Hear and Do
Sermon Text: James 1:22-25
After telling his readers to be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to listen, James further instructs them that they cannot only hear, but they must also do. Hearing and understanding the word of God requires appropriate action. In this sermon, we also learn that this idea of hearers must also do is not unique to James. James learned it from Jesus, who said the same thing at the end of the Sermon on the Mount.

Slow Down
มุมมอง 814 วันที่ผ่านมา
"Quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger" is how James instructs Christians how they ought to live. However, our culture has been quick to encourage the opposite. Far too often we are slow to hear, quick to speak and quick to anger. The scriptures teach us that the wrath of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God. Hear Pastor Brian Morris encourage us to slow down to listen without...
Giver of Good Gifts
มุมมอง 221 วันที่ผ่านมา
James 1:13-18 James teaches us in this passage that God only gives us good and perfect gifts. He does not give us temptation. Anyone who thinks that God is the giver of temptation is deceived. In this sermon, Pastor Brian Morris teaches what kind of gifts are these good and perfect gifts. He also teaches that God may test us but our temptation comes from elsewhere.
The Grass Withers

Sermon Text: James 1:9-12 The lowly brother will see his exaltation and the rich man his humiliation, not in this life but the next. Life is fleeting, and wasting time chasing the gods of wealth and status produces no good fruit. But the one who endures through faith will receive that crown of life and the ability to reign with Christ at His return.
Epistle of Straw?
มุมมอง 6หลายเดือนก่อน
Martin Luther once referred to James as an "epistle of straw" when comparing it to the other books of the New Testament. However, others have referred to this letter as the Proverbs of the New Testament. It seems that Luther may have misunderstood parts of this letter. In this first sermon from our series through the book of James, Pastor Brian looks at how James teaches us to seek joy, wisdom,...
The Sign of Jonah
มุมมอง 5หลายเดือนก่อน
Matthew 12:38-42 In Matthew 12, Jesus tells the Scribes and Pharisees who are looking for a sign that the only sign they will receive is the sign of Jonah. Pastor Brian explains what Jesus means when he tells them this. Pastor Brian also describes why the sign of Jonah, the sign of Jesus' death and resurrection, is the only sign that we need.
God's Grace on the Grumpy and the Guilty

God continues to show his compassion on the grumpy prophet Jonah. Jonah is angry about God's mercy on Nineveh. But God shows him why he would be compassionate on Nineveh. Jonah is sinfully angry over what is happening around him. Even through his anger Jonah is taught more about God and his grace is through a plant, a worm, and the wind.
Nineveh Repents

Sermon text: Jonah 3:5-10 Jonah preaches the word of God to the Ninevites they hear and they repent. The message reaches the greatest and the least - even the king. The King issues a decree expanding their fast. The text shows us what repentance looks like. They received a believable message from a reliable source and so they repent. True repentance plus sound doctrine will result in godly livi...
Repent or Perish

Sermon Text: Jonah 3:1-5 In this sermon, Pastor Brian Morris examines what we can learn about preaching from Jonah. Jonah preaches a sermon that leads to mass repentance from the people of Nineveh, yet it seems that Jonah does not preach to himself first. What Jonah does right is that he simply preaches the word, and the word does the work. In all of this though we see that Jonah's message is n...
The Universal Church

Dr. Jim Ptak from Hebrews 12:1-2 teaches us about the Church. Who is the Church? what is the purpose of the Church? And why we as Christians need the church. Jim teaches us that we cannot claim to be a Christian and not need the church. We do not gather as the church to earn God's love, but we gather as the church because God has loved us, and given us his son, and he has adopted us as sons and...
The Song of Jonah
มุมมอง 62 หลายเดือนก่อน
Jonah's prayer from the belly of the fish is a powerful testament to God's sovereignty and grace. Despite his previous attempt to flee from God, Jonah finds himself trapped in a situation where his only hope is to cry out to God. His prayer, filled with repentance and longing for God's presence, echoes familiar Psalms, highlighting the importance of knowing and memorizing Scripture. Jonah's exp...
The Sovereignty of God

Sermon text: Jonah 1:7-17 Jonah has headed in the opposite direction of Nineveh to Tarshish, though he still cannot escape God's presence. Ironically, Jonah has sought to escape the God of the land and the sea by ship. God has sent a storm to judge Jonah. This text shows us that God is sovereign over the lots, the sea, the salvation of sinners, and even animals. God's sovereignty encourages us ...

As The Dove Flies

Jonah 1:1-6. From our first sermon in our series through the book of Jonah. We see how Jonah, like his namesake the dove, flies away from God in a silly and senseless manner. The Lord calls him to preach against the evil of the Ninevites, yet Jonah seeks to flee from the Lord's presence. Jonah will find that even in the storm on the Mediterranean Sea, and even in the belly of the whale he will ...

Moses authors the first Psalm of book 4, and the final Psalm we look at for 2024. In this Psalm, Moses praises God for his eternality. He also observes and comments on man's mortality. After reflecting on these two things he remarks that we can gain wisdom from numbering our days.
