When it comes to effective fire safety, small things make a difference. Door closers are not all made equal. In busy environments, force-closing doors will cause some closers to fail. Forcing a door shut in an emergency is the last time you want it to fail. The one-way valve inside Rutland’s 9000 and 11000 series door closers enables the internal hydraulic oil to flow the other way when the doo...

  • @Maasterstead

    Two errors that I found whilst fitting. Firstly, if you fit the top slide bar from a right hinge (demonstration shows left hinge) then the countersinks are the wrong side and the mount screws are proud. Secondly the instructions state leave a 28mm gap between mounting holes (top fixing to bottom fixing). This is impossible as you will find the connector bar has no room to move. This gap is determined by the gap in the top of your door so I suggest eyeing up the gap with the connector bar in place for a better fit. You can see in the demonstration that he left too big a gap and the connector bar is on a slight slope which is better than what I did by following the instructions and not allowing hardly a gap at all.

    • @RutlandDoorControls
      @RutlandDoorControls ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, to answer your questions, firstly the slide rail does only have countersunk holes on one side, but there is no need to flip the slide rail over, as it is just a case of moving the slide block along the rail to the other end, if fitting right hand. Also, the TS.11205 instructions have since been updated, with the measurement now being 32mm, rather than 28mm.

    • @RutlandDoorControls
      @RutlandDoorControls ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, for fitting in a reveal, the maximum size reveal this closer can be fitted in is 60mm. For anything more we would usually recommend fitting the closer on the other side if possible, or using a concealed door closer. www.rutlanduk.co.uk/its-11204-concealed-cam-action-door-closer

    💬 In answer to Chris Waterman's idea, 'How in this digital age there should be a quick way to replace BS476 in certification with EN 1634?', our answer to this is "definitely not possible". You cannot elevate BS 476 testing to EN 1634-1. Each application tested to BS 476 requires completely new testing to the European EN 1634, hence the concern from the industry that it will be costing ballpark £10k each test... and the rest, if you include admin and manufacturing costs. And that's for every fire safety product detail affected. Unfortunately, it is not a simple, quick, low-cost 'search and replace' digital world exercise.

    I'm relieved that you produced this video because the instructions that come with the closer are appallingly bad. GCSE fail bad - I can't believe someone actually got paid to produce such awful diagrams. In the diagram it mentions nothing about how the template refers to fitting on the pull or push side. The diagram suggests that the two sides of the template are for left or right handed doors. Let's hope all the effort went into the design and manufacture because ZERO EFFORT went into producing the instructions. If you care about your customers then include a usable diagram produced by someone who knows how to communicate.Maybe even include some text to let people know what you are TRYING to say!Jeez- how much does ink cost??? It's not as if you have to pay someone to type each set of instructions by hand.

    Is the backcheck the best method of stopping the door from opening too quickly when caught by high winds? We recently had an injury where the door was opened, the wind caught it and it yanked the persons arm back. Thanks

    • @RutlandDoorControls
      @RutlandDoorControls 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your interest in this video .Unfortunately backcheck does not prevent winds from catching a door and opening with the force of the wind as it relies more on an instant force rather than a continued force, such as wind, we don't recommend relying on backcheck when used on exterior doors for exactly this reason, especially when the door can extend past the door closer arm and clash with an exterior wall. We always suggest a safety barrier to protect wall/door damage. Hope this helps

    • @RutlandDoorControls
      @RutlandDoorControls 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your interest in this video, either pulling the door or pushing the door to exit a room is not affected by the speed of close and latching speed adjustment settings as these settings only control the speed of the oil flowing back into the chambers, thus allowing you to adjust the speed of close. is it true that fire doors must have minimum size 3 door closers? the one i have is WAY too strong for a commercially available 760mm plywood fire door.. what closers are you supposed to use with these smaller domestic doors?

    • @RutlandDoorControls
      @RutlandDoorControls 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Size 3 is a guide for fire doors, which comes from; the minimum closing force for a fire door is 18 Newtons at the leading edge of the door. In EN1154 testing Standard EN3 has a range of 18 -26 Newton closing force.. But practically if your door is narrower, then what you need to work to is the minimum 18 Newtons at the leading edge of the door. So on a 726 wide door you would easily achieve this with EN2 size closer. So if you use a power adjustable closer you can wind the power up or down from the factory set size 3, to suit your door, trust this helps. Call Rutland technical team on 01246261491 for more. Thanks

    I'm having problems with opening tension and my door closer just have ar the hinge side the latch and speed valves screws, an a big female Allen screw, so how can I reduce tension on this one, thanks for the help.

    • @RutlandDoorControls
      @RutlandDoorControls 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Rodrigo, thanks for your question. The female Allen screw on the end of the closer will turn several revolutions, turn clockwise to increase the power or anti clockwise to decrease the power. If you have an articulated type arm closer, and is fitted on the pull side of the door, then you also have another trick you can play - the little bracket (shoe) that is screwed to the door frame can be turned over by taking the two screws out the top of the arm sliding out the metal bar and turning over. This moves the pivot point very slightly and therefore this increases the power of the latch. The long side of shoe towards the hinge is normal, or short side towards the hinge is stronger power at the latch. Trust this helps.

      I've seen this being done recently very dangerous due to the weight of the door closer simply get a block of thick wood measure your door with then use the strongest glue in the world to stick to the glass and bobs Ur uncle carefully fit the door closer onto the wood on glass door then attach the arm to the frame just make sure the arm isn't 2 strong 💪 make the arm weak so when the door closer closes the door there isn't excess pressure put onto the glass door
