Thanks for posting my favorite racing game to this day. A biased opinion here but nothing really plays like it. Regrettably, the learning curve was way too high but when you understood the physics engine and unlock the better cars, pushing towards top speeds drifting through turns and dodging traffic was a visceral experience. If you can hookup a steering wheel and use the bumper camera, its the best way to play the game.

I actually played this back in the day when new, it was bundled with many other games by PS1 came with. I thought it was amazing. I looked fantastic and I loved the car list - it look me far to long to realise that most the cars were actually meant to be traffic, not other opponents. It gave me a soft spot for the Mercury Sable Wagon - never sold in the UK - so to me it was actually quite exotic. I also liked the old Minis, which were still on sale in the UK when the game was launched, so were quite common IRL.

I think most of these mods were either made by g.s.t and/or thundersmacker.

Fun fact: The Asym Desanne was also turned into a limo in Watch Dogs 1 & 2 and the interior of the Desanne was copied and pasted for most cars in Watch Dogs though in low detail.

I think not having modeled interiors was more a byproduct of hardware/storage limitations of the era moreso than the rushed development aspect. But could also have been some blend of the two.

Man this game is a true gem, sadly you can't buy it anymore. But I'm proud that I still have this game for my Xbox 360. And it still works. I have so much memories on that game. 👌🏼

Yes, I have this game on PlayStation, and this game features cars that other games don't feature.

Ok, so Driver and The Crew both have real-world and fictional cars.

Ubisoft is considering making a new Driver game. I wonder if the mini map would still be at the top middle and not the bottom right of the HUD like in The Crew.

There's also a video game called Vanishing Point, but I don't think that's related to the movie, just inspired by the movie.

I never understoof why is the ASYM not in the game when you can see them multiple times in the game during story missions.

The Desanne was probably used in place of cars from BMW since they couldn't get licensing.

Was always curious as to why they had an unlicensed car in the game but kept it hidden from playing. I also found years ago there was a way to get to the multistorey carpark from the original driver reference in the game whilst playing split screen with my brother
