vlog series: chinese new year | part 3: lockdowns, anxiety, going home
PLEASE DO READ THE DESCRIPTION TO THE END
hello again friends! this is the end of our mini vlog series. but why? chinese new year break should've been a week long? are you guys moving apartments? are you tired? the answer is simply, coronavirus has totally yeeted us out of china. our school made the difficult decision to get international students back to their countries or at least a safe place whether that be remaining with their host families or going elsewhere that would not be too much of a financial impediment. while chinese students stayed with their families. in mere hours we had to grab what we had and leave, as the fear of cities going on lockdown began to intensify, which could have ultimately left us stuck or trapped. it was a matter of safety and care and now we wait to see what will happen. so here is the grand scheme of things:
✰ corona virus intensifies
✰ we have to leave the apartment
✰ we can't go back to school and get anything
✰ we find half the student body at the airport
its been a rollercoaster. i miss my little family dynamic with the girls i now consider to be like sisters in our little hime in kunshan, and its a shame our time was cut short. i'm praying everyday that everyone I know with in and out of china is healthy and safe as many are still travelling. i miss all my friends from uwc changshu (my csc family) and hope you're all thriving. and hey! and you can help too! scroll down to see how you can do your part.
spread love and kindness.

HELP WUHAN:
Students from 17 UWCs across the world aim to help improve sanitary conditions for doctors who are saving lives and stopping the epidemic from spreading. Through uniting forces of UWC students and alums, we aim to fundraise and purchase over 10, 000 respiratory masks and send them directly to medical staff in Hubei Province. We have raised over 60,000RMB/8,650USD/79,000NOK domestically so far and now we are reaching out for more help. Your support means a lot to us.
We will ensure every dollar you donate will go directly to medical staff in the frontline, for their better working conditions and ultimately better control of the virus outbreak.
A list of the institutions that will benefit from our project is listed below:
Huangmei People’s Hospital(黄梅县人民医院)
The Central hospital in Ezhou City(鄂州市中心医院)
Xishui People‘s Hospital(浠水县人民医院)

FAQs
✰ Where are you from?
I'm from Botswana, but I was born in South Africa and have lived exactly half of my life in each country, so I identify with both nationalities and cultures.
✰ Why are you in China?
In 2018 I got an amazing scholarship opportunity to study at a UWC school (United World College). This is a group of 17 schools that aim to bring people from more than 100 countries to their institutions to study the IB (international baccalaureate) for peace and a sustainable future. My national committee believed China would be the best fit for me, and I've loved it since my feet first touched down at csc. The selection process is different for different countries. To learn more you can check it out here: www.uwc.org
✰ What camera do you use?
In my older videos I only used my iPhone 6s at the time, and then my iPhone 8 plus. I'm a student leader for our media team so sometimes I'd borrow the odd camera or two. Now, I shoot using my new canon T7i which I got off of Amazon.
✰ What do you edit with?

VIRGINITY ROCKSSS💗💗
Hey I have a doubt can you get out of the school? What do you do on weekends? I would be really thankful if somebody answer me. 😁
hey, im wondering if theres alot of stress in uwc compare to high schools in the us
absolutely
Are you South African ?
I'm from Botswana but i was born in and grew up in South Africa
Hey. I'm African and I'd like to know, where did you get your hair done from while you were in China?
Hey queen! Before going to school I would get my braids done at home - and then while at school there were other Africans and Afro-Caribbean‘s who knew how to do hair that would help me and do some of my braids. Other times I would invest in a couple of wigs or learn to take care of my natural hair myself :)
Don't you get like a room in Shangha
See you in August
Can we go here through CSC scholarship?
王博文!哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈
Hiii, how do you maintain your hair in braids and such? Do you get them done or do you do them by yourself every couple months?
Hey! I'll be doing an updates and QnA video soon since graduating to answer all these questions!

I’m so jealous我酸了
为什么?😂😂😂
@@iwaniatcsc2597 because your school is fabulous most of chinese students just doing puzzles the whole day until late night, and that's really tiring.

Я ТОЖЕ.
Hey Iwani😊❣love from Zimbabwe, if you ever pass by please let me know😊I'm going to UWC this year🙂. Are you planning to go to Stanford?
congrats on UWC! its been such an amazing experience! Which campus are you going to? And as for Stanford, a girl can only hope ❤️
@@iwaniatcsc2597 all the best with Stanford xxx but I'm sure you'll shine no matter where you go. I'm going to Robert bosch college 😊
I really like
In my opinion this is my favorite vlog because it’s the happiest and while the situation with the coronavirus epidemic is unfortunate, I think it's the the most hilarious of the series
Nice!
Are you having a break or anything because I am confused why you can leave now? Im going to UWC Changshu next year so Im curious about the real situation out there in China.
Linh Nguyễn Don’t fear! UWC Changshu is amazing and one of the best and equally challenging experiences for me. The school and staff care so much for us as students they really feel like family - the community is so close and you’ll never find anything like it. Right now everyone has returned back to their home countries or sought safe haven elsewhere and we are all safe. The school has made sure to assist any and everyone and has done multiple checkups on us. Even before we left for the Chinese New Year break they helped us all get masks. We are going to do our classes online until we are issued a return date back to campus. All in all it’s a tough place for any school or individual to be in but they have done the above and beyond and hopefully we’ll be back soon ❤️
China has become my home, it’s people have been so kind to me, and I’ll forever be grateful for everything.
We had to leave because the 2019-nCov or corona virus was declared a public health emergency, and the school took the necessary precautions to protect us as students and move us far away from the issue. Of course now it’s a global emergency, but many Chinese public schools also had to close as a result so the school in essence was simply following chinese school protocol
@@iwaniatcsc2597 Thank you so much for the information. Hope all of you come back home safe and can be back to campus soon ❤. I will pray the best for all the people affected by this epidemic.
@@iwaniatcsc2597 Also I'm sorry for not reading the description before asking the question. I was so worried :((
I love this, and I really like how you filmed it! coincidentally I just posted a week in my life at uwccr, seems quite different :) oh and I hope you're safe, either at home or wherever you went, I heard everyone was evacuated because of the virus ❤❤
Thank you! Ah I'm gonna subscribe and watch it right now - and yes I am home and safe thank you! If you watch my chinese new year vlogs (the last part chronicles everyone having to quick travel home comes out tonight) you'll see the situation for us UWCCSC students first hand. sending much love ❤️
