles, such a great way to fill up a space.
The watercolor set you got is kind of geared towards kids, but I have a similar one and while they're kind of chalky, the colors are really pretty and it's fun to play with. 😊
Hi Nancy, yeah it kinda looks like it's for kids but I don't mind. I don't paint enough yet to really justify buying super fancy paints. Unless they're sparkly, then I will always buy them!
Ooo so many goodies. That book is so cool 😍 Looking forward to seeing what you create 😊
Thanks, Gaby! I am excited about using that book, too!
ooooh Carrie how lovely!! wonderful swaps from Tori and what a fabulous package of goodness from Shirley too - huge thanks again to Shirley for donating such a lovely prize for the giveaway xo
Thanks, Annie! Yes, they were both lovely surprises in the mail!
I’m so happy that you enjoyed the swap square and the art piece :) much love and hugs ❤. Your stitching piece is fabulous! ❤
Yes, I love them!! Aw thanks for saying that about my stitching.
Sorry to hear you weren’t having a good day but happy these packages brought you cheer. Lovely work from Tori and such a sweet happy mail from Shirley. Yay to Annie for the amazing community she has grown 🤗💛 cheers, Christine 💙🧵🪡
Yes, agreed, Annie has created a fabulous community and I'm so happy to be part of it!
Tori does beautiful paintings , and your winning gift is beautiful too ❤
Yes she does!! Yeah, what a generous gift package! And I love how she made it all in the same colorway so it all goes together beautifully!
Lovely colourful swaps from Tori and your stitch square is looking great. Wow what a beautiful assortment of stitchery goodies from lovely Shirley. Thank you for sharing xx 💐

New subscriber found you from Discord. Hello nice to hear your voice. Wow your squares are so amazing, such detail and tiny stitches. Oh my the square that was the same as the card amazing, such a great swap. Love the suffic puffs too. Need to learn how to make those. Such a great video thank you for sharing your link with us.
Gorgeousness
Hi Carrie. I gave up on sleep and watched your video. I love your squares! Thank you for sharing.
New subscriber here after seeing your post on Discord - love seeing the swap squares! Well done getting back on the video making wagon - I love sharing videos too 🤗
Hi Carrie, Loved seeing the stitch swaps you’ve been doing and also the ones you have received, just gorgeous thank you for sharing. x 💐
Thanks so much for the review! I decided to learn how to crochet by ordering this kit and I'm glad to see it's legit by finding your review! I just ordered and I cant wait, it's so beautiful! How did your project turn out?
Did it come with the stich counters? I'm new to crochet, so that looked very helpful! I'm thinking I should pick those up before starting if they don't come with. Also....your little furry friend was VERY cute!
Sorry I've been AWOL! I haven't actually finished this project. I didn't pay attention to the gauge when I started and that was a mistake! I got to a certain point, the round where you make a bunch of little individual flowers and then attach them to the main blanket, and mine were not the right size so they weren't going to fit, and I gave up there. I've thought about going back and starting over and doing the gauge right but it was too daunting and I just haven't gone back to it. Sorry! I hope yours turns out better, just pay attention to gauge!!
One way to lessen the diamond glaze products is to avoid shaking the bottle. To get the glaze to the tip of the bottle simply tap the upside-down bottle on the table before use. I always squeeze out a teensy bit onto paper or toweling or anything really, before I actually squeeze onto the project. It seems to get rid of that initial blop of air and glaze on something other than my project. Love your dangles (I have the same mushroom digital)!
Thanks, that's a good reminder. But I gotta say, using Triple Thick is sooooo much easier, it's just so much less fussy than Diamond Glaze.
You popped into my brain today so I wanted to stop in and say hello and see how you are doing :)
This was fabulous! New to you. So glad I found your channel. Thank you for sharing.
Aw, thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
New to your channel, Im from Canada B.C.
Welcome!! Thanks for subscribing, I hope you enjoy it!
What are you making with this block it’s so pretty, it reminds me of crazy quilting.
Sorry for the late reply, I've been on vacation. I follow a YTer named Roxy Creations and she's done several series' making little fabric books. She and her sister plan it out and then come up with overall themes and themes for each page.
Hello Carrie , New Sub you can also dome them with JDiction UV Resin and also add glitter make it translucent to make it PoP !!!
Thanks for subscribing! Thanks for the tip! I haven't really worked with resin yet but I want to.
triple thick is awesome you will love it
Only thing I don't like about triple thick is the price. It's very expensive.
YES! I do love it. I don't think it's more expensive than that other Diamond whatsit stuff I was using, and no bubbles!! I am definitely a believer in Triple Thick now.
@@alteriormotiveswithcarrie8546 yes I use it myself. I don't know the diamond stuff. For my pocket it's expensive. Let me rather put it that way. Lol.
Moloch?
??
❤❤❤❤❤ nice
Aw thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
❤❤❤❤
Not sure about round 18, my boss gave me this bag full of kits and I can't access the tutorials
Oh wow I don't know if I'd have been able to figure out some of these stitches without the videos! I wish you luck!
I'm a lefty too and knit and crochet right handed
Yeah I think it's because I initially learned crochet from my mom and she was right handed so she taught me right handed. I'm a little bit ambidextrous.
Oh nooo. I hope you are feeling better. Congratulations on 500!
Thank you!! And thanks for watching.
