Run Away from Home!
มุมมอง 26วันที่ผ่านมา
Karin is back! While Kyle is in Berlin and Karin prepares for Pikes Peak, it is time to talk about what it takes to run those races away from the lands you know and love. Not every race is created equal and not every course will be like what you've trained on. Karin breaks down the science behind preparing for a race in a climate you may not be familiar with. And yup, she's bringing the science...
Berlin Marathon Preview
มุมมอง 3314 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is it. It's over. The last weekend of racing before Berlin is in the books. Nothing left to do now but board a plane, fly half way around the world, and run our first Interntational Marathon! This week we'll talk about our two races. The Corporate Challenge 5k (that didn't exactly go as planned) and the second year of the Boulevard 10k. After that, we'll throw a little Berlin Marathon hist...
Stick Em Up!
มุมมอง 4221 วันที่ผ่านมา
Everyone Freeze! This is a stick up! Don't anybody move! Thinking Toy Story aren't you? Well you should be. This week we are taking the law into our own hands. We are dealing with an issue that is always on the underbelly of the running world. That being Bandits! Yes, there are bandits among us, but they aren't wearing bandanas and holding up steam locomotives. They are running races that maybe...
Haters Gonna Hate!
มุมมอง 47หลายเดือนก่อน
We're flying through September! This week is a classic stop for us. We had two races, one of which being the famous and fourteen year old Plaza 10k. Saturday we ran a new race. The Pathway to Parenthood 5k which was a great morning. This week we're going to talk about the hatred in the running world. It's silly, but unfortunately it's a thing. So be ready to look at others, but also take a peak...
Deep Dive: 2018 Chicago Marathon
มุมมอง 33หลายเดือนก่อน
We have a couple of quick race reviews including our 300th race! The bulk of this show is a listener requested deep dive into the Chicago Marathon. We did this race back in 2018. This was the first World Marathon Major we had ever done, so it was a deer in headlights kind of trip for us! We'll talk about everything that we can recall from this trip six years ago. Hopefully it will help out all ...
Pick 'em!
มุมมอง 41หลายเดือนก่อน
Another weekend down and a new race in the books. We were at the Summer Sizzle 15k. Yes, a 15k. We're going to break the race down. Then we are going to tackle a listener requested topic. We'll talk about races and how we pick them. How do you pick the races you run. Sometimes it's a no brainer, but sometimes it can actually be due to a number of factors. Let's discuss! #run #backofthepackpodca...
August Reviews
มุมมอง 41หลายเดือนก่อน
We were falling a little behind on race reviews, so we are getting caught up today! We've had three great races all in a row. Let's talk about them. We ran the Run to Bless 5k, Rexy Run 5k, and Hearts for RMHC 10k recently. We got to see most of you there! Let's break them down and then look at what's coming up for all of us race addicts! For additional coverage of these races, go check out @Th...

Discipline
มุมมอง 1292 หลายเดือนก่อน
A picture is worth a thousand words. In host Kyle's case, two pictures were worth a thousand curse words! Like so many of us, we are struggling to make it through this summer training season enroute to our Fall races. We are struggling with that one dirty little word, Discipline! We have to call it what it is and then adjust to the issue. Let's talk about it. Openly and honestly with still some...
July Hot Wrap!
มุมมอง 482 หลายเดือนก่อน
Just your friendly neighborhood host this week. Flying solo after all of our wonderful guests! Let's catch up a bit on a wild July. We've had races, trips, vacations, special causes, and of course....that Midwest heat. Hell on Gravel
มุมมอง 653 หลายเดือนก่อน
We have not one but two special guests in this week! We welcome Kody and William both back for this weeks episode. The three of us went to El Dorado, Kansas for the Hell on Gravel half marathon. Definitely a new experience for this road racer. Our first trip to an "Ultra" though was a ton of fun! We're going to talk all about it and hear from our guests on their experiences as well. #backofthep...
Imposter Syndrome
มุมมอง 643 หลายเดือนก่อน
This week we cover our most favorite topic. A listener requested topic! We opened the floor up to our Facebook page to see what folks had on their minds, and came up with this weeks episode. We're not all elite level. We don't all have that runners physique. Does that make us any less of a runner? Nope! Let's talk about impostor syndrome and how that relates to the running world. #run #podcast ...
Great episode and lot's of great information for anyone doing Berlin! You, Kody and Melinda did awesome!!!
I'm late to the party (as usual) but hope you had a blast Kyle, on and off the course.
If we all just ran the race and started 10meters late and quit ten meters early, then claim "well we didn't run the whole race, I just happened to be there, and I didn't take any of the SWAG..." before long we'd have no races to join.
You're so supportive of everybody! This is madness. I'm sorry you're going through....whatever this is that you're going through. You still rock in my book.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Perfect info - Needed this
So glad you found it helpful!!
Good luck. Can’t wait for photos, videos and race report!!
Love the history about the Berlin marathon. Great show!
Good luck in Berlin! I can't wait for that post-race episode!!
Love this episode.
I'm signed up for the half. It's my first race, been training 6 months. I'm ready 🫡
Love it!!! We'll see you there! Stop by The Back of the Pack Podcast booth at the Expo! You'll crush this race!
As an RD for mostly trail races, our permits are based on trail impact and our capacity is watched closely.
Great job on your AG. English Landing Park is always more difficult to run than I expect. No hate here, I even cheer on the walkers. It's a shame women can't run without being harrassed and assaulted.
The specific points and reasons are great reminders we all need to hear from time to time! Another great episode!!
Good episode. Banditing is theft for sure. I called out a bandit after a race a few years ago-really went after them-kind of regret my actions.
Really interesting!
❤
Really enjoyed listening to this episode on my run tonight. Great topic. Made me really think. To those that have a beef with Kyle…..go pound sand people. Kyle is an inspiration to many of us. Go complain about someone else. We all have his back!!
The Indy 5k and Half Marathon combo indy (Mega Mini Challenge) was amazing! I can't recommend it enough. Probably the best energy outside of any race I've been to outside of Tough Ruck Boston maybe. Certainly much larger. I'm going back in 2026 for their anniversary run. Tell Lydia Jason sent you if you go. She's great people.
That race was surprisingly fun despite the humidity and pollen count being atrocious. Loved the course (most of it) and the non-standard length. The medals was SUPER cute, too. You'll see me there next year for sure.
That was super informative. THanks for sharing
Luckily I've avoided imposter syndrome, though many people probably think I should have it. That said, as a permanent back of the packer, I'm never going to get mistaken for the gazelle. I lean into it. I'm good with it. There's usually somebody behind me. Very rarely have I been the absolute last place in a race (DFL), but I do have three medals from races where I was, in fact, DFL. I still beat all the people that stayed home, and I beat every version of me that gave up along the way. My very first half marathon was DFL, and I still remember that race fondly and talk about it with my buddies. That medal is hanging beside my unicorn. You deserve to be there. Whoever you are, and I'm honored to be on the course with you.
The Bodies response....you said it's in the comments of the Double Half Weekend! video, yes? I don't see it in there. Interested in what they had to say about that dumpster fire.
Their response was on Facebook. Not the TH-cam video. Sorry, I definitely should have been more clear on that. lol!
What is that black medal with black ribbon with colored blocks on it? That thing is gorgeous. In other news, why is there not a good search engine for race series? I-35 Challenge, Route 66, Capital City Challenge, Oklahoma Standard Challenge, Hometown Half Series (Not the Bodies one), Indy Greatest Spectacle...that sort of thing? Additional motivation and accountability when you have to go to multiple races. I'm the only guy that seems to like that course. I've done it 4 or 5 times, but WOW was this iteration went over like a turd in the punchbowl.
I do believe the medal you're asking about is the Fargo Marathon medal we did back in June. This as their 20th anniversary medal for the Full Marathon. :)
"Yes!" on ELP from me. Two laps down there sucks the dog part section is loose and slow compared to the rest. The asymmetric out and back is where it's at!
I ran the Summer Sizzler 15K in Des Moines and the 3 out and backs were fun! Lots of people cheering all the 10K and 15K'ers on! I will definitely run it again next year! The Back of the Pack new merch looks great!!
I signed up for the 5K-9 race in De Soto. You can add a Paw-ticipant Medal at no cost. I was wondering what happened to you at Head for the Cure, since we had spoken about the race at Summer Sizzler. The Great Santa Run is supposed to happen, but the date and location has not been confirmed.
According to my watch, the 5k water station was at mile 2.22. It was too long to go without a drink, especially in August.
Yeah I felt like the 8k could have used more water. I carried my own and I needed it, but I'm still always cognizant of where the water stations are.
As a DM pacer for several years, I can tell you it’s not totally flat. There are a few bumps, but very doable right after KC. Plus, DM puts on one heck of an after party! Try it Kyle, you’re way tougher than you think. Plus, Zombie Burger for a post-KC, pre-DM meal? Winning!
Great episode. Felt like it was a personal pep talk that myself(and others) needed greatly. I’ve started really working on my diet as I too have gained weight. Keeping track of my food so I have to account for what I eat. Discipline!!!!
Thank you for doing this episode! It is so nice to know that I am not the only one riding the struggle bus right now!!
Loved this topic ! Definitely needed this one ! You seem to be reading a lot of our minds 😂😂 but in all seriousness thank you for this one !
What a great topic that we all need to hear! Thanks for another great episode Kyle. You seem to always hit on what I need to hear that day.
Great episode Kyle. I hit this same point about two months ago. I just hit a wall where I was plateauing and not seeing improvements and feeling chubbier, etc. I have been dialed in recently, but it's easy to get lackadaisical in comfort.
I’ll see you at rexy! Great episode!
I agree about out and back, does break up things when they turn and pass us lol can’t cheer those elite on from the back so when they pass can cheer them on ! 🎉
Best time to run I'm the summer is the hottest part of the day!
@@kdyke28 you crazy!
Thank you for all this information and the meaning behind Baby Jays Legacy of Hope. This is why we LOVE the KC Running community - almost all of the races are connected to non-profits and make running that more meaningful!! Can't wait to run Rexy Run again this year - hoping for another painted canvas age group award this year :)
Congratulations to all of you finishing this race. Another HARD EARNED MEDAL (of course the socks made all the difference :))! So excited for all your BIG BIG races coming up this fall! Question: are the tutu-s traveling to Berlin, NY and Chicago? Another great podcast!
Loved the race! I’ll be back next year too. It was great meeting you all. Really enjoyed talking after the race. Gotta do it again soon! I think you all nailed describing the race in the podcast! Oh yeah, thanks for making sure the audience knew that I showed up late!! 😂
This is probably one of my favorite episodes also! Training for my first full and you made me feel better about training ! Thank you for this episode.. well all of your episodes!
Interesting
This may be one of your best episodes. Great topic and great examples.
LOVED this subject! Also, what a journey you have been on, Kyle! So many great stories out there to how we came to running and yours is an inspiration! Thank you for this podcast!
Thank you, Kyle, for talking about this. I struggle with imposter syndrome in many areas of life especially in relationships and professionally. It's not easy and a constant battle. One thing that has helped is to remind myself to accept compliments for what they are not doubt that someone is just lying to me. It's not easy in the moment but I try my best to catch it.
I usually listen on Spotify at 1.5x, and coming here listening at 1x is hard to get used to. I'm used to you sounding like you crushed 3 Red Bulls before starting the pod haha
@@tyler.million HA!!!!
Good info. I don't run long in the summer. I only ran three yesterday at noon. I wanted to run 45m. I had to bail on that. I ran three miles. I paid it
Community, that's it
Just volunteer and then run for bodies this weekend. 👀
I did the half in Parkville on Saturday and the half in St Joe. Two completely different courses! Flat and hilly
