Stihl 036 Chainsaw Test Run with a 28” Bar
Testing this first gen. Stihl 036 chainsaw with a 28” bar. I pulled this bar off of my 044 but I grabbed another chain and filed it in such a way hoping it would lend itself to “smoothness” rather than aggressiveness and it seemed to work out. The saw pulled the just fine. In fact I was surprised on just how well it did. I’ve been very impressed with the 036, they’re considered to be one of the best chainsaws ever made.

Easy on the Rakers | Square Grind
มุมมอง 23K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
First grind on a new chain; I took the rakers, stops, drags, or whatever you refer them to down to around .35 - .40 thousandths or so, which isn’t too bad for a new round filed chain, especially for bucking, but, for a new square filed chain, it was VERY aggressive cutting, even for bucking. The angles of the teeth were set up for cutting softwood as well. One day we’ll have to do a comparison ...
Husky 281 Pulling a 42 & Stihl 044 Pulling a 36 in a Frozen Chunk
มุมมอง 2.3K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
A follow up from the previous video; They were calling for a chance of precipitation, in the frozen form, so I figured I’d better make the video before it snowed. Thankfully we missed the snow but we didn’t miss the cold. Everything was frozen pretty hard. Running my Husqvarna 281 with the same 42” bar and chain as before. Just for kicks I threw my Stihl 044 in with a 36” bar (short version, me...
Why You Run Chains Tighter On Long Bars
มุมมอง 56511 หลายเดือนก่อน
Playing around the Woodyard. One of the biggest arguments people have is how tight to tighten a chain on a chainsaw. The answer is; It depends, it depends on the length of the bar. To simply state, the longer the bar, the tighter you run the chain. Because the longer the bar, the more stretch the chain has, and the more likely it is that your saw might throw the chain. Also running long bars yo...

Looks like you dropped her where you wanted to. Stihl 044!
It's been nasty everywhere, glad the snow missed you. Two great saws...044 all day, every day! She pulls that 36" bar no problem.
Yes it has. Me too. Some of the biggest stuff I ever cut was with another 044 with this very bar on it. The 70cc saws do pretty good with a 36 but, the chain cannot be too hungry or dull at all.
That makes sense. One of the best saws ever made!
Szia👍 Nagyon jó géped van🤗 Üdv Zsolt👍 Budapest Hungary 👍👍

That's my kind of saw! I'm on the hunt for an 044.
The Stihl 044 is just about perfect! I can find less I don’t like about the 044 than any other saw made.
I would agree, quite possibly the perfect saw. My buddy has been running one for years with no issues, which is what sold me on the saw. Being that they were used extensively by fallers it's hard to find one in decent shape.
I'm a Stihl guy, but those vintage Husky saws are tough to beat! I collect vintage saws, don't have a Husky yet...
Those older huskies, (and Stihls) have cut a lot of timber in their day. It’s amazing how they just keep going. EVERYTHING was made to last then, unlike today.
I agree 100%. I love running and working on vintage saws. They were built to last like you said, and boy do they sound good!
So snagged on another tree?
The second one did. It was really tall, and the shot was really tight. I had it gunned to try to squeak it in between two trees, but it snagged on a small limb. And it did fall through on its own a little later.
They just didn’t want to fall!
No they didn’t. You never know how rotten they are inside. These trees get pounded by wind so the were stringier than I had anticipated.
You did great on this man!
Thanks!
I had that same amp. It’s famous for static that cancels the guitar sound. Don’t make the mistake of getting rid of it like i did if that happens to you. The dude i gave it to used something i think he said was contact spray and it worked like new. It’s probably called something else that you can figure out with google
Yeah, it bugs me when there’s an easy fix for something I didn’t know about.
🤘metal head approved. Love the sg's. 👍
My favorite guitar.
Great job on the solo. I love the solo on the recording but it never sounds very good live. You really captured it
Thanks! It’s not an easy one to do.
Just curious, is there a valid reason for NOT wearing eye protection? From first hand experience, getting shards dug out of your eye at the local ER is NOT my idea of fun. (I was wearing safety glasses at the time and a piece of sharp metal ricocheted and embedded in my eye)
Well, there are a couple of reasons; When falling/felling timber, safety glasses fog up on you, so that’s no good. I heard of a guy that lost his eye, due to the glasses getting busted when he got whacked by a limb. Probably would’ve just bruised him otherwise. The fallers glasses with the screens are what a lot people use. I grew up around old school loggers that cut the chain brakes off their saws, and wore nothing but a hard hard and gloves so safety wasn’t something that you were lectured about too often, not like it is today. I try to wear chaps and earplugs, (especially if on TH-cam) but I cut for years without any of it. But you never know when your number might, (but hopefully not) come up, so I try to reduce the chances of that anyway I can. All we can do is be aware of our surroundings, and be as safe as possible.
Nice chainsaw
Man! That thing eats!!
Yes it does! Thanks for watching.
You're poor skidder operator has to drive over them dang high stumps
Without being there I guess you assume they were all this high. The wrap handle only allows you to cut them so low. I normally do cut them a little lower, but the chain was grabbing bad enough as it was. This tree was close to the edge of the line and next to a leave tree, so a stump like this wouldn’t be driven over much if any. Even some trees on the edges cut with feller bunchers, (like a double) can have stumps a lot higher than this.
Ok
Music to my ears brother! Wonderful saw, and video!
Thank you!

The Echo saws are definitely underrated imo.
Oh yes, I got this saw brand new in ‘07, for years we would cut and split firewood and give it away to the elderly that burned wood in the neighborhood, and for our own house, as well as the heater in the shop. So this saw was run pretty much daily for six months out of the year. I’ve cut big Oak firewood that I couldn’t reach the middle cutting all the way around with an 18” bar. Well, they were big for this saw anyway. (45cc’s) I’ve even used it logging for limbing and bucking logs. I’ve also used it for cutting around the house, trimming ATV trails, hunting & habitat work, fruit orchards, carpentry, and anywhere else I needed a chainsaw. Over 15 years of cutting and the only thing I’ve had to do to it is general maintenance. I’ve NEVER run any Stihl or Husqvarna or anything that was any better than this saw has been. Most definitely underrated!!!
@@scottw.2450 my 50cc Echo is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
I remember that sound.
Definitely some nostalgia with this model saw.
