Traxxas Stampede - Back To Velineon Power
After destroying a Speed Passion motor in my Stampede I've gone back to Velineon power so it's fast, fun and reliable again. Sadly I only had my mobile to film this run on so quality isn't the best and it was pouring with rain but we still had a lot of fun.
The Stampede is mostly stock apart from alloy wheelie bar wheels and shock caps, RPM front arms and bumper and heavy duty drive shafts.

Speed Passion brushless motor in Stampede killed in one run!
มุมมอง 3.1K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Haven't done a video for a while so I put a new Speed Passion Reventon S ESC & Competition 3.0S 3500kv brushless motor combo I got for less than £30 (rcmart sale) into my Stampede as I'm always using the electrics from that in other RC's. Sadly the motor died after only one battery pack! Speed gearing or crap motor, who knows? To see Stampede go back to Velineon th-cam.com/video/PP7S7nc7At4/w-d...

    What size pinion ? The Grasshopper transmission with small tires use a 18 or 20 tooth pinion. You have large lunchbox/monster beetle tires. Those models use a 10 tooth pinion with an offset motormount to compensate for the larger tires.

    Awesome project :) I just recently picked up a Tamiya Wild Dagger (Ebay Find) had one before, but unfortunately I took it to school for it's first run and it got stolen from my locker :( so never had a chance to run mine when I was a kid. What upgrades would you recommend?

    • @NO2theEU
      @NO2theEU 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SiTheBugski Thanks. If it's stock then bearings, an ESC and oil shocks are a good place to start. If you're going for a basher with a lot more power then HPI or Traxxas dual motor set ups are the (expensive) way to go. Check out the overview of my Tamiya Dual Hunter with E-Maxx Power, its a Wild Dagger chassis with a different body - --th-cam.com/video/35iX4DhLVXE/w-d-xo.html - That will give you loads of ideas for upgrades. If you want to go trailing or crawling it's not really the ideal truck but taller shock towers, longer shocks and locked diffs help a little. The steering will always be rubbish but my Dual Hunter video and this build show how I improved it on both trucks. If like me you crash a lot then you'll get through a lot of c hubs, steering blocks and c hub screws. I carry 2 sets whenever I take mine out! Hope you have a lot of fun with it.

    • @SYREKZZ
      @SYREKZZ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for going in-depth. I've already ordered rubber sealed bearings for the WD, I'm also going to buy hard steel CVD joints, Steel dog bones, etc. To improve the durability. Also I'm going to buy all the alloy parts for the WD (Arms, Shock tower, C hubs, etc) I may even purchase an alloy chassis, but I haven't found any listed in the UK so that's a bummer. As for electronics I plan on fitting a twin brushless system, so 2 ESC's & Motors @ 12Turn (I understand that front mounted motor needs to run in reverse, also needs to be 0 timed), not sure yet what brand of receiver, transmitter & servo I'll go for yet.

    • @NO2theEU
      @NO2theEU 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SiTheBugski No problem. I've always broken CVDs so i just stick to OFNA dog bones on the rear and 3Racing M03 heavy duty front axles with standard dogbones and the standard rubber ring at each end for the front, hopefully you'll have more luck than I did with them. The alloy c hubs and steering blocks are great but watch out for the increased steering lock, I'd pop out the dog bone every time I went full throttle at full lock with the standard axles & dog bones. I never tried them with CVDs or the HD axles though. Good luck with the build.

    the most powerfull yet most utterly rubbish RC I ever owned. Converted it to a Slash as soon as possible, but still rubbish. But good on you for having fun with it buddy. My Valineon system is sat waiting for summink 4wd to sit in.

    • @NO2theEU
      @NO2theEU 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +paulmcnamara16 Yeah, I love the Velineon system, especially in Tamiya's. It's too powerful for them but lots of fun! I'm surprised you hate the Stampede so much though. I find it drives much better than any of my Tamiya's (but I still love Tamiya's more, even with all their flaws).

    • @paulmcnamara16
      @paulmcnamara16 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just recently begun to hate 2wd RCs. My fleet is almost totally 4wd now. Got a nearly fully RPMd Slash 2wd and still dont like it. Given it every chance but still cant find love for it. Biggest mistake ever letting the TL01 LR3 go.

    • @NO2theEU
      @NO2theEU 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +paulmcnamara16 I agree (about the Land Rover, I've never tried a Slash). 4x4's are definitely better but I can't remember ever breaking anything on the Stampede (apart from the Speed Passion motor) so that's probably why I like it so much.

    • @paulmcnamara16
      @paulmcnamara16 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cant knock the Traxxas 2wd platform's legendary reliability but I just dont like there handling. Mine has rpm suspension and proline trencher SCs and it still doesnt do it for me. Not prepared to spend any more cash on it. But got an idea. Transversely center mount the gearbox and use two spare emaxx diffs and make a mutant 4x4. Well at least have a try!!

    ANY MOD MADE ON 80S CAR WILL BE A USELESS AND WASTED OF TIME. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO, PUT THIS BODY TO A NEW RC CHASIS.

    • @NO2theEU
      @NO2theEU 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TK11R2 True, I could just buy a new RC, but that wouldn't be much of a challenge, wouldn't remind me of my childhood and, most importantly, wouldn't be something unique that I have modified myself. I'm guessing you'd think I was really wasting my time if you saw my Clodbuster. Actually, you're right, my Clodbuster is still rubbish, damn! Oh well, I still love it. Each to their own I guess.

    • @Temazine
      @Temazine 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will not be completely useless. The vintage Tamiya models are virtually indestructible, and although they have terrible suspension, they're still fun. I upgraded mine to a 540 sports tuned motor, replaced the msc with an esc, bought a 2.4ghz receiver and remote, and a 4000mah stick pack. It runs like a champ. The only thing that drives me crazy is trying to find the right tires because I'd like to have something with a real tread instead of just pin spikes, so I can drive offroad.

  • @paulmcnamara16
    @paulmcnamara16 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    welcome back dude long time no see. Well a Traxxas hey buddy! Had one do that it was a motor wire come away. I suggest HobbyWing ESC as a cheap Vs good compromise. And wheres that LR3 hiding?

    • @NO2theEU
      @NO2theEU 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +paulmcnamara16 Thanks! I've been doing more work on my RC's than actually driving them recently and couldn't be bothered to worry about filming at the same time. Had the Stampede for ages but the motor/ESC is always in other RC's. As this motor is toast and the Grasshopper is in bits I've swapped the Velineon system back into the Stampede now, I'd forgotten how much fun it was! As for the LR3, I've bought a new Hobbywing waterproof twin motor ESC with a crawler setting but haven't got round to fitting it yet.
