Stoodley Pike Circular
Day 2 of my South Pennines mini break and I visit the impressive Stoodley Pike.
I ascend from Withens Clough Reservoir, then walk along the ridge line away from the monument. Drop down into the valley on the northern side. Walk through Lumbutts and Mankinholes, and then climb back up Stoodley Pike (this time from the northern side).
Stoodley Pike is an incredible monument and dominates the skyline for the majority of the walk.

I didn’t give much consideration to the possibility of a thunderstorm. I always check the weather forecast before any walk and the forecast for the day was good. Hello Sadie and Paul 😀 I look forward to reading your comments each week 😁. I really enjoyed the walk - I can’t believe that I’ve not been to those quarries before. I had them to myself and I suppose most people just pass them by on their way to the popular spots. You’re probably right about the sheep. I was just joking about it being the lair of a big cat or Bigfoot 🤣 but it does give that impression. My reaction to seeing the sheep skeleton in the cave was genuine. I’d not looked inside until that moment and for a split second I wondered exactly what I’d found 😅. That house is definitely abandoned which is a real pity. It’s all boarded up and you can’t get inside. We will see about the wild camp - I don’t have cold weather camping gear. For your camp on kinder scout I would definitely recommend the northern side because it’s quieter. Maybe seal rocks or fairbrook naze? I can’t wait for you to tell me all about it. Take care x

      Good afternoon Kevin, 😅 what a hot week I think it's slightly hotter in Suffolk than up there. We are heading back up this coming Monday and leave on the following Friday so, hopefully it will be dry but, not as hot as this. As for the wild camp I think it would only feel right to do it up on Kinder, not the woolpacks though! I would love to walk the perimeter and maybe camp up there two nights. Only ever camped once and that was when I was 13 and at school, I wouldn't wild camp where we live, but there is something about the Peak District. Paul thinks he will be in his element on a wild camp 🏕 and I know he will look after me! 🙂.

      @@PaulandSadie hi to you both. I hope you have an amazing time in the PD next week, and fingers crossed the weather stays dry! Your plans for kinder scout sound great - there are plenty plenty of spots to pitch your tent - the northern side is quietest 😁

    Wonderful views especially of Kinder Scout, it was lovely to watch knowing a few days after you filmed this we walked up Ashop Head onto Kinder. What a beautiful clear day for you maybe abit warm for hiking 😂. We were watching and saying you need a drone and then you went and said it 😂 you should really consider getting one, we have had ours since May and have got the hang of using it quite quickly. We got some great footage up there recently with it. We may visit this area when we return in a couple of weeks, would love to get close to that waterfall 😊. Thankyou for another video of such a wonderful place very close to our hearts.

      @@PaulandSadie hi Paul and Sadie. Hope you’re both well. Glad you enjoyed the video, it’s either raining when I’m out or baking hot 😂 I’d love a drone but it’s a bit expensive for me and if I was to invest in camera equipment I’d probably get an action camera instead of using my phone. I bet you love using your drone though - you must have got some amazing shots on kinder scout!

      @kevinstark4294 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@atrampinthehills.841 thanks mate. The cabin that I now believe was the one that was vandalised has been completely rebuilt. But yeah. Mindless vandalism of cabins is the reason why landowners destroyed so many of them in the 50s / 60s. Imagine how great it would be to walk in the Peaks if all the cabins were still intact and could be used as shelters.
