I like to fix things or restore them. On this channel, I work with O Gauge trains, DieCast cars and trucks and occasionally some woodworking or home improvement projects. I also like editing and creating graphics for my videos so you’ll see some of that too. Thanks, Bob
Lionel Mickey's World Tour Disney 1992 Train Set Goofy Operating Car, Gondola & Caboose
Not everything from Lionel and Disney is guaranteed to increase in value. I believed otherwise in 1992 so I bought a brand new, MICKEY'S WORLD TOUR train set and never opened it. The value has not increased very much, if at all. Was it a good investment or should I have opened it up and run it 34 years ago?

Combine the two and you're almost guaranteed to have a really nice vacation. The best place to stay, in my humble opinion, are The LIDO DORSET Condos just across from Lido Beach. Lionel introduced The Mickey Mouse Express in 1977. The following year happened to be the 50th anniversary of Mickey Mouse's grand entrance into American pop culture. Steamboat Willie came out in 1928 so for 1978, Lionel offered an uncatalogued boxcar to commemorate the event. They've gotten pretty expensive so I decided to make my own.

Lionel introduced The Mickey Mouse Express in 1977. What began with a diesel locomotive, caboose and 3 boxcars grew exponentially over the years. One item they left out was a boxcar featuring Disney's 101 Dalmatians. So I found a Hi-Cube boxcar and painted the sides white. In this video, I'll show you all of the steps, including the paint and custom inkjet decals.

Very nice work on making these Disney cars. The original 50th Mickey birthday car was a dealer's only gift. /any Lionel dealer who ordered so much got the 50 mickey box car for free. When I heard that these cars were out I called a lot of train stores and found one that had the car. They apparently did not realize the value of the car and solid to me for about 10 bucks. I later bought the set that it was to be used with and still have them both. Be careful duplicating these cars as that might be against copyright, etc laws. You should put a label on the bottom stating that it is a repro. TCA has such labels available. You are really a craftsman. I love your work.
There's a little kid inside all of us...the grin on your face is proof. No regrets ! 😄
Thanks Jim. 😀
Great stuff Bob.
Thanks Hunter!
Tough choice but you did good. I wouldn't open it either.
@@joeystrains.9316 someday I’ll open it.
Yes, do not open the box. Were there any tell-tale assembly parts packed inside the brown cardboard box? If not, try to locate the Lionel tell-tale parts assembly. For everyone to know, the Goofy train car is made the same as the operating giraffe car. The tell-tale parts will make Goofy bob his head up and down through the boxcar roof as Goofy approaches the tell-tale. The link is for everyone to see the parts required to activate the giraffe. th-cam.com/video/KxNDIP6qvzc/w-d-xo.html And this one th-cam.com/video/8fMSmuNxMlY/w-d-xo.html The detail is in the uprighted sheet metal attached to the base and track.

Let your grand children play with it.

Hi Bob, Finding a mint and unopened Mickey's World Tour is rare to find. And with shipping costs totaling $31.08, it is an unbeatable value! And it's great that you found a set to operate. You'll only need a tel-tail and tel-tail metal assembly to activate Goofy to go up and down. Understandably, you do not care about the yellow boxcar. However, my preference is that I would be okay with it because the graphics are easy to see. I saw a set at a train show, and there was a red-colored stock car with the same shell molding as the giraffe car. The Mickey World Tour emblem logo was applied to the small flat area of the stock car where the Bronx Zoo identification is stamped. And if my recollection serves me right, inside there may have been the animated goofy. The loco, tender, and train cars were in a brown cardboard box. The seller mentioned that it was a mail-in promotional set. The seller was asking $75.00.
Hi. The unopened one, I bought new over 30 years ago. I recently found a used set on eBay that cost about 31 bucks with shipping. That’s the one that I was running in the video. The unopened one is still unopened and packed away once again. 😀
What a great running set! Great video! Thanks from r sharing! Cbtrainnut! Chris

Thanks Bob for showing us your new purchase. I understand how you feel about not opening the sealed set for your girls. If they have younger children maybe giving them the sets so grandchildren and you; grandpa can play with them.

@@bobsworkshop5181 wish I could see and play with my three grandchildren, but they live in Buffalo NY and we never get to see them.😭😭
Great price. Sorry to hear about the regret. I try to tell people to enjoy the trains when they buy them. As nice as it is to have a NIB older train, these are made to be enjoyed. Great video!
I’ll open it up when I have a grandkid. That would be cool. Thanks for watching. 😀
The best thing about that set was the price and Disney theming. The down is that was the bottom of Lionel being cheap. But my brother is a huge Disney collector so I may need to keep an eye out for one.....in that price range!!! thx
It is pretty cheap but the DC operation was kinda fun. Kids would have a great time with it.
@@bobsworkshop5181 Bob - Since Lionel started producing the DC O27 gauge sets in the 1970s, there may have been modelers who bought DC sets over the years and now collect only the DC sets and locomotives.
What a great set and price. It’s nice that you left the other one sealed after all these years. I didn’t let my sons play with their train sets. I regret as well! Hi. My printer is at least ten years old. It’s an HP 2600 I think. It does an okay job. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful Bob.! Blast from the past.! Thanks for taking us along.! 👍
Thanks Mark. How was the air show?
@@bobsworkshop5181 It was very crowded and I had a hard time finding a camping spot. Fortunately I stumbled on a spot after 11pm and was very relieved. About the same time a bird somehow got into my train room at home and messed up a lot of my trees and scenery. Caught him on my security camera flying around. Very weird and nothing I could do 140 miles away. The next day air show was really nice and probably the best weather since I have been going in the late 80s. Absolutely beautiful.! Got to see a B-52 and a British Lancaster for the first time so that was very cool. Not sure what I’m going to do about the train yet. Fix it or pack it up and get ready to hopefully move soon? I really want to get out of the small expensive apartment. I sure hope so and get on with my life. Thanks for asking Bob 😊 Have a great week.!👍🏻

I guess Trainz thinks shoppers don’t compare prices? If that their thought process then it’s flawed!
I buy a lot of older Lionel stuff from Trainz.com. And I’ve found good deals
I have bought and still buy some things from Trainz. There was a time when there were deals to be had but that's few and far between now. If the Menard's items are marked up that much at Trainz just imagine how much the Locomotives and rolling stock that aren't readily available elsewhere are marked up. Each time I purchase from Trainz I feel like I am paying a premium price for whatever I get. There are times when I am willing to pay that premium but I'm never happy about it.
I still like Trainz
Neat comparison Bob.
Thanks for watching it and thanks for taking the time to comment on the video. I really appreciate it. 🇺🇸
Very cool replica Bob.
Thanks Hunter. 👍🏻😀
Bob, Thanks Again for sharing as always. You are quite the creative guy! 👍👍👍🙏💪❤️🇺🇸
@@RABSTRAINS well, thanks very much!
It's important to understand that Trainz gradually decreases their price as the item sits, and items often start higher than market, then gradually decrease. I've gotten many good deals on trainz, but you need to be patient and let the inventory age long enough for the price to fall. In some cases, people will have a higher threshold than you. You need to know what you're buying and check prices.
Believe me, I’m pretty good at checking prices and shop a lot at Trainz.com. 👍🏻
@bobsworkshop5181 I figured.. I just wanted to mention the odd pricing ladder for those that migjt not be familiar. I think it's an interesting business model, as it rewards patient customers who price check but also let's them get top dollar from people who might not be worried about price.
