Great video! I moved to Carbondale from New Jersey as an Aviation student at SIU. I got Bachelor's and Master's degrees there, worked as a Stu/dent Resident Assistant and then a Head Resident in Thompson Point, and I LOVED every damn minute of my time in Carbondale! I graduated in 1995, have been back numerous times, and look forward my next trip!

What a complete load of crap. Let's jump back to reality. 1. Jobs - High unemployment since most of the coal mines closed in the 70's. The college is the last lifeline and there's a college bubble on the horizon caused by student loan debt. Marion got the interstate and most of the jobs in the last 40 years. 2. Weather - hot and humid in the summer, cold and snow in the winter, very short spring and fall. Multiple tornadoes every year. First ever land hurricane in 2009. Big Muddy River backs up and floods everything else. Overdue for the New Madrid fault to let loose. - basically, one big natural disaster powder keg 3. People - half the population are students and they treat the town like it's a dumpster. The Halloween party had to be shut down because they keep trying to burn the place down. They drive like jerks and girls need lots of rape evasion training. Lots of drugs if you're into that. Race relations have always been terrible as well, had to stay out of the East Side after dark. City and State Parks have more rules than the prison, you can't read them all in an afternoon. Chicago sucks the money out of the area and returns nothing, especially in the way of state highway maintenance and grade school education. Cops are local good ole boys that never read the law, but will arrest you for anything - another Ferguson in the making. Watch the video again. The camera angles up at everything or down at everything in an attempt to distort the reality that is Carbondale. It's poor, dirty, and miserable to live in, full of drunk college students that like to get hammered and drive. Come on in, the water's fine.

I lived in Carbondale for years and hold the most cheerful memories of the little town. Carbondale to me means life, youth, learning, working, and fun. Thirty years now have passed since I left Carbondale, but it continues to be part of my life and memories.

It does look like the first season of THE WALKING DEAD.

Must be a different Carbondale. I miss home some days, but moving back is a no go.
