Amazing. Harry McDonald always sounded like an old man singing on all these old records. No arguing about that, is there? He was popular, but, then again, that's what was available on early records. Imagine listening to Frank Sinatra and then having to listen to Harry McDonough. Phew...! 🐸🦖🫏

Hello, I have commented before about those pesky fade outs. On this one, don't hear it a bit. Pryor sounds great here! But it seems that at the recording session, the flutes are too far away from the recording horn, don't you think? And they get drowned out (not your issue, but Victor's stage manager, I guess) by the rest. However, this is a pristine copy, and whatever you had to do to post-process it seems really great! Cheers!

Very unusual recording. I had no idea Westminster could play that range of notes, only the famous Westminster chimes tune. I expect making that recording was quite a project at that time.

Thanjs for sharing! This march was composed by the great Charles N. Daniels, who also wrote as "Neil Moret", "L'Albert" and under several other names. This was I believe the official march of the St. Louis Purchase Exposition of 1904. I have a photocopy of the orchestra (concert band?) score to this march, courtesy the late Nan Bostick, Mr. Daniels' great-niece. She was working on a biography of her "Uncle Charlie" when she passed, and had compiled at least one sheet-music folio and made three recordings (two are duet recordings with Tom Brier).

Very popular song 1890's to about 1910 or so. Keep in mind, that this 1904 record may have been purchased, by a Civil War veteran as many were still alive.

Arthur Pryor was a member of the Sousa band before he started his own. He recorded many discs.

Pseudonym for the famous singer Emilio de Gorgoza. His early Victors were all black seal. Later he was raised to the Red Seals. He had a great voice.
