If this truly is a one-man solo project, then I assume you are doing your own backup vocals. It's a great song, and great performance, but with a different sound from Jayhawks without the harmonies. To me, it has a bit of 1960's pop flavor to it. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I was having flashbacks to the Monkees' Daydream Believer.

I can only echo the other comments on here......great song off an album that is a masterpiece....even in the barest stripped down solo guitar version without the trademark harmony vocals that is the Jayhawks sound, still a great song on it's own!!

Just saw Jayhawks at the Old Town School in Chicago (4th decade I've seen a show, but I've only seen them 5 times. . lol) and they are just too good. And this song is why. . . Gary is a monster songwriter. With his songwriting my appreciation is genre-agnostic. Hollywood Town Hall is a seminal album for the genre (I'm not going to label it...worthless discussion), a "Desert Island" album and the quality never waned.
