Your payment processor will still charge their fees, but there aren't any costs to do with buying / renting their terminal hardware as long as you're going to have a compatible phone anyway.

yes but if they suspect fraud they will shut it down and you also need a company to start

merchants don't need to buy a POS card reader.
They are accepting cards and tap via an iPhone over a POS card reader.
