What's your favourite EDO? Personally I like 31 Edo for the very well aproximated major third, minor second and obviously the harmonic seventh(7/4)
big fan of 22edo, i've successfully written songs in that tuning more than any other. I like that is has a lot of intervals completely alien to what we have in 12 while still contains familiar diatonic structures in it. Not really a fan of 31, not sure why, i just don't find the sound of it to be very pleasant though I haven't written anything decent in it myself yet. 26 is also pretty cool, check out my most recent track breakdown on my song 'bleak' if you wanna hear me rant a bit about 26tet theory
finally getting to watch this, interesting, it really seems like just a shepherds rhythm
Love that foley idea with consolidating a bunch of samples.
In analog circuitry, a oscillator is essentially a filter that has just become unstable enough that the gain of the quality factor has overloaded the feedback path so much that it over takes what ever the filter input signal was.
Another banger
Very dope
Thank you, i did squelch with serum, but used the drag n drop method to create one shotes. (hoover over the serum logo, to export a one shot.) but this is way more efficient. Squelches take ages - and you just showed a very workable method for controlled randomness. - sick!

Watching you work is so frustrating. I suck at producing lol
you may be the producer with the most unreasonable bass lines world wide
yooo check out the osmose cam
formant is sometimes just used to mean spectral balance i think. like where the emphasis lies. eg tbt speccraft calls its spectral profile restoration thing formant. i think sometimes formant is also related to grain size in warping algorithms for that reason?
Would be really cool if you could do a video talking about mid leads Not basses but more melodic sine elements around 1-3kHz like this track has and a lot of tipper tracks have
Love this track though I would like to see you live are you in Seattle some time soon?
Also, i loved your introduction to sound design video. TH-cam is really lacking in advanced production content aside from @sseb so keep it up All these tutorials try to sell you wavetable packs and ableton racks when that's not what is important, the construction and theory behind those is what's important
Also also do you know how to send external midi to the osmose?
@@morehart505 I'm very new to using hardware synths and the osmose, so dunno that one unfortunately. I don't tour or play shows outside of my immediate local area by San Francisco atm. Hopefully that can change soon but i suck at marketing myself for shows The mid lead sound you're talking about in the track in the beginning of the video im guessing - you basically want a lot of filter movement via phasers or eq automation, and then glitching by transposing on different warp modes. The lead in this track i believe is just a synth arpeggiating with random LFOs controlling the timbre, and then its being stretched and warped at a higher octave.
I love ittt 🪄🪄🪐
Very cool!
sick! nice timbres, i especially like the plucky synths
I made a track using the eBay website. I know that sound weird but you're only limited by your imagination.
Actually that swap delay phase thing you did is genius, maybe play with having less poles (like 3 instead of 8) to make it more apparent
If u don't I will (eventually figure it out in FL)
its effectively 4 bands that are panning left and right. Some of the bands will go really high and low in the frequency spectrum at a given momejnt and become inaudible, so usually you can hear 2-3 bands at a time. it creates a formant-y sound that I love, I use it on every project.
Awesome track and informative breakdown!
niice keep going bro
That is exactly the kind of weird shit of processing you can do in Ableton that makes me love this daw ! This is really clever, thanks !
super interesting stuff

_This is very well done pailiaq. It has like an aquaflow to it that is very relaxing. Good job my friend._
breakdowns are always gold, so much to gather and compare
sickkkk
Yo! thanks for sharing this
Can confirm, its the best.
Bro this is cool
I have an osmose too! Its cool i want to start playing it more into tracks Any advice on sending midi and mpe information to the osmose via usb / recording the results live?
I'm brand new to it as I've just gotten mine today, just been exploring the default presets in the built in engine so I cant really help you there im afraid. I got it to work with operator within ableton pretty easily though just by taking a look at the ableton setup on the continuum website. expressivee.happyfox.com/kb/article/265-setting-up-osmose-in-ableton-live/
got a decent thing goin at 2:32:30
A lot of work on that track, sounds very unique, congrats!! 💯👏🏻👏🏻
Hey I just bougth your Ableton Rack and it somehow doesnt work properly. Maybe its Ableton 12 or something on my pc. When loading the Rack, I get several Errors from M4l live.object: Live API is not initialized, use live.thisdevice to determine when initialization is complete live.remote~: inlet: bang: wrong message id live.object: set id: invalid id live.object: get: no valid object set And these get repeated several Times. the rack appears to work, though I find it hard to tell if the binaural effects do properly work. Also the XYZMap tends to jump around if I use the map or the potis to tune stuff. For example if I move Z, Y jumps to the previous location. Im glad about any help :)
@@FraenkFokken hey, if you add me on discord and I’ll be happy to investigate this closer. Should just be ‘pailiaq’
this such a vibe and so well produced
just less bad not more good all music bad bad no good least
missed the stream, but the title messed me up
The way you rush the start after having to redo the 25 minutes of teaching is sending me ahaha I can FEEL the frustration Also the light of day dimming ahha
this is so wild. thank you. almost was able to follow it and build the rack but for some reason when i mapped the course and set it to 50% it doesnt go to zero?so i cant figure out how to set it to where it goes back to the home note when the kick hits. still learned alot and will try again when my brain doesnt hurt hahaha
you want either the 'max' or 'min' part of the multimap to be set to 50%, and for your envelope follower thats mapped to the kick to go to the corresponding 100% (max) or 0%(min) good job on following through the video. brain hurting is good, make brain stronger
this is fuckin incredible
sick stream, watched about half of this so far. i really enjoy your observation that 22 and 26 are double 11 and 13, maybe i heard this before, but the significance of this as they border 12edo hadn't really dawned on me. also the experiment you describe with the digeridoo is fascinating, i'm curious how common it is for wind players sing harmonically related notes into their instrument to modify the timbre around 50:00 you mention that the piano roll is limited in range for 26edo. this is certainly a problem. fortunately, there are several workarounds, and they are most convenient in a daw. if you've narrowed down your MOS and are unlikely to use many key changes or edostep passing tones, you can export a scala file that only includes the notes of your MOS. if it's a 7 note MOS, you end up with too much range, rather than too little. it can be any number of notes, of course. alternatively, you can run multiple instances of your synth, set to different ranges. you can mix them in the same bus. this is a common solution to playing on lumatone, which allows you to route midi one channel per octave. one other thing (sorry for the long comment) -- i do highly recommend getting MTS-ESP. it is free, and you can control it using either wilsonic or surgeXT (both are also free). you would avoid all the frustration of tuning inside of pigments, and it automatically tunes all your MTS-ESP compatible synths together. while i'm not sure, i think ableton might actually be MTS-ESP compatible as well. you might try turning on MTS-ESP compatibility in pigments and see if it conforms to ableton's tuning
Cool stream. Even though we are indeed cooked
Why distinguish between microtonal and Western music? For instance Norwegian folk music is traditionally full of microtonality. Anyway, I'm not far into this video yet but cheers.
I think when you are still getting into it, then it is a shortcut in your thinking, ie Western = equal temperement and Microtonal is associated with other cultures etc. Obviously it is a massive academic subject. Maybe he will do Norwegian folk music on the next video, I know I love making it in Ableton.
Nice !
rift is a fancy saturator, yeah. it has a cool filter and a tunable delay and nice keytracking and such but at its core its a waveshaper
love your vids
cool stuff
Perhaps if one cannot explain something in short, one does not adequately understand it and cannot teach effectively.
Yo this was so different and I really enjoyed watching it
Yes - the live 12.1 changes the saturator settings - I am SURE of it :(
- I should test that actually (and will do) first thing tomorrow....
