you never eat rye bread by itself, it needs butter and pålæg (which is either cheese, cream cheese, or assorted meats and lots other options) best way to eat the tomato makrel is on buttered rye bread and with mayo and cucumber on top, with salt and pepper. that combo is golden 😊

Mix that "capri-sonne" in your porridge. Mebbi throw some raisins in there as well. Itl fill you up nicely in the mornings. Stuff buiscuits and pates in your pockets, grab your hot drink and youre off.. luxury breakfast almost on the go

I went to Legoland near San Diego, CA several years ago and was really surprised at how good the food was. Didn't think much of it. But now I've spent a month in Denmark, and all the food I've encountered is really high quality. I guess the Danes just don't have time for bad food.

Oh boy, I have had the pleasure and luxury of being a daily basis user of the MRE's in Denmark since 1991, and it has definitely improved during the years. We used to carry around 4 pounds more in tins and plastic extra. It might not seem as much, but after 10 miles in sand, you can definitely get an idea of what 4 pounds less means to a reasonably healthy trooper.

The mackerel is meant to go on the rye bread. Pate goes on the crackers. The sweetness and the liquid of the mackerel counters the bitterness and dryness of the rye

When my dad was in army our family get weekly tons of eggs, 2/3 times fresh meats, veggies/fruits no tax on canteen also family housing free,school, hospital, Friday or Saturday movie night I don't remember perticular day...

I'm sad for you, that you haven't gotten a good introduction to rye bread. It's a more complex flavor than white bread, and as such, it is kind of sad that you are introduced via a dry and cheap looking version. It's kind of like trying to convince someone that coffee is good and only serving them cheap instant-powder stuff. Fun fact: In Denmark rye bread is widespread enough that the word for food "mad" is the same as the word for rye bread with toppings.

Ryebread is not meant to be eaten dry. You're usually supposed to put something on top of it. The patè usually goes well on ryebread. We most commonly eat ryebread for lunch and sometimes dinner.

I see they removed it due to them being stupid, because it says it is due to possible contaminents in meats, but the MRE products are all treated to prevent exactly that, and all sealed, so their reasoning is false.

As for the millitary Denmark has been active in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Africa together with the USA and Brittain The navy has been active in preventing pirats west and east of Africa. Per GDP Denmark is the biggest contributor to Ukraine.

You wonderful American :) - Some of the things you mix together would make a Scandinavian/Nordic person green in their head :D -However, if you are in a critical situation, it doesn't matter how you mix the things, as long as you're getting the food as it's filled with vitamins, carbs and fat you need to do your job. Rye bread: In Scandinavia we all have some sort of rye bread, and for us it is a important part of our food. I know rye bread isn't for everyone, but it is made for eating together with pate, sausage(s) and toppings of "whatever you are into" Also, why the food items taste better is because it's not filled with sugar and unnecessary strange chemicals. For your enlightenment; compared to population size, Denmark suffered higher losses in Afghanistan than any other ISAF country. Danes fought in Helmand which was the hottest area, and our boys and girls constantly volunteered for the most difficult and dangerous missions according to our British brothers in arms, and according to a professor at the USMC University (advanced crayon eating 😅), the Danes were the best troops in ISAF.

Fun fact about the Hazelnut spred/Nutella, Back in the day, a Danish comedian ran for spot in the government as an independent as a joke, on the political idéer that you should have back wind on all bike roads, and Nutella in the Rations for our solideres, he got 1 mandate and got in, and actually stayed. If you're eating the rye bread (Rugbrød) alone you're doing it wrong. 😅 The Marcel, Tuna, and Pate are meant to go on the Rye bread, with a bit of butter in between. That's the correct way to eat classic Danish rugbrød, danish kids are practically raised on that combo. 🤣

In Croatia you can buy all of these ration's components from any corner store. They're just off-the-shelf standard items available anywhere. 'Keks' means 'biscuits' in the packaged sense, so most keks is actually sweet and not savoury. Those different liver and other patés are also available off the shelf and are super affordable.

The big bag is to use for various reasons, like hauling water, carrying the components once you've opened the box, keeping trash together, even boiling water in it. Just depends on what ypu need it for out in the field. Remember these are meant to be used in the field not in a fully stocked home. 😊 also check where the things are made, some countries use the sane companies for their components.
