It’s been a successful two years for the beavers, with our previously single beavers pairing up and raising three kits. In this recent video, you can see them wrestling and bonding by touching noses. This indicates that are still a pair and may breed again next year!

So cute. Yesterday, I rescued one. It suffered from a heatstroke and I brought it to the wildlife sanctuary.

I have visited Mansey Common, which is a lovely piece of unspoilt countryside. You can pass over The Dumble by a wooden footbridge and get to Eakring. Parked my car in Winkburn and walked via Roewood Lane, Robin Hood's Way, Dukes Wood, returning via Dilliner Wood, Holywell Farm (sadly now derelict), and Roewood Lane again. A wonderful 6 mile walk.

Sadly, it's now being grossly mismanaged. A huge section has been destroyed for money. They claim it was done for safety due to ash die back, but have been caught felling 1000s of trees and dragging them out through the rest of the woodland to be sold as firewood in Chesterfield. 3 species of deer now no longer have their habitat. When challenged on this, 2 Notts WILDLIFE trust employees rolled their eyes. They don't care about wildlife!

Hello, this area is a few minutes walk from my home. I was wondering if there are any species of fish in there? I figured there could be, because of the herons and kingfishers, but they don't necessarily feed off of fish. Are there fish in there?

Thank you to all who made this video. I cannot tell you how much it means to me to finally know what some of the trees, floral and other botanical species, birds, butterflies, and insects are in Clifton Woods. I am a direct descendent of the Clifton family of Clifton, Nottingham. I also study woodland flowers, plants, botanicals, and trees as a hobby. I have wondered for the past couple of years what types of plants, trees, and birds are in the woods next to my family’s ancestral home. It is a true joy to find out. Again, my most heartfelt thank you!

I used to think that closed canopy was the default landscape of places like England or my home in New England. I don't believe that to be exactly the case anymore. Our assumption of closed canopy doesn't take into account the keystone megafauna we bumped off over the last 10 millenia. The default landscape in our climate was Frans Vera's kaleidoscope of grassland, scrub and grove with woodland in natural trap areas. It looked a lot like east Africa. Also it makes sense that over-grazing is a chronic matter not an acute one. It's not the number of sheep, it's the fact that they are allowed to camp out in same pasture day after day, constantly hammering the tastiest bits. Rebecca Hosking is "agri-wilding" 100 or so acres in south Devon with 1000 or so sheep that are kept tight and moving, mimicking the landscape of fear. In short we need both rewilding and permaculture to deal with our problems.

I ordered mine yesterday on ebay! George is fantastic. We are all so used to 'this green & pleasant (barren) land' that we forget it is supposed to be rainforest territory. So much land is still capable of being rewilded & I just want this rewilding revolution to start asap. It won't as long as the Tories have a say though...

firstly englsho is very right!!! well said, and secondly adults and youngsters have used this site for many years. children have fished on this site since i was a young lad. It has kept people like me and many others i imagine , out of trouble unlike many of the youth in retford today, where there is a big problems with drug and alcohol. Instead of providing a place for our future generations to create positive memories and provided an alternative to the typical recreational activities that retford youth are participating in theses days, they are removing young lads and also others like myself, so that the few bird watchers , many not local to reford can have it all to themselves.. NO wonder our country is going to shit, people only care about protecting ones own priorities and will walk all over the normal man to get it!!! (just like our government is doing )!!! to re-literature Many of the people that i see fishing theses lakes are young lads that have very little money but a passion for SOMTHING , theses lads are keeping there selfs out of trouble in a world that is doing to pot, but instead of supporting future generations by allowing youngsters to enjoy nature and the outdoors , you are saying go and do drugs and alcohol. Finally yes there are other lakes that people can fish legally but they are horrible little puddles surrounded by cars train lines and are so unnatural, over stocked and un challanging that it could be likened to a bird watcher going to aviary to veiw caged animals. We want nature and love nature just like you !
