It was a useful lesson, Ms. Joanna. I hope you show more episodes on TH-cam or even Instagram
Is this method effective against an enemy who carries a weapon, such as a knife?
Nothing is really very effective for a small lady against a bigger opponent who carries a knife except for running... This defence is only for someone who has trained to a high level of grappling, I never teach this to general public as it's highly unrealistic for them to do this type of movement.
I'm sorry if my comment on the video upset you @@flowwithjo2024
@@YakoubDachi Not at all, I'm just responding what is realistic, as I see more and more videos circling around the internet showing quite the impossible :)
@@flowwithjo2024thank you
CIAO ♥️👍💪💋💪💋💋👍
Unrealistic scenario. You only wish that he will be some frail, man bun, limpy guy like that. If John Cena comes after you is that gonna help you?
One of the observations against smaller, weaker but technically more skilled BJJ players was that having stronger arms and hands I could routinely break their grip by brute force. Without the grip a BJJ hold quickly falls apart. Their standard response in this situation is to quickly transition to another hold. But since BJJ holds generally rely on grip strength, again, the next hold also gets removed by brute force by attacking the grip. For example, the triangle choke hold relies on arm dominance to either create an armbar or a choke. But by being much stronger, I could mostly not only remove the grip on my hand, but turn it around, thereby creating a danger for the opponent to have her wrist or arm snapped from within the triangle hold. This often led them to basically leave my arm alone and I could then use both arms to easily remove the leg hold on my neck and escape. I always felt my upper body strength advantage gave me an easy way out of these complicated holds. Of course BJJ players hate to see that because they come from a culture where they are told that technique can beat raw strength and they are encouraged to use technique to escape holds, not brute force. Well, I could show them otherwise. Of course it helps knowing a bit about the mechanics of their technique, but once you do, being physically stronger gets you a long way.
You have a point but you couldn't have written it shorter.
Hi, I agree with strength advantage - for sure it plays a key role. However, I disagree with the statement that a choke solely relies on arm strength, it is not correct. Triangle chokes with legs rely on leg power and angle of how legs are positioned, and head and arm choke and rear naked choke (while executed with arms) don't just rely on arm strength, there is involvement of lats (when squeezing the choke from behind) and body weight (when executing the head and arm) and when positioned correctly, it is extremely difficult to escape. When rear naked choke is on, it is ON. Nobody in the street will go into grip fight, is not a BJJ tournament. It will either be a strike, or a hold (from which the only viable escape for a woman against a man would be to strike, as you mentioned they will be overpowered by strength so the usual bear hug escape techniques won't work)...
I wonder how many people she has put to sleep???
Dries it stretch muscles?

Have u ever put someone to sleep with that
🙇🏻♂️💪🏻
Wow this is cool, how to do this? Can I apply any lessons for this?
The lesson should be - sign up to a jiu jitsu school :) You can learn all those moves there.
@@flowwithjo2024 ohh okay but it is possible to learn through internet?
@@louisthemates999 Please abstain from learning these types of techniques from over the internet. You will need a jiu jitsu coach not just to explain the mechanics, but you would need to train on various training partners. This will ensure safety and understanding of the amount of force necessary to execute the move without putting the other person at risk.
@@flowwithjo2024 Okayy Suree, I will look for a Jiu jitsu school and I assume u are a coach right ?
@@louisthemates999 Great, good luck! Yes, I'm a coach.
It is possible to kill someone in this way?
Yes if you hold the choke for too long.
@@flowwithjo2024 that must be dangerous it is hard to do this ?
@@woodyanderson9466 Depends if you have been trained to do it or not. I only teach this to jiu jitsu practitioners, or grapplers in general. It has self-defence applications (hence the video) but you really want to understand leverage and the amount of applied pressure required to do it in a safe way.
@@flowwithjo2024 sorry I don’t understand what you mean by amount of hold and pressure?
@@woodyanderson9466 You need to feel the other person's body in order to determine when to let go - if you put too much pressure for too long, the person can die. If you don't put enough pressure, they may escape. In order to understand how each person reacts (depending on the built and technical knowledge of escapes) you should align your technique/amount of pressure to their reactions. You need to be skilled at this, otherwise this move can turn out to be fatal. Does this make more sense?
Nice 👍 will try later
this seems like a technique vs untrained people, no? any grappler worth their salt would address your underhook with a whizzer and this would no longer work
Hi, but of course this is a variation - and it's from my Beginner's Course, hence the techniques shown address both reactions for untrained, and trained opponents. The first variation is always the back, and when the whizzer is there, then we discuss other variables :) Greetings!
@@flowwithjo2024 ah gotcha. thank you
Sorry, no offense but this is complete rubbish. You call your content "Self defense" and you show a technique that is meant to be used in a safe environment such as a ring at UFC or similar. An attacker on the street will NEVER act like your partner in the video and you will never ever have the confidence to perform something like this if you are in a situation were your life may be in jeopardy. From what you show us here i can tell that you have never-ever been in a real self defense situation and i also doubt your ability when it comes to combat sports situations. I do not judge you as a person but definetly judge what you post here and what you post here may lead Girls/women to believe in this kind of techniques and get them into serious problems if they get attacked...
LOL
seeing all these great tutorials I'm wondering if you can do a tutorial on the gogoplata as it is a move ive seen on the internet a lot recently
This was a very straight to point detailed video, can you do a demonstration of the gogoplata next?
Thanks for a good tutorial 😍 Would love to see a tutorial about guillotine choke (standing and in mount) and RNC too :)
Nice. Cant wait to try it.
Good luck, let me know how you get on!
I just pulled this off 20 min ago for the first time ever ❤
That’s amazing - well done! 😃👌🏽
Can you do a rear naked choke video
The problem is that a large percentage of the world's population hates physical activity: they are obese or overweight; Added to that, they have serious problems with some type of addiction and/or phobia. Therefore, they would be incapable of carrying out any of these movements or of having attentive and determined reactions. People need to love and care for themselves instead of giving in to abandonment.
i agree with you
almost put him to sleep
Yes, that is also possible if the choke is on for a few seconds, it constricts the blood flow to the brain.
The only thing is..one should know how to properly lock the legs..
@@toserveof course, that’s why Jiu jitsu and Judo are so good for ground attacks 🥋
@@flowwithjo2024 yes and it can be tricky in real life situation where the concept of tapping is not there
Concept of tapping in a rape case scenario? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Can you expand please @@toserve

Thanks for this great and detailed tutorial! Really nice to see how you can defend yourself with jiujitsu in real situations!
Thank you for your comment, I am glad you enjoyed the video - more to come! :)
Great vid, can you do a body triangle escape tutorial?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the content. I will put your request on the list of videos to upload.
I mean wouldn't that actually be 6 points of contact? Each foot=2 Each elbow=2 Each hand=2
Yes, absolutely if you count the individual limbs. I was referring to the two primary frames (legs and hands).
Great video! I prefer to turn my head to the side when doing front breakfall just in case..........
Thanks a lot! And completely understandable why you'd want to do that :)
I want to restle with you, madam
nice , thank you for the video , can you do mounted triangle tutorial
Thanks a lot, I will take this technique into consideration for the next tutorials!
That little detail of the outward rotation is what I've been missing. Thanks, short and to the point!
Thank you for the video. Very good info, cheers.
Thanks a lot. Glad to hear it's helpful :)
Thanks a lot! Don't forget to lift your hips ups to off-base your partner's foot before you torque :)
Something I’d like to ask also - on a BJJ channel that suddenly trended (realisebjjlife) the creator claims in bjj when they submit someone/get submitted they laugh as it ‘lowers stress on the sympathatic nervous system’. I’m guessing it de escalates the feeli NC a of combat because it’s seeing a smile? In your experience do you think this makes sense? Or do you get used to the feeling of being submitted and know it’s safe so it’s ok?
I love your content,🥋 very simple and weel explained. Btw do you have more content on Instagram?
Thanks a lot for your feedback, much appreciated! I share videos on IG @joanna_jiujitsu Cheers!
can you teach how to do mounted triangle
I was rolling with my friend and got my back taken, ended up in a position very similiar to 1:34 . I ended up arm-barring their open right arm by pulling it down against my own head and neck . It worked but we are both white belts. Is this submission practical or did he miss an easy counter?
I didn't do a lot of rolling because I was worried about getting injured . But I have respect for anyone that trains grappling, a lot of respect

Oss and thank you
You are a great teacher.
Thank you, appreciate your comment :)
Are there some submissions you could recommend that you can force the submission but don’t need to be as concerned you will hurt your opponent? I can’t remember if Khabib had said kimura you can hurt your opponent as it can be quickly done but is harder to control. Are there ones you’d recommend if you wanted to help unsure your sparring partner/opponents safety (ie competitive but not so competitive you’re willing to hurt them) Ps- I asked a question on a previous video about if you could use your feet to hook an opponent to help set up an arm bar. Then I randomly saw a video and Gillian Anderson (the red headed fighter in UFC) did that exact thing I was wondering! Can’t remember the opponent though. I was surprised I hadn’t seen this before.
Hi, thanks for your question! In principle, every submission hold you apply could potentially be risky, depending on the level of control you can exert and also - how your partner is reacting. I would say that kimura/americana locks are applied with more caution from the top position (including mount, side control, and half guard top). When opponent is trapped underneath you, there is less movement and hence more control - you are likely to apply it with more caution and more patiently than from other positions. Hope that helps!
thanks 👍
this shit never works if he has any experience in guarding lmao
Hey, just a quick question as I couldn’t find an armbar tutorial. When you apply an armbar are you trying to squeeze the arm between your thighs tightly so you can put pressure on the elbow? Or does it come from a bridging action by lifting your hips? Also - when the opponent is flattened out is that because you’re stretching your legs across them? Are your feet important in potentially setting it up, ie if you were at a slightly funny angle you could hook their face/neck with your foot to either set them up in a better position or help you control them until your angle is better? Is there ever a time your feet would be used to control them like you use your foot to stop them defending a bow and arrow choke?
Will there be another episode next week?
