Assembling The Airfix Dornier Do17z Part 7
During the early years of the Second World War, the Dornier Do17 was one of the Luftwaffe's most important medium bombers. Developed during the 1930s, first as a mail plane, then as a reconnaissance bomber, the Dornier was nicknamed 'the flying pencil' due to its very thin tapering fuselage.
While early versions used inline engines, the iconic and most widely used Z variant used Bramo radial engines, and featured a redesigned cockpit area, with the intention of providing more space and defensive capabilities for the crew.
However, this was not wholly successful, its small crew area and lack of power operated turrets making it easy prey for Allied fighters. Of all the German medium bombers used in the Battle of Britain, the Dornier was the slowest and therefore most vulnerable and the battle proved to be the aircrafts swansong over Western Europe, with the aircraft seeing only limited use in the later theatres of war, before being phased out altogether by mid-1942.
The Dornier became a symbol of Blitzkrieg, but its vulnerability put paid to any chance of longevity of service.
Specifications:
Speed: 217mph

    Why not just buy the Corgi Dornier Do17Z Diecast Model, in 1/72 Scale, it would save all the stress and heartache of having to build one, trust me.

    I use the Yellow 'low tack' version of Frog Tape, never had any issues with it, apart from being 25mm wide and having to cut it into narrower strips.

  • @wordenb1830

    Coming along nicely Steve, adding the decals really starts to bring the model to life. If you don't mind me saying and I know we all do things differently but I would have sprayed the whole fuselage white then just masked off the lower part to paint the grey. It might have helped prevent any bleed under the tape where it crossed the white paint line. Just a thought. Anyway do enjoy the rest of your week off and stay cool!

    The detail in that kit is impressive. I may have to invest... and toss the Italeri one off the shelf. I was never happy with the fit and finish of it anyway... even though it was a step up from Matchbox...

  • @Blowinshiddup
    @Blowinshiddup 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Well, it's definitely a step up from the old Matchbox one I did a few years back... may have to see how much they cost over here. (Airfix is getting really pricey in Canada.)

    • @StevieboyLondon
      @StevieboyLondon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will get round to doing it eventually. I need to book time off work to get real work done to the bedroom and get it converted into a hobby room. Only when that is finished, I can start work on a diorama. Also I need to raise funds for getting the materials to build a work bench.

    Kitchen worktop is ideal for cutting photo etch, nice and flat and hard. But a better option would be a tile or a piece of glass, ideal,for your workbench, much more portable! Cutting mats are not good for photo etch, too soft and springy...Good luck with it 😊
