@CaliforniaBear619 Honest opinion ... I stayed nearby at Red Planet and visited Filling Station several times for breakfast and occasionally a beer in the evening. It was an amusing, entertaining and welcome dose of American memorabilia on a street (P. Burgos) which could be described as somewhat seedy. To answer your question, the food was great - definitely not gourmet but typical diner fare. I generally don't like Filipino food so that worked very well for me and I really enjoyed the friendly staff and ambience. i believe your family would really enjoy it.

@@BrokerBasil I'd like then to try American style dinner type restaurant menu. I always see vloggers film around it. Seems packed specially at night. So maybe when we do go to Manila, we may make a stop there. Thanks again!

You may get the "funniest comment" award 😂 But yes I've seen several comments in other videos relating to spending the night up there - perhaps mostly in pre-permit days but I'm not sure? You'll see from some of my other content that I spend time and travel in Asia so not so easily shocked ... each to his own, live and let live etc. 😁

@@BrokerBasil Good good, I wouldn't want to upset the youtube gods !, but anyway both girls had big smiles and were happy although the one with the sleeping bag did most of the talking. I haven't had a chance to watch much at all of your other videos but I did see from titles etc that you had many from other countries.

@charlesb4267 Thanks for the delightful comment. I agree much of what we do is about the encounters we have and memories we make along the way. That puts you at ~60 now so just 9 years to go and who knows maybe you'll go back for a rematch - having said that I figured I'd never do it again ... but so many athletes/adventurers say that on the day and then they're back a year later doing it again 😁

@@BrokerBasil Now now, don't make me even older than I am LOL, I am 59 but obviously the big 6 0 is coming up. I have some lung damage from pneumonia that happened and I just about kicked the bucket at age 21 so that certainly was not helping and as the altitude increases things become touchy as an understated way of putting it. And as to the people interactions, while I don't remember every little detail now of each encounter, there were some people I observed who I noted did not interact with anyone that I happened to see and instead almost staying away from others to avoid any interaction. Perhaps next time you hike it you can make a point of base jumping from the "diving board" and if they catch you ... just tell them you fell off the dome and "just happened" to be wearing a chute 😂

@charlesb4267 Haha - some good points. Sorry to hear of your med history but all the more impressive to have done it as you certainly wouldn't want any unexpected hiccups on that climb. Yes people vary of course but sometimes it's fun to encourage otherwise shy people to engage 😁 And I'll keep the chute in mind for when I'm 80 and don't have the stamina to hike down 😂

@leosarmiento4823 Yes my heart goes out to the Dad and entire family. This is a demanding hike and there is real risk involved especially in bad weather. You need to hold on to that cable for dear life as that is literally what you are doing. (I had a very good foothold at that point where I briefly removed my hands from cables).

I've spent many months I'm Yosemite and never climbed the cables to Half Dome. Closest I got was in February 1980 when wintering there.

@cindyland6273 Haha - maybe there's more life in this old guy than you give him credit for 😁 In reality I wanted to keep moving at a sustainable pace and think I managed to do that. But yes there were parts where the going was indeed tough. It is one thing to do something physically demanding and be in a safe place (eg. running a marathon or completing an Ironman Triathlon) but it's another when you know if you slip or lose your balance the consequences can be rather serious (like sliding down the face of Sub or Half Dome). It definitely adds an extra layer of excitement. 😁 Thanks - I really appreciate your comment.

@LaidBackGolf I biked to Cadillac Mountain in Acadia many years ago (when I did more biking than hiking) but haven't been back since so sadly no hikes there. But thanks for the tips and recommendation. Funnily enough I have several microphones (several lavalier and also wireless) which I generally use on interviews but I made the decision I wanted minimal equipment with me on these hikes and so trusted the media mod (with deadcat) on GoPro10 to produce acceptable audio. I know it's not perfect but the ambient noise was also significant with the raging water flow and much of the time I wanted to keep that for atmosphere (sometimes I reduced it using voice isolation in audio editing). @Kimonha it was during the last days of May - just before I left after spending all of May in Yosemite.

@jeaninemcelwain7991 it's 8,836 feet elevation at the top and valley floor (where hike starts) is about 4,000 feet.

@roybishop8874 ah interesting. I love Thailand too but would probably choose Phuket (has everything but a little more expensive) or Chiang Mai (has everything except beaches and need to escape for March air quality). My Philippines base is now Cebu - Mactan Newtown but I'm in Davis, CA right now.
