Laserdisc was actually introduced in the late 1970s and Laserdisc was a far superior product to any other home video format at the time, being the first home format to offer widescreen / letter boxing and had far better audio quality. There are some Laserdiscs that still offer better audio quality than many 4k releases as it is uncompressed. It was nowhere near being considered a worst invention, it wasnt even considered a failure, due to it's high cost it was largerly marketed toward videophiles not the average home movie consumer market.

Came out in 1978 and had far superior quality to any other home format at the time. Is still comparable to dvd today which are still sold in shops. The only drawback was that it was expensive and had to be flipped which isn’t that big of a deal, some high end players had both side play so it would do it itself. Also looked cool and could often have bonus features and special editions. Had to defend my favourite format sorry
