Making a 6-Pointed Shuriken Throwing Star
Wanted to use geometry to design this 6-pointed throwing star. Was fun and easy build.

I've only just started with knife making in the last 6 weeks. I've been watching way too many knife making videos so figured either try it or stop watching the videos. Ha. I had to move my car out of the garage to get this equipment in. Granted, I know I don't need all this to start knife making but if I can make it easier or better for myself(and the knife) then why not. Below is some of the e...

    I have the same WEN drill press and vise as yours. I really like them. That 2x72 is a dandy....I just have the Grizzly 2x42...cant afford one like yours. it is amazing how many tools one needs to make knives.

      Agree, there is a tool for everything now. It can get costly real quick. Ha. The other option is minimal tools and alot of hard work especially with hand sanding.

    On your new platen, how did you get such a clean 90 on the bend? Almost looks square from the camera angle.

      Haha, good question. I actually have a neighbor that works at a place that can bend 1/4" thick metal 90 degrees. He did that for me. I was going to do in my vise, but his way was a no brainer.

    Hey Bray, Did you cut the upgraded baseplate by hand or is it done with CNC? I just got one of these Rikons and your mods are the best I've seen.

    • @brayjones6242
      @brayjones6242 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cut it by hand(portaband saw), then used the 1x30 to grind the edges. Just used the existing base plate as template. Easy to do, just aluminum clogs up everything when cutting. Ha.

    What kind of light are you using on your ameribrade? Nice use of space:)

    • @brayjones6242
      @brayjones6242 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. The light is good for spot lighting on the work. I added overhead lighting in general to help. The only issue I've found with the light mounted in that position is when I turn the grinder 90% on its side the light doesn't shine down on top, but now it's on the left side of the grinder. So I get some shadows on the right side. Here is the link to the light. a.co/d/fI7HU2k

    Hey Bray, do you recommend the Rikon 1/30 for getting started knife making? Also what about the wen drill press?

    • @brayjones6242
      @brayjones6242 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Rikon 1x30 is good to try out knife making to see if you want to continue. I used it for a few months but burned the black plastic piece on the side that covers the belt. I was grinding metal and dipping in water to cool it off. What I didn't realized was the hot sparks and metal was accumulating in the black housing and I saw smoke coming from it. By the time I realized it and stopped everything part of the plastic had melted including one of the plastic wheel. I bought a replacement plastic wheel and cut whole in bottom of plastic cover so sparks could exit. Some people just remove it. I moved up to 2x72 and now the 1x30 sits on the floor unused. May repurpose it for something or use the disc grinder on it. The Wen drill press is great. Nothing bad to say about it. I did install a keyless drill chuck. I'm not sure it's exactly trued up, but run out is very minimal. I think I just need to reseat it. Love the speed control with the lever.

      @@brayjones6242 Thank you. Where did you drill the whole in the plastic?

    • @brayjones6242
      @brayjones6242 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wish I could show you a picture, but I took out about two inches of the plastic right below the bottom wheel. That way the sparks fly down and out also.
