Predator 224 cc Engine swap on Troy Bilt Snowblower
Troy Bilt 26” snowblower gets a new Predator 224cc engine from Harbor Freight.
This video will walk you though a Predator installation on almost any newer snowblower
(Troy Bilt, Craftsman, MTD, Yard Machines, etc…)
If the links below don’t work feel free to copy and paste them in your browser. I’m no professional TH-camr so the camera work is not great but this should help you get the job done. Good luck

I bought one brand new last winter, do everything you’ve done in the video (similar to any small engine) and it is just a hassle to start. I have never got it to pull start, only the button with it plugged in
If you turned the pulley 16:00 around on the inside it would not need a spacer 😊
Mind blown 🤯 lol, I’ll definitely be doing that next time
were you able to reinstall the belt cover?
Yes. It went back on no problem at all
If you followed all of the steps in this video and it still won’t start, you can try spraying some starter fluid underneath where the carburetor is. Usually just a two second burst of starter fluid will be enough to get it going. Just follow the same procedure as I’ve laid out in this videoand spray the starter fluid underneath. If that doesn’t work, you might need to have the carburetor cleaned or replaced.
Mine won't start and I've pulled that stupid thing a hundred times. It's the first time for this winter but still. I'm pretty disappointed. I only primed it a few times.
Did u try an change the spark plug?, had same problem change the plug, n fired right up
You did awesome putting this video together!
The fact that you only paid $200 for the snowblower, explains why the engine won't start.
Ha! I buy a ton of snowblowers ranging in price from $100-400 and most of them run just fine after doing a carburetor cleaning. This was one machine out of 50 that required a new engine.
@@Dan_the_fisherman Oh...OK. I thought that might be the reason, because sometimes folks sell them for the parts, like cars.
Awesome
It made absolutely no sense to chop up two like new, working machines. I am opened mouth on this one... Someone has too much time and too much money to play with his toys....
Hahaha! 😂 I buy and sell these machines to make extra money. The 28” works much better with the 369. Ended up selling the 24” with the 254 for $300 more than I paid for it and I have a much better engine on my personal machine.
Amazing video. Congratulations on a successful engine swap. I have a new 28" Deluxe SHO which I have used now for several Maine snow storms. The 306 cc has been fine to snowblow a long driveway and make paths through my property for my dogs. I do think that the standard Deluxe model engine would have been underpowered for what I need..
I totally agree... that engine should automatically come with the 28 inch Deluxe model. They force people to buy the expensive Rapid Trak model just to get more horsepower. That's ridiculous.
Hi! Is the 254cc engine made in Vietnam?
No, China. It’s an LCT
If these engines came from China you shouldn’t switch engines because it’s not gonna be the right model serial number
@@Dan_the_fisherman Great! We are manufacturing this engine for US LCT! Our factory is located in Vietnam and is also named Vietnam Liquid Combustion Technology Joint Stock Company! Then the finished engine will be brought back to the United States! Currently we are producing 208cc, 254cc, 291cc, 306cc, 369cc, 414cc, 420cc models with many versions such as winter and summer! It's nice to see our motor assembly posted on your youtube!
Thanks for making this video! I can't wait to get some real snow so I can really let my new deluxe 28 SHO eat, it came with the 306cc which I think will work ok but I would much rather have the 369cc for when the end of the driveway is hard packed from the snow plow coming through. Let me know how that engine performs! I wonder what it would cost if I tried to buy a new 369cc engine??
It worked out really well in 24 inches of snow. Didn’t really struggle at all with the stuff the plow left behind and that was my goal. The 254cc was way underpowered for this machine but for the price I payed for the 28” I couldn’t pass it up. I ended up selling the Platinum 24” with the 254cc for more than I payed for it. You can buy a 369 on eBay for about $300, but you have to order $150 worth of parts to go with it and really do your homework matching up part numbers on the Ariens website to make it work. I’m the end it was easier to steal the engine and parts I needed off of a platinum model and make a bigger better 28” deluxe. In hindsight, I could have just switched out the buckets on the two machines and that would have been much easier. It was fun to do the engine swap and I’m happy with the finished product
I have the 306cc deluxe 28SHO. After five years of Minneapolis winters, it has yet to let me down. Last week I cleared my neighbor’s driveway. She hadn’t shoveled in 2 snow storms. Snow was about 3” higher than the bucket, wet, and packed down. Machine chewed through it no problem. I had never heard the engine load that hard, but it did it. Would I like a 420cc engine on it? Sure, but it’s really not necessary. The 254cc in my opinion is not enough for a 28” bucket.
@@fluxcapacitr121 I ended up shoehorning a Predator 459cc on my machine, haven’t got a chance to really test on it as we haven’t had much snow but power shouldn’t be a problem 😂 and 12v electric start is nice.
Update on how it's running thiz year?
Wow you have a lot of money, you must be a drug 💉 dealer.
Great job!
How long does the CO 2 last ? Direction don’t talk about predicted use
I usually replace it after 30-40 shots. There’s a difference after 30 shots or so. I like it to be at full power
$125 bucks.WTF (plus you can't use your own ammo. Well the site does say that they are selling them as fast as they can make them, good for them. I'd rather have a break barrel rifle that carried more mass / more velocity.
That is awesome!
I need one but it is 125$!!!!
Where do you get it?
www.bugasalt.com/products/shred-er-starter-kit
"Bigger game" i can't breathe 🤣🤣🤣
I’m glad someone appreciates my sarcasm 🤣
Can you leave it stored with the Co2 cartridge?
I do, not sure if you should or not. Didn’t see anything in the instructions that said it would cause damage to the components. I had read a comment on someone else’s post about not doing that. Years ago I used to have a Crossman pellet gun that was almost identical to the shred-er and left Co2 cartridges in it for months at a time. Never had an issue with it.
@@Dan_the_fisherman I’m with you! Has it held the seal pretty week and power band keeping it stored that way? I really want one but it’s always out of stock!
@@kylewestrom7849 yes, so far it’s held the seal well. I’m on my 3rd cartridge now. You get about 40-50 effective shots out of a cartridge. Definitely get one when it’s back in stock. I called them and had them take my information so when they were back in stock they actually called me and I ordered over the phone. Seems like they are releasing 500 at a time so that if there are any defects they don’t have to replace so many of them. Just my opinion.
@@Dan_the_fisherman thank you! I need to keep checking everyday… they sell out so fast
Looked at the instructions that came with the kit today and it does say that you are not supposed to leave the Co2 cylinder in the gun. Apparently I breezed over that part when I got the kit. Don’t care though, still leaving them in
