Clinical Guidance App for Management of Genetic Aortic Disorders
Hosted by GADA Canada and the John Ritter Foundation, this clinical webinar highlights a newly published Genomic Medicine Guidance app developed by UTHealth. The app is designed to enable clinicians to use this resource as a decision support tool and share information easier with patients.
The app is developed with a goal to integrate easy access to gene-based management for heritable aortic disorders in clinical practice and improve recognition and treatment of patients. For patients, consider sharing this app with your physicians to help empower your specialized care. You must have been genetically diagnosed and know your diagnosis.
Genetic testing for heritable aortic disorders is essential, to determine personal and family risks for life-threatening aortic dissections and to guide the management of associated complications.
Dr. Siddharth Prakash, Cardiologist, UTHealth, and Dr. David Murdock, Clinical Geneticist, UTHealth, presents the current version of the Genomic Medicine Guidance app and their visions to use the app for research to expand the spectrum of genetic variants causing heritable aortic disorders and to integrate facial recognition in the app for improved management.
The genetic information in the app was sourced from the GADA-funded Montalcino Aortic Consortium registry and the NIH genetic repositories ClinVar and ClinGen.

Where do you test to see if you have the genetic mutation? I just found out I have an ascending aortic aneurysm of 4.1 cm and my mom had several aneurysms in her brain but she died from cancer. My grandmother had aneurysms in her lungs but she died of old age. My grandfather dropped dead at 48 of a heart attack. My brother has a heart murmur. Lastly my grandson was born with a reverse aortic artery and he had pulmonary hypertension. He passed away at 2.5 mos and we are heartbroken. Thank you for any help to further protect myself and my family and offspring.

My husband recently( October 2022)had surgery for a Type A & Type B Aortic Dissection, Aortic Valve replacement & repair for a right Coronary Dissection at Barts Hospital in London, England. After the surgery, bloods were taken and sent to the Genetics dept at the hospital. It was found that my husband had ACTA2 gene c.1019_1020del mutation. My question is, are certain ethnic groups more at risk from this condition? My husband is Ashkenazi Jewish, whilst I am Sephardi Jewish( Moroccan/ Algerian). Just like the Genetic condition Tay Sachs is more common amongst Ashkenazi Jews, is the ACTA2 gene also more common amongst certain groups?

My brother had a type A dissection 3 years ago. He just had another surgery to replace his heart valve. We are of Irish and Swedish descent. Both surgeries were a success. I had to get genetic testing as well to see if I have the same mutation. Thankfully, I do not. I will be praying for you and your husband. This mutation is terrifying
