Our pet roadrunners
Every afternoon for the past couple years we hand feed roadrunners that come up on our deck to visit. This time, the adult male brought his lunch with him, but still wanted to garnish it with some raw hamburger. The other bird is the son who was born a few months ago and quickly caught on that free handouts were available from the humans on the deck.

He found a huge sphinx moth (AKA hummingbird moth / hawk moth, etc.). Show off!
Honestly thought they existed in a cartoon. Brother moved to Nevada and found out the truth. I love the birds in my area but don't expect to see a roadrunner here. But I will when I visit - already have him sending pics. Beautiful.
Not sure where you are but we also have these beautiful birds in AZ. They come into our yard daily and are fun to watch. 🙋❤

Outside of most raptors I'd have to say the Roadrunner (Latin: Accelleratus Incredibus) is the bird with the most personality and coolness..
I had a roadrunner once - that car was fast.

So while a black cat should never cross your path, you should always allow a roadrunner to cross your path, and you will have good luck for the rest of your day! If I had Roadrunners around my home I would put a pan of water out for them daily. They are great snake killers including Rattlesnakes ! Awesome video !
They actually get their water from the protein sources they consume. Not a bad idea.

LOL Yes, you are correct. This is his ritual/ mating dance. They mate for life. He just likes to give her more treats after copulation. They are soo beautiful.

How can you tell that it's a HE my son would like to know
I've observed them for a couple of years. They mate for life. The Male gets food to entice the female. he performs and makes certain sounds. If she is receptive she lets him mount her afterward he gives her the food. If she is nesting he will bring her food. He also sits on the nest at night.

Those birds sre highly perceptive. U must be good people. They are like raven and crows . Once they know they can trust you . They will be friendly for life.

Ok... that's crazy for one. Two... its pretty freaking awesome. They obviously feel safe there. My advice... dont try and take it much further. Hand feeding them... amazing but I would limit it. Just having them that close, not sure many people can say the same.
